The southern Church of God was teaching that you can’t go to heaven a drunk or a sinner of any kind! So this is why old southern people clean up before they die just like my dad he quit drinking after 40 years of drinking dad just stopped and sobered up to die.

It wasn’t to late he gave us years of endless perfection.
Good things don’t last forever ,
He lived up into his 80s what more do you want he seen a lot and lived life to it’s fullest .
He just didn’t bend to all the straight boring rules of the perfect life of being passive and bow down too a
    Boring life .
    RIP George
No one will ever fill your shoes
And you did it your way
Just the type of life that lots of people would copy if they had the time or money .
Thanks for a lot of years of endless treasures

Jones was not a passenger in the 1999 accident. He was the only one in the SUV, and was driving. He had been drinking yes, and was fumbling with the tape deck listening to a rough cut of a song he was working on for his new album. He also was not thrown from the vehicle- it took them hours to remove him from the vehicle. Jones faded in and out of consciousness the entire time the rescuers were attempting to remove him from the vehicle. When he was finally removed, they took him to Emergency surgery and he went into a coma. It wasn't known if he was going to live or die. Your assumption that his liver was destroyed couldn't be further from the truth- his liver was badly damaged in that accident, and yet it healed itself. The injury could have been fatal, but the mans liver was so strong that it healed. Following that accident, the highway patrol hoisted Jones battered vehicle into the air like a billboard with a sign that said "DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE". George's death had nothing to do with his liver, heart or stomach as you mention here. It was all respiratory. Several bouts with pneumonia in his later years had left his lungs scared and made it difficult for him to breath... smoking probably played a part, BUT, the man was 81 years old! He had lived harder than even Hank Williams, and that lifestyle took Hank away from us at the age of 29- If anything Jones must have had the constitution of an Ox to have lived that long after abusing his body in such an epic manner. The fact that this man could still walk and talk, with his memory intact after all of that is medically impossible some would say, but George truly did live to tell it all! In spite of everything, Jones lived a full life. Nobody's body is designed to last forever. Furthermore, it is NEVER too late to repair your life and stay sober. I actually met George Jones on multiple occasions, and regardless of everything that you hear, he was a kind and decent man. A great guy. The man faced his demons and won.

What he did in his life didn’t make him less of a great singer and musician, in fact it was those hard and painful years that he put into every song he ever sang. We all live our lives the way we do for a number of different reasons, however, after his last accident, he did give up drinking and managed to have a few sober years to continue what he loved to do. He even began singing with Tammy again and you could see the spark of happiness in his eyes every time, life turned out ok for him and he died while still doing what he loved the most, singing and writing songs.

    My stepdad knew Jones personally.
I used to laugh at the crazy stories about him.

I grew up in the 60/70’s my parents and I were huge fans. We actually got to attend a no show Jones concert in I beleave Chattanoga TN. We lived in Southern Maryland. All the way there we sang his songs. We spent like 4 or 5 days down South. I remember dad going throuh hell to get the tickets, I beleave my Aunt worked in a department store in that you could buy tickets from. We had good seats, but we did not see anything that night. Sure was a long road home. Dad was a cop, Yes,think of Andy, I remember Dad saying let him come throuhn here I’ll pull his butt over and give him a stern lecture about responsibilities, and then ask for an autograph.😊 I got my revenge a few years ago, I can play a guitar, but dont ask me to sing, a no show from George would have be better. I baught a CF Martin George Jones D 42. George is buried in Nashville (if youve not paid respects at his grave, I suggest you do) Nancy sent him out in style, huge head stone, and its there are a couple of marble benches in side this low finced in grave site. (Johnny Pay Check is buried a few feet away from Georges feet) I took my guitar, Georges song book and proceeded to make a possum yell, after about an hour of sining and playing to George, I walkend over, sat on the ground and played Johnny Old Violen. This guy walked up behind me, put his hand on my shoulder, scared the XXXXX out of me, I looked at him, he said did I startle you? Did you, I thought Georges came out of the grave to give me singing lessons. OMG didd he scare me.

@Facts Verse I liked George Jones before he started singing gospel songs, I was drinking like I had everything under control I never done any drugs .one day as soon as I was finished my work for the day I went to the bar and started drinking as usual but that day was different on my way home I called my wife and I told her I stopped drinking that was in 2003 I wished I would have checked the date and I haven't drank since, not me but GOD helped me . I said all that to say I like gospel music. You know our world as we know it isn't going to last much longer, GOD isn't going to let it keep on like it is .When I was in school I was out of high school before I heard of anyone being shot now it's many every day and night .

I know the series was based on Georgette’s book, she even had a small part in the last episode. Georgette was at the wedding, she should know. Thanks
