For some reason I find this song to be very uplifting. After a period of depression and frustration, when I feel the energy again I listen to this song. "The end of an era, one starts anew You know the devil, he lives in you" Which to me means you have it in you so don't give up or sth like that :)
This song really grew on me and is actually pretty addictive. Some of Opeth's newer hard rock songs didn't do much for me (i.e. Cusp of Eternity, The Devil's Orchard, etc), but when I hear stuff like this song, Moon Above, Sun Below, and Folklore, they seem to be succeeding very well with this style.
The first time I went to Stockholm alone when I was 15 I saw Mikael Åkerfeldt, too afraid to say hi I ran to the Scifi Bookstore, came back when I gathered my courage. And he was gone, I wish I would've just said hi. That way I might've kickstarted my love for Opeth sooner. Thank you for all the music guys, keep doing what you like and how you like it! Continious change is what I love about your music so dearly, which this video, so different from others, proves.
Recently a best friend I had for years, whom we were there for each other constantly, through things you couldn't imagine teenagers could go through, illness, loss of family and getting out of crime. We are both moving differently now, and I have realised this and will talk to him soon, you need to accept it before you both go on to the path to perdition, and go seperate paths instead. This song reflects that perfectly.
Being best friends doesn’t mean it’s only while you’re both on the same wavelength. Throughout life there’s a time to walk together and a time to part. If you both recognise this and are able to accept it and move on you’ll be fine, it doesn’t mean the end of the friendship.
Entertaining video. I love the last album, I love their old stuff (Morningrise, GR, SL etc.) and I love the new albums - Heritage and Pale Communion. I love everything Opeth related. :)
Progressive Progression, glad I've got Deliverance, Ghost Reveries, Still Life, etc, but secretly kinda hoped MA would go this way when the time was right (for a multitude of reasons) talent is talent and MA is a class act, no matter what he touches, just let him do what he does best, create incredible music... You're lucky we have him at all!
This song is a paradox, in that no one, not fans, not reviewers, not the once in a while Opeth listener, ever references this song. And yet it has 2.8 million views. For me at least this is probably a top 20-25 song of theres and one of my favorites off of that album. Weirdly unrated and yet watched. In fact I will go as far as to say this whole album is underrated.
I'm glad Opeth has some children here and there, especially Ne Obliviscaris. Opeth's still composing and playing great music but nostalgia hits hard when it's all about one of the most important and genre definitive from the past. I hope they're happy working with this "Progressive Rock" style, I wish the best to Opeth but still I'm missing my old beloved Opeth and I'll never "grow up" ou "get over it". Songs like Widowpane, Harlequin Forest, Master's Apprentice, Heir Apparent, Bleak, Deliverance, Harvest, Hope Leaves, Burden... Sigh...
You don't like they're new more Prog style but you list songs like Windowpane, Burden, Harvest? It's just kind of confusing. I mean I definitely would agree that their older stuff is generally better than their newer stuff but I would put Heritage above Deliverance and even damnation. Blackwater Park, Damnation, Ghost Reveries, Watershed, and Heritage are all top notch albums imo. Sorceress is good but not mind blowing, I'm just happy they don't do the same shit over and over again like they could've done so easily.
their old shit was better than all this copies from the seventy, cause were true inspired compositions , akerfeldt didn't invented nothing, he's only stealing ideas here and there from his old vinyl collection, and will never know from which songs they were taken.

