New comment on an old video. I was taking this off the old game shelf but I'd forgotten how to play...your video refreshed my memory. Just wanted to say thanks...not only do your videos inform my purchases, they bring me back up to speed on games I haven't played in a while.
Excellent video, as always, Rodney. I will promote the game at Essen Game Fair in the next few days, and this was an immense help in clarifying a few questions regarding the gameplay I still had after the reading the rules. Thank you very much, and keep up the good work. :-)
Well done Rodney!!! Excellent tutorial.I taught some people the game this past weekend and they really liked it, Now I can just send new players here!!!
Thanks Rodney, once again another amazing video and a game i can't wait to try :) Looking forward to the play through and seeing you and lucky Luke battle to save the colony..Good luck :)
Thanks for the tutorial. A couple of questions came up while playing. 1. Can you replace existing troops on the beginning of your next turn? 2. Does enemy abilities stack? (Example: having 2 Shieldswarm can reduce 2 damage) 3. Can you activate item abilities after a first the first attack? (Example: Item armor item gives 2 hp or lets you discard it to heal for 1. If the first attack attempt does not kill him can I discard the armor item to heal another troop before going on the second attack.)
Hey Kong, I shot this tutorial long enough ago, that I don't have a good memory of the details, and don't have my copy any longer. I'd suggest checking the rules forum for the game on BoardGameGeek or the publishers website. I hope you can find your answer there - have fun playing!
Love your tutorials and keep up the great work. I use the bulk of your videos to help my gaming group. We determine what we are playing and I send out videos for them to study for the week. I seen you mention a prom card was wondering if you still had any and who or how I donate to receive 1, or if you still have any available. TyI
So glad you're enjoying the videos Jason - yes, you can still pick up the Xenoshyft promo (and others), here: www.podpledge.com/project/382/The-Watch-It-Played-s-Promo-Store/shop
So much better than reading rules! Espacially if you plan to buy the game directly before game night and won't have time too ^^ One quick question to clarify: when I deploy equipment or troops to other players lanes, does that player keep the card and shuffle it into his or her discard pile? Thanks!
+Sarah Langer You've got it Sarah, once a card enters another players lane, it becomes theirs and gets shuffled int their pile. The game is very co-operative that way. Thanks so much for the kind words about the videos!
A great video as usual Rodney. i have a question regarding instants like Medpac, etc. Do they go into the discard pile of the person's lane you played it on or the discard pile of the person who play the card. I'm ok with things like units and equipment but could find anything about instants.
Amazing video as always ! I got the game today and had fun playing it even though we made a lot of mistakes. I read in the rule book that "everyone allow one pre-combat action" after the reveal phase, does this mean everyone only allow to play one instant or one troop's ability ? Also at which phase can "drop ship" be played ?
Thai Son Trinh Dinh Glad you enjoyed the video :) I believe you found that rule written on the back of the rule book, and it is not well worded. It means each players gets one final chance to play any (and as many) cards they wish before combat happens. Drop Ships are played during the deployment phase.
I suppose it's unlikely, but what happens when item stack is deplated and there is not item placeholder card left? Does used ones are reshufled or players continue playing with less item stacks to buy from?
In the first battle you had the extra weapon on the Ranger. The text on this card said "You may have the equipped troop deal it's damage before enemies attack." Doesn't this mean the Ranger wouldn't get the second wound-token, because he killed the Leech before it could attack again? Or am I understanding the effect wrong?
Tobias Zoellner The wording is "You 'may' have the equipped troop deal its damage before enemies attack. 'If' this is done, discard this card at the end of combat". So, it's not automatic, you have to choose to use that effect, and then if you do, you lose the equipped item. In the instructional video example, I just didn't choose to use it.
Thank you for clearing this up! I just watched the first Episode of the Playthrough and that's where I realized, what I had understood wrong... What I forgot to say in my first comment: Really awesome Instructional you made there. I love, how well you script your videos so that it's easy to follow, even if I don't have the game before me. :)
You probably answered this, but in your combat example of the Leech Vs the Ranger, if they had killed each other at the same time would the Leech immediately get that +2 power and survive, or would the resolution kill it before it could be buffed? Thanks
This game looks like LOADS of fun. I just have one question: Instant cards used as assists (i.e. the H-E grenade) are returned to the hand of the one that played it. Do deployed troops and equipment given to other players go to the receiver's discard pile (effectively allowing players to "gift" items or troops they otherwise may not have been able to afford at that time?) I just wasn't sure if there was a difference in these rules based on the persistence of "lane cards" and "instant cards".
