TV-am, in the midst of its early financial problems, comes to an end for the day and HTV line up their excruciatingly dull start-up film and a menu of what we'll see after the schools programmes are out of the way.
I actually miss the days of the start up. I think that the identity of the regions and originality has been lost somehow. I don't watch modern crap I just delve back into all that fabulous TV history. Thank you
@Janine Farnell: Yes, I miss the regional ITV days too and the TV-am tune takes me back as well.
Me too
GREAT START UP.
GOOD MORNING WALES, THAT LONDON CRAP TVAM IS GONE SO LET’S GET CYMRU!
Wales is full of beautiful scenery
So why did they make a start up video showing power stations and slag heaps?
Right. It reminded me of those old Libyan and Saudi Arabian TV start ups.
Nick Owen still going strong on BBC Midlands Today.
I was 9 in 1983. Remember this well 🙂
the uprising of the egg cups
Not quite sure why "Hex" by Bark Psychosis is one of the linked videos here, but whatever is the reason, I approve.
Nick Owen, the unfortunate victim of TV-am's budget crunch in this clip. Couldn't even afford a proper shirt and trousers for him, so he had to do the show in his squash kit.
Does anyone, by chance, remember a short interlude film (2-3mins) of The Welsh Fusiliers Band (?) that HTV used to play on Friday lunchtimes before Rainbow in the early/mid 80s?
I'm sure I haven't dreamed this!!
You weren't dreaming. There was some kind of interlude during the daytime at that time when they played a film of a military band. I remember them playing A Life On The Ocean Wave and possibly British Grenadiers.
What was the name of this startup music?
This is from Thursday 26th May 1983. For my sins, I've worked this out via the digitised archive of the Daily Express.
TV-am shortly after the sackings of Anna Ford and Angela Rippon. It was make or break if it survived
Bernie Winters goes to the dogs. @prodnose would love to see that!
Borat would be proud of that start-up film.