They have to include ERA (my favourite song of Sorceress) in the new Tour, I will scream like a little girl when they start to play it, Mexico awaits for you Opeth!!
Say what you will about the new proggy Opeth, but I think it kicks ass and I can't wait to see em on Feb 6th. It's nice to see a band that aren't afraid to do what they want rather than caving to the people who "only like the old stuff". I went to the heritage tour and it was hilarious to watch people loose their shit because "OMG WHEREZ THE GROWLS NOT BR00TAL ENOUGH" but I hope people will have matured a bit by now and realized that the old albums still exist and they can listen to them whenever the like
Really? The people who "only like the old stuff" are the people who got Opeth to where they are to where you bother to listen to them. It's nice to see a band not take orders from labels to make money, but it's also nice to see standards kept that earned them their spot. Your strawman argument of wherez the growls not brutal enough is completely forgetting the greatness of their Damnation album which clobbers the shit out of their last 3 albums in terms of inspiration and general quality and sinks your point entirely. Try again. Sure the old albums still exist but to make new ones under the same name of Opeth with an entirely different direction is just riding the coattails of their previous formula's fame.
Where did I ever decry the older stuff? I love the older stuff and some times like it more than the new stuff. I was listening to Deliverance yesterday. For me Master's Apprentices was the highlight of the Opera house show that happened last Monday. Yes, Damnation and Deliverance are better, I agree with you. I fail to see how that fact defeats my main point, which was that there are people who simply can't handle that a band can change it's musical style. Opeth are certainly not the first to do so. There almost seems to be a mantra of "thou shalt release the same album every 5 years until you retire and you shall not grow as a musician or human being". Here there are kids at shows who weren't even alive when Orchid was released, running around saying that Opeth are shit simply because they changed their musical style and heckling the band throughout sets. Which to me is totally disrespectful. That is what my point was about. I also highly doubt that the kid who was 7 when Damnation came out and discovered Opeth when he was 14 had any great bearing on the growth of the band at that time. Also are you really insinuating that the band should change their name simply because they changed their musical sound? Should Varg Vikernes stop recording as Burzum? Should Metallica have changed their name after ...And Justice for All? Michael Åkerfeldt's name would carry the same weight and expectations no matter what the sound was.
The old stuff is the best, no question for me. Some of the newer songs are great, like this one, most of Pale Communion, and a few songs from Heritage. Although the old stuff is my favorite and I only like a portion of their newer material, I think it is really cool that they have taken a different direction and have the freedom to make whatever kind of music they want.
To be honest I find its getting out of hand - too many bands these days are "maturing" (99% of the time it means they went soft and more mainstream friendly) and what not. Many of these bands fans came to like them because of their initial sound, which many of their fans grew accustomed too. It gets frustrating to see yet another band "mature" when their initial sound is the main reason people listened to them. its like if I am listening to Opeth (or insert other band which has done this shit) I want to fucking hear Opeth, not another band, or something that doesn't sound like Opeth. Hope you get what I am trying to say, I just hate this "maturing" bullshit that a lot of bands do.
I'm just beyond fucking down to hear whatever comes out of these guys' heads Love this bands entire discography and glad they're having fun and taking risks

regardless of many thoughts.. opeth have matured into this.. they are and insanely talented bunch..and as all incredible talent, it moves and changes shape and texture..like life. this is fantastic stuff
I love it. I just absolutely love it. There is just something about Opeth tracks that keeps you listening. Every album these guys made is different and yet somehow, wherever they borrow their inspiration from (this has quite some classic rock / Deep Purple in it) when the Opeth sauce gets poured over it, it becomes their sound again. When I look at the overwhelminly positive reviews Opeth has on each of their album's I'm once again certain that I'm not alone. Love it!
In my opinion, those who are by pagan cultures called gods are the fallen angels. For example: Hellel ben Sachar (now called Satan) - Lucifer/Sol Invictus, Ra, Svarog, Mixcoatl, Belus, Saturn, Krishna; Lilith - Great Mother Goddess, Isis, Mokoš, Semiramis, Moon Goddess, Kali; Azazel - Thovt, (Newagie) "Metatron", Odin, Merkur, Allah (when it comes to origin of that name); Abbadon - Apollyon, Hades; etc. And as an Occultist and Traditional Satanist I can say (and this is from my and other's experiences), those beings do exist. But think whatever you want, and please, if you have nothing intelligent to say about that, don't even react - thank you.
it's so fun to watch people talk shit about Opeth no matter what the band does. I love this album and their back catalogue. their live shows are still epic too
Opeth are awesome band. True genious musicians with genious compositions. They give metal new face. I hope that they will make some album with symphony orchestra, or at least couple of concerts.
I could not help but notice the Spirited Away influence in this video. Specifically the No Face reference is where I'm getting at. This video was quite the best use of said reference :) 10/10 Thumbs up 👍
Fortunately the first song i heard from opeth was the wilde flowers. And i very much loved it. So i dont have that feelings like 'i love the good old opeth etc' i like their old stuff, but their recent albums is definitely more fun to listen for me at least

