It feels like yesterday, the entire Internet made fun of Sonic's hideous original character design in the teaser trailer of the first movie. Now, the third film is becoming one of the most anticipated movies of the year with Shadow's introduction.
I’m glad this adaptation is cutting to the chase and having Sonic and co assist G.U.N. I never understood why they thought Sonic was shadow in adventure 2 and arrested Sonic for crimes shadow committed.

Jim was also open to return as Count Olaf in A Series of Unfortunate Events for Netflix. This is the same Jim who turned down $10 million dollars to star in The Mask 2 and 3 back in the late 90’s.
If they go there... I mean, the trailer seems to imply they will definitely go there... But you never know how explicit and dark they'd be willing to go.

Ok, so to give a bit more clarification about the game lore & Shadow's backstory: Gerald Robotnik was a researcher & scientist for GUN, and was tasked to develop various projects for GUN. At the same time, his granddaughter, Maria, had some kind of disease called NIDS that we don't fully understand but can deduce was neurological based. So he brings Maria onto this government space station called the ARK to try finding a cure for her, to which Project Shadow was born from. Shadow was created to be "the ultimate lifeform," where he was immune to all disease & is essentially immortal. However, the government either caught wind of Gerald's projects he kept hidden from them or simply wanted to keep people quiet, cause they sent GUN to the ARK to apprehend or wipe out everyone aboard. And as Shadow & Maria were trying to escape, Maria is gunned down by a soldier as she activates Shadow's escape pod & sent down to Earth. Causing him to become rageful against humanity & turn against them.
Let's not forget the other half of this story. Gerald received some extraterrestrial assistance for Project Shadow in the form of the Black Arms Alien Army, specifically their leader Black Doom. Shadow has some of Black Doom's DNA inside him. Gerald created Shadow to fight against the Black Arms once they eventually returned to Earth in an attempt to take it over. Oh, and Gerald is also Eggman Grandfather as well.

Here's a rundown for people confused on the animals the characters represent. Sonic, Shadow and Amy are Hedgehogs (Amy most likely isn't in this movie). Tails is a male fox, and I say male because a woman voices him traditionally so people often view him as Sonic's girlfriend when they don't know the lore. Knuckles is an Echidna. They're LIKE hedgehogs but weirder, and apparently highly toxic. Robotnik is a man. A fat, fat man. I only add that because from time to time the movies like to outright call him a robot when he isn't.
Speaking of egg man being referred to as a robot, wasn't he partly cybernetic back in the day? I hope they bring in the OG robotnik, the one that turns people into robots

Like the name itself, he was always Eggman in Japan, and America gave him Robotnik to sound more evil to audiences. Then the Dreamcast era and internet came and they just low key combined the names.

Yes actually. Because even if the movie isn’t the best, the fans will still be happy to have moments, and characters they like getting screen time. Like the Mario movie, that not good but tons of fanservice and everybody was happy with it

I feel like one of three things will happen in this movie: 1) Eggman helps the Sonic team defeat Shadow. 2) Eggman betrays the Sonic team and Shadow helps them defeat him. 3) Gerald Robotnik betrays everybody and the Sonic team, Eggman, and Shadow have to defeat him.
In sonic lore shadow is created to help cure Gerald robotnicks granddaughter. In the trailer that appears to be her on the other side of the glass and it seems like she dies in that rubble we see.
I mean at the end of his debut game he redeemed himself and following appearances have him as on the side of good, he just doesn't really like most of the cast

