  • The Indian Gaur is the largest bovidae species in the world, with males weighing upto 1,500kg. Due to this massive size, the gaur does not have many natural predators. There have only been limited observations of tigers hutning down a healthy adult gaur.
The gaur is disturbuted across the moist decidious and evergreen forests of south and south east Asia. In India, specifically, the species is best seen in the Western Ghats, with populations also recovering in the Central Indian Tiger Landscape. In south-east Asia, the species is heavily threatened by poaching for the illegal wildlife trade.