Everyone talks smack about Ghost calling them pop but I think they sound just like Opeth
looks like No-Face (Kaonashi) from Spirited Away
exactly, dont know if other culture has the same thing..
Definitely think it's supposed to look like him
This song really grew on me and is actually pretty addictive. Some of Opeth's newer hard rock songs didn't do much for me (i.e. Cusp of Eternity, The Devil's Orchard, etc), but when I hear stuff like this song, Moon Above, Sun Below, and Folklore, they seem to be succeeding very well with this style.
The bass in this song. The bass...
and drums...
And the song...:)
and me! :)

And you
and he!
that intro is everything
The first time I went to Stockholm alone when I was 15 I saw Mikael Åkerfeldt, too afraid to say hi I ran to the Scifi Bookstore, came back when I gathered my courage. And he was gone, I wish I would've just said hi. That way I might've kickstarted my love for Opeth sooner. Thank you for all the music guys, keep doing what you like and how you like it! Continious change is what I love about your music so dearly, which this video, so different from others, proves.
Frances Luna lol
The prog rock shit Opeth are doing is awesome, I think this is the period where they need Per Weiberg the most.
fantastic video
Ce sont vraiment les meilleurs musiciens actuels! Une telle créativité est incroyable! Je les adore!
Entertaining video. I love the last album, I love their old stuff (Morningrise, GR, SL etc.) and I love the new albums - Heritage and Pale Communion. I love everything Opeth related. :)
Emanuil Valkov I love guacamole
So do I
me recuerda a una peli q se llama El viaje de chihiro.
Me too!!
muy de acuerdo, la vi y doy fe de esto

A mi, me recuerda a Suecia
This song (as most of the Opeths songs) has such a deep esoteric meaning
Wtf
I believe Mikael is deep into the occult as well
What is this song about
I'm glad Opeth has some children here and there, especially Ne Obliviscaris.
Sigh...
yeah those are really good popsongs
I listen to progressive rock, and this doesn't sound like progressive rock.
Cymo NET this is not progressive rock get it right
You don't like they're new more Prog style but you list songs like Windowpane, Burden, Harvest?
NoFace is that you? :D
3D
Very likely so.
A studio Ghibli reference, right?
And i think Ghibli's reference comes from a 57' movie called Det sjunde inseglet

The immortality of Opeth in one video
There's a sign in the rain
Every now and again
It is a symbol of hope
In the midst of a catastrophic episode
In the hour of death
There's a spiritual wealth
When we dance through the rain
And form the signs once again
If even for a second
I hear a voice on the air
It has a warning to share
"Don't believe what you see"
"You can't perceive what you feel"
But if I do what I'm told
And shun the spirit I hold
I'm no longer a human
And I will not shift with the sands
The end of an era
One starts anew
You know the devil
He lives in you
The end of an era
One starts anew
You know the devil
He lives in you
There are moments of doubt when I don't know what to do
And giving in is the only way out
When there's…
It is a philosophical song without words but with overtones
I think this is the most fast-paced song I've ever heard from Opeth since the beginning. I wonder what the tempo is... great song and video!!!
I'm just beyond fucking down to hear whatever comes out of these guys' heads
Love this bands entire discography and glad they're having fun and taking risks

Love the Energy in this one!
I hope Opeth never stops evolving, they change styles every few albums but they always produce memorable, great tunes.
Damnation was memorable, great tunes that had no metal. This is stuff that wouldn't float if it weren't for the Opeth brand name it's riding on.

E evita o espírito e o seguro
E me entregando é a única saída
Opeth back at it again with dank videos
Mikael Åkerfeldt is flooded with creativity! The section - 4:25 to 4:38 is epic Opeth. Mind-blowing.
i like the transition at 1:10 from innocence to harsh realities that we must go through to Mature ....
It's good that there are still groups that make something new and original music.
Fantastic song and video.

Hey kid, let's take a leisurely stroll through hell!
Paulo Brasil It’s not really hell if you can hear Opeth playing lol
I almost expect Ghost to cover this song on a future EP );
While I prefer Death-Prog Opeth, they still a 11 out of ten 10. Blackwater Park probably will forever remain my fav Opeth album but this album is perfection.
The new album is fucking amazing.
Make one of the ward.
Hell yea!
The Ward is such an awesome song, I've listened to it again and again so many times.
PLEASE.