Jim Carrey must also like working with the makers of these films as well. I don't think he would've came back if he wasn't on good terms with the production crew. Having a good working environment on set makes a world of difference.
Ok so talking about Shadow’s past. According to the Sonic game lore Shadow was created by Gerald Robotnik who in the games is Dr. Eggman’s grandfather and Shadow was created as the ultimate life form. And the only reason why he was created was because Gerald’s grandaughter Maria who is Dr. Eggman’s cousin, had a disease that was incurable and Gerald Robotnik created Shadow through genetic mutation in order to help cure Maria from that disease. And throughout there time together Shadow & Maria formed a strong bond. Unfortunately, the government deemed Shadow a threat & the military organization GUN (Guardians of United Nations) were seizing the project involving Shadow being created and unfortunately throughout the raid Shadow tried to protect Maria but instead Maria protects Shadow by helping him escape from Space Colony ARK which is where Shadow was created & Maria sacrificed herself saving Shadow. And throughout that whole ordeal Shadow made a promise to Maria to protect the world & the humans because Shadow & Maria were both raised in space on the Space Colony ARK and Maria has always wanted to visit the planet Earth and wants to give a chance to be happy and at peace. And that’s the promise they both made to each other. Despite escaping Shadow has stayed in suspended animation for 50 years which leads to his debut into the Sonic franchise with the game Sonic Adventure 2. Throughout the franchise Shadow has been considered to be an antihero & while he has good intentions, he will do whatever it takes to achieve his goals, sometimes putting him at odds with Sonic. And Shadow is definitely one of my favorite anti hero characters of all time. And it’s a crazy coincidence because 4 years ago in the first movie we saw the couple watching Speed and now here we are 4 years later the star of Speed Keanu Reeves voicing Shadow The Hedgehog. I hope that this movie is as good as the previous ones or probably even better. Let’s see what happens. Oh and in the 2005 self titled Shadow The Hedgehog game while it’s not a good game it’s a very interesting one because it goes deeper into Shadow’s past and main threat in that game was somehow involved with Project Shadow. So yeah, let’s see what happens.
Sonic is like Goku or Quicksilver. Tails is Krillin or War Machine. Knuckles is like the Hulk, Piccolo or Roronoa Zoro from One Piece. Shadow is like The Punisher and Vegeta.
I'm so excited to see Sonic Adventure 2 adapted into a movie. I wonder how far they're going to go with it. I can see them bringing in Chaos from the first Sonic Adventure game as the big villain of the next movie. Just thinking about how the final boss battles from these games went, the scale of the final boss of the first one would work really well with the movie universe they've created. Metal Sonic can come in for Sonic 5 and 6 to finish the anthology. I never thought we'd go from Ugly Sonic to this, I'm here for it.
I gotta be real.. Keanu as Shadow is absolutley flawless casting. A bit of the valley-boy 2edgey cornyness he brings to the VO is perfect. I haven't seen any of these movies but just hearing him do his thing is nice. It works.
Also only 3 enemies become allies. Knuckles becomes a friend. Shadow becomes an anti-hero. Silver becomes a friend but you don't see him a whole lot. There's Blaze. But she was never a villain. Actually, neither was Knuckles. But Blaze specifically was more like a rival. Most of his friends are just friends.
My hope is that with essentially two Robotnik's on screen we get a silly evil version being Eggman, and an EVIL evil version being Gerald. In the games (at least according to Adventure 2), he is also driven mad due to you know who's death, and where Sonic is keeping Shadow on his toes, Gerald is festering on his hatred of the people who wronged him.
Fun fact about Maria's death. The anime had the soldier racked with guilt and orginally didnt want to shoot her. In the games, the gun agent tracked them down and shot her in the back with no hesitation.
It’s great to see the moviemakers giving Dr. Robotnik a redemption arc because everybody knows Jim Carrey is outspoken about gun control in the United States. This may be Jim Carrey’s final movie appearance.
I like Sonic lore so much. It's complex yet really simple. It's deep and deals with a lot of complex topics and issues, yet it's also cartoony and simple to explain. It's this contrast of what at first seems like just a silly guy doing silly things, but then when you learn why he's like that its like "woah, I didn't know it was so deep and meaningful".
It is a shame Jim Carey would be unlikely to come back for a fourth. A movie version of SA1 with the Chaos storyline would have been amazing Also to correct Martin, it's actually the opposite. Shadow DID have people he loved and they were all murdered
I love that Sonic Adventure 2 makes it's original impact all over again. Everyone on the internet is super excited to get this movie to gross a billion dollars, Jim Carrey ended his retirement for this movie and THE Keanu Reeves actually signed on to do a "real" animated movie role instead of the tenth iteration of John Wick or something.
I still think the "original design" the studio went with was one of the best marketing strategies I've seen in a while. I have a feeling it was a setup to get people to rally and united to see the film.
Sonic and Mario are all fine and dandy. But, really want to see a live-action Metroid movie. And, if at all possible, a feature length, traditional, 2D animated Legend of Zelda movie.
The less Tom the better. He only existed because they wanted to put Sonic in the real world and give Sonic someone to talk to as he adjusts to the real world Real reason anybody comes for these movies are for Sonic characters
To be fair, Jim Carrey’s comedy has always been consistent. He was never as lazy as Eddie Murphy was when he appeared in Imagine That and A Thousand Words.