Nick Huston And yes, that is what I meant. By hand, I was meaning "back into their hands" as in the phrasing for possession. Simple slip. My apologies.
was confused by the look of the game. I had to go to the old video of you and Tom Vassal playing the game at CMON Convention to realize that it is the same game, just set up differently. All good now.
Great video, am seriously looking forward to this game. A quick question about the Division cards, do their abilities stack? I noticed that the Command Center let's you reduce the cost of an item by 1, can you use that and the Weapons Research ability to reduce a gun by 1 to reduce a gun by 2 to a minimum of 1?
+Watch It Played One follow up question for these reduced cards. Does the discount apply to first card in the stack or does it apply for all the card in that stack? If I reduce a Spark Jumper with my Weapon Research ability, will this be applied to every Spark Jumper in the stack or just the one on top? Could other players purchase that card with the reduced cost?
we've played two 2-player games so far. the first time we played, we won handily and thought it was dumb that we couldn't affect the difficulty, because clearly it wasn't challenging enough. An hour later we played again and had a crushing defeat in round 5. my friend faced the wave 1 boss with two militia and a medbot, so those troops were burned, and the base took a ton of damage. I think we went into round 4 with 12 base health, and barely made it through. we love this game. the box insert is awful, but we don't talk about that.
My only concern is that the War (card game) like mechanic of blindly placing units down and not knowing what you are going against makes this game too much of an auto pilot/random guessing game, as in it basically plays itself and winning or losing is mostly based on luck. Is that reality or does this game have true strategy? Would love some in-depth responses on this! Thanks ...Also wow those cards seem to have a lot of text...how badly does that slow down the game if at all?
Awesome video as always! Question: Do you think that it brings enough of a challenge for the players? I've been on the fence about this game and just can't decide (we have played many deck builders and I am skeptical if my group is ready for another but the fact that this is co-op gives it a chance if it's challenging enough).
It's not actually a deckbuilder. You only draw maximum nine times from your deck and every card you buy goes into your hand. So it is really different from deckbuilders. It's more of a tactical card game with some deckbuilder elements.
@@WatchItPlayed yeah, I ended up buying it as a gift for my brother-in-law. We had an absolute blast with it. We don't play it much anymore because he moved away but it was quite the challenge! Thanks for the recommendation and the teach. Made the game all the better.
If you're looking for a play through with more players, check out the video of Rodney playing this with Tom Vasel and Steve Avery. Board Game Replay also did a four player full play through.
Hi I just wanted to ask: 1. When enemy says do something when enemy dies and you have to burn one of your troops, is the burn counting as death for the troop ? 2. How did you know that the troops do not heal after the combat,I couldn't find anything in the Rulebook. 3. Also if troops aren't healed here's an example: Militia has 1 hp by default and lets say the last bug is revealed, in response i boost him with +1 power and +1 hp, after the battle has ended the bug is dead and the militia has 1 dmg on him. The stim looses the effect at the end of the round so does my militia die cuz he has 1hp without the stim and 1 dmg on him? Thank you in advance.
Brandon Heat Heya Brandon, let's see if we can get these cleared up. 1) Nope. 2) The way you know that they don't heal after combat, is because you don't find it mentioned in the rule book. Otherwise, they would have to tell you "soldiers heal between rounds", or something to that effect. Know what I mean? 3) Yep, he would die. You may also find this helpful: cmon.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/Xenoshyft-FAQ-Printer-Friendly.pdf
Tank you for clarifying this to me. I guess my logic was that after battle they heal in the base, then again they are technically on the field so yeah :)
Nick Huston I haven't looked into the KS add in stuff yet (which has rules for this). When we do our play through, I'll try to remember to go over that briefly at the start.

Marcin Krawczyński THis isn't covered as far as I know (I think, because it would be impossible).
I have a question, Can the card "Scout Drones" move troops between different player boards?
Sorry, away from the house (and my games), for a couple days. Not able to check on this currently.
In the first battle you had the extra weapon on the Ranger. The text on this card said "You may have the equipped troop deal it's damage before enemies attack."
