DB, this was another Versus I was really looking forward to. Magic Square Sludge in Bot mode having articulation where NewAge does not is great, but my biggest gripe is the MS head sculpt. It's terrible not being able to look up much, looking down it looks like it's going to fall off, and his face looks like Lurch from the Addams Family. In Alt mode I like the way his front shoulders look with less red than NewAge, and his devastated by Devastator cartoon look I think is MS Sludge best feature.
NewAge on the other hand has a better Deco for both Alt, and Bot mode IMO. I like that he's slightly taller as he should be compared to Grimlock just like the g1 toon. In Alt mode I like the alternating eye colors, the extra articulation in his tail, and his proportions look better in comparison to MS where his head is to big...Gigiddy. Both have a 1-up on the other for certain features but NewAge IMO is the Superior Sludge.

I got the NA Dinobots first and was impressed. I'm less impressed with MS's offering. I'm sticking with NA for bot mode and MS for dino mode. Thanks for the comparison, Matt. Good seeing ya at Botcon again.

Price point lines are getting too blurred. Retailers adding the price of shipping to the cost of an item, then adding on shipping costs again separately
Save $10 but get a floppy mess with no paint that looks like a transforming eraser? Pass 😅
This was an interesting comparison...
I think the dino mode's sculpt in Magic Square's version looks a little better than Newage's. Those red robot parts on Newage's version are a bit of an eyesore. Also, even though the tail of Newage's Sludge has some articulation, the clean shape that Magic Square's version has must have been sacrificed to achieve that. I always rate sculpt and colours above everything else, so despite the paint and better articulation in Newage's version, I think Magic Square's version in dino mode is better.
Now, the robot mode is a tough one. The way I see it, Magic Square's slightly skinnier proportions mimic Sludge's cartoon model really well. The insides of the legs are also a little cleaner, and I like that the dino head shrinks more compactly in the robot mode than it does in Newage's version. However, the headsculpt is clearly worse, and that is a big factor to me when comparing which figure looks better. I think Newage has really nailed the cartoon head look.
Of course, I'm not going to get either figure because I don't collect Transformers figures of this scale. But, if I did, considering the head and lack of paint are the only negative things against Magic Square's version, I would probably choose that one.

Thanks again for your videos! I am a MS fan more than NA but I like them both. I agree about the tolerance issues on the dinobots so far from MS and it's a bit unfortunate. I still enjoy both figures though. I hope you continue to provide commentary on upcoming figures since I find it helpful to discover new bots!

I love ms toys and never minded the gummy plastic but newage this time beats every company with their dinobots. They have articulation in both modes .and the most show accurate espescially sludge. and dont start with the hasbro ones. Compared to the newage swoop the hasbro one looks like a box with wings.
this is legit what I thought, Ihe legends figures are my standard and hasbro has to match 🤣

I noticed that both of these figures are about the same height, but that's not always the case with these 2 companies. With MS & NA, we know the height for some of the same characters can vary a lot. Could you eventually make a video about which one, MS or NA, is better at keeping the heights consistent? It would be helpful if you could show some examples where the heights are inconsistent in both MS and NA, and compare them to the animation for reference. I know this would be a lot of work but it hasn’t been done well on YT yet and I think would be very helpful to new and old collectors alike.

I also prefer newage. I like my dinobots in alt mode but decided all the MS stuff would be best displayed as bots so these fill a need and I do like the butterfly shoulders in that mode. Cannot wait to see some Newage repaints of Slag! Those should be dropping soon.

I usually choose MS over NA, but I'm soooo glad I got the NA Dinobots. If I were to get the MS ones, I would leave them in alt mode. The NA bot mode just looks more imposing, the chest is wider the arms are beefier too. MS needs to fix those legs. Oh, also when you do the next Dinobot comparison, can you compare height in bot mode to each other in their own line. I remember when you said that Sludge was supposed to be taller than Grimlock, would be interesting to see how accurate they are. I was hesitant getting the NA Grimlock at first becuase I thought he was going to be undersized compared to MS. Thanks again Deluxe!

@DeluxeBaldwin I don't want to put words in his mouth, but I interpret it as how big is Sludge in this case compared to Grimlock, same manufacturer so how does the team shape up.
Like I said I compared him to MS Grimlock in the review. I did a separate VS with NA Grimlock. So I guess he needs to watch the whole review?

Like you pointed out MS is usually bigger, which I prefer. It's funny that in their larger bots, Jetfire and now the dinos, NA is bigger. So far, I've been buying NA for alternative paint, like G2 and SG, and have the MS for the toon look. Very fair comparison video

I'm glad i have NewAge Dinobots, becuase is it me or is the Magic Square's body of Sludge much slimmer, i think NewAge is better build in portions and is much bigger on the body.

I Have New Age Ymir, but i can instantly see that New Age is the way forward. MS has a better Dino head i think, and better coming with a sword. Did NA not come with Ymir leg fillers?

Depends on what your watching that cartoon on. Are you watching an old worn VHS with muted colors, Magic Square is the way to go. Are you watching a HD resolution bluray version or just remembering stuff better than they truly was, then New Age is the way.