Over the 1M, thanks Opeth for all the music and visual art showed!

That drum/bass opening defies my attention span
regardless of many thoughts.. opeth have matured into this.. they are and insanely talented bunch..and as all incredible talent, it moves and changes shape and texture..like life. this is fantastic stuff
Love it!
This song, persephone, sorceress, and strange brew are my favorites. The whole album is great but these songs stand out to me.
so the band apparently is among greek gods now.
More like greek gods are among Opeth.
greek gods didnt write such drab songs tho
Goddess Persephone is among them
To be fair though, the Greek Gods never actually wrote any songs. Y'know, 'cause they don't exist.
In my opinion, those who are by pagan cultures called gods are the fallen angels.
For example:
Hellel ben Sachar (now called Satan) - Lucifer/Sol Invictus, Ra, Svarog, Mixcoatl, Belus, Saturn, Krishna; Lilith - Great Mother Goddess, Isis, Mokoš, Semiramis, Moon Goddess, Kali;
Azazel - Thovt, (Newagie) "Metatron", Odin, Merkur, Allah (when it comes to origin of that name);
Abbadon - Apollyon, Hades;
etc.
And as an Occultist and Traditional Satanist I can say (and this is from my and other's experiences), those beings do exist. But think whatever you want, and please, if you have nothing intelligent to say about that, don't even react - thank you.
The lighting is amazing! Good job! Bravo!
That basss
PURE ART PURE BEAUTY
amazing video and song
Es una obra visual y Sonora ... ❤
it's so fun to watch people talk shit about Opeth no matter what the band does. I love this album and their back catalogue. their live shows are still epic too
Gran tema. 🤘
Been listening to Opeth for a few years now...they just keep getting better!
Opeth and Jinjer should go on tour together
This young kid has so much talent.
Hes gone be one of the biggest actor of the world.
It reminds me of a mix of spirited away and Dante walking with Vergil through the realms of the Inferno :-D
zumdidum I had Dante in mind too .. The fire realm and the statues ward are similar to some circles of hell
HELL YEAH ...
...in beggining of the song I wasn't sure if Opeth still plays metal but now I am definitly sure
is that chihiro
cornholio
Opeth are awesome band. True genious musicians with genious compositions. They give metal new face. I hope that they will make some album with symphony orchestra, or at least couple of concerts.
Theo Martin That will be called The Astonishing pt. 2, and will equally suck.
Rutwick Gangurde That album is very good. Bands should try new ideas. Just like The Beatles and The Beach Boys did.
Rutwick Gangurde Maybe pop or country/bluegrass concept album?
yeah maybe some country twang and dubstep too. expand those horizons. open your mind maaaaan.
Dios que canción tan increíble y agradable

I could not help but notice the Spirited Away influence in this video. Specifically the No Face reference is where I'm getting at.

Opeth IS it's own genre.
It's prog rock... How unique
@@soullessSiIence old school opeth was a genre of its own. Progressive death jazz fusion metal
Happy New Year people! We hope that New Era called 2018 being good for all Opeth fans. Cheers!
beautiful! Opeth is such a band! they reinvent themselves and you can confirm Akerfeldt's passion for ProgRock. Go Opeth! respect
amazing song, amazing album, please make the sorceress album a tour.... Philly would love to have u guys!!
I can't believe I slept on this album.
The bass totally makes this jam

I'M NO LONGER A HUMAN
God damn i slept on this band for way to long
5:54 I was like "Nooooo, don't put on the mask! D':"
Великолепная группа, одна из любимых в общем из всего музыкального разнообразия
Opeth is my favorite band but I notice the difference from having switched drummers, though Watershed was also pretty good. Just my opinion.
Opeth bringing back the 70s and making them sound new again. Very good
LOVE IT! I NEED MORE!
Fortunately the first song i heard from opeth was the wilde flowers. And i very much loved it. So i dont have that feelings like 'i love the good old opeth etc' i like their old stuff, but their recent albums is definitely more fun to listen for me at least
They never disappoint.
First Alcest, now this. I love seeing that so many great bands are into Ghibli.