The reason why Shadow only remembers the worst parts of his life is because Gerald Robotnik manipulated his memory.
Shadow is not able to be reasoned with like Knuckles. Shadow has a motivation to wipe out the entire world.
It’s going to take a lot to get through him

I’m so glad Jim Carrey came back to play Dr. Ivo Robotnik aka Dr Eggman again. He said he was going to retire, but he obviously loves playing Dr Eggman. Since this movie is based on Sonic Adventure 2, I can’t wait to see Sonic and Shadow go Super in the movie!😊👊🏾🔥💛🌟
Jim Carrey must also like working with the makers of these films as well. I don't think he would've came back if he wasn't on good terms with the production crew. Having a good working environment on set makes a world of difference.

Ok so talking about Shadow’s past. According to the Sonic game lore Shadow was created by Gerald Robotnik who in the games is Dr. Eggman’s grandfather and Shadow was created as the ultimate life form. And the only reason why he was created was because Gerald’s grandaughter Maria who is Dr. Eggman’s cousin, had a disease that was incurable and Gerald Robotnik created Shadow through genetic mutation in order to help cure Maria from that disease. And throughout there time together Shadow & Maria formed a strong bond. Unfortunately, the government deemed Shadow a threat & the military organization GUN (Guardians of United Nations) were seizing the project involving Shadow being created and unfortunately throughout the raid Shadow tried to protect Maria but instead Maria protects Shadow by helping him escape from Space Colony ARK which is where Shadow was created & Maria sacrificed herself saving Shadow. And throughout that whole ordeal Shadow made a promise to Maria to protect the world & the humans because Shadow & Maria were both raised in space on the Space Colony ARK and Maria has always wanted to visit the planet Earth and wants to give a chance to be happy and at peace. And that’s the promise they both made to each other. Despite escaping Shadow has stayed in suspended animation for 50 years which leads to his debut into the Sonic franchise with the game Sonic Adventure 2. Throughout the franchise Shadow has been considered to be an antihero & while he has good intentions, he will do whatever it takes to achieve his goals, sometimes putting him at odds with Sonic. And Shadow is definitely one of my favorite anti hero characters of all time. And it’s a crazy coincidence because 4 years ago in the first movie we saw the couple watching Speed and now here we are 4 years later the star of Speed Keanu Reeves voicing Shadow The Hedgehog. I hope that this movie is as good as the previous ones or probably even better. Let’s see what happens. Oh and in the 2005 self titled Shadow The Hedgehog game while it’s not a good game it’s a very interesting one because it goes deeper into Shadow’s past and main threat in that game was somehow involved with Project Shadow. So yeah, let’s see what happens.

I'm so excited to see Sonic Adventure 2 adapted into a movie. I wonder how far they're going to go with it. I can see them bringing in Chaos from the first Sonic Adventure game as the big villain of the next movie. Just thinking about how the final boss battles from these games went, the scale of the final boss of the first one would work really well with the movie universe they've created. Metal Sonic can come in for Sonic 5 and 6 to finish the anthology. I never thought we'd go from Ugly Sonic to this, I'm here for it.

Keanu as Shadow is absolutley flawless casting. A bit of the valley-boy 2edgey cornyness he brings to the VO is perfect. I haven't seen any of these movies but just hearing him do his thing is nice. It works.

Silver becomes a friend but you don't see him a whole lot.
There's Blaze. But she was never a villain. Actually, neither was Knuckles. But Blaze specifically was more like a rival.
Most of his friends are just friends.
My hope is that with essentially two Robotnik's on screen we get a silly evil version being Eggman, and an EVIL evil version being Gerald. In the games (at least according to Adventure 2), he is also driven mad due to you know who's death, and where Sonic is keeping Shadow on his toes, Gerald is festering on his hatred of the people who wronged him.

Fun fact about Maria's death. The anime had the soldier racked with guilt and orginally didnt want to shoot her. In the games, the gun agent tracked them down and shot her in the back with no hesitation.

I like Sonic lore so much. It's complex yet really simple. It's deep and deals with a lot of complex topics and issues, yet it's also cartoony and simple to explain. It's this contrast of what at first seems like just a silly guy doing silly things, but then when you learn why he's like that its like "woah, I didn't know it was so deep and meaningful".

Everyone on the internet is super excited to get this movie to gross a billion dollars, Jim Carrey ended his retirement for this movie and THE Keanu Reeves actually signed on to do a "real" animated movie role instead of the tenth iteration of John Wick or something.
