If she was stealing money, she may have been stealing pawnable items as well. Taking advantage of the vulnerable is the lowest of the low. Shame on her.

I read a news before about murder in Canada with only 14 years sentence! I am not surprised why this case of stealing from seniors is only a 4 year sentence.

what type of justice is that? She steals 60k and only gets 4 years in prison? what? she should be in jail for decades and then she must pay back to the victims the money she stole plus an interest rate as well. After that is done , then deport her back.
There's zero justice in Canada, zero.
She’s been ordered to pay restitution so keeping her in prison will make that impossible and will solve nothing for the victims. Better to place her back in the workforce under long probation and strict supervision. Also, you can’t deport someone based on their looks. If she’s a Canadian citizen there’s nowhere to send her to but Canada.

I worked in Healthcare. Theft was rampant. Jewelry, money,credit cards, nice linens, etc.
I once reported to the local community care service that one of the care taker was a patient in my drugstore with a questionable character, she lived with her drug addiction son

As someone who has had to hire live in caregivers to help care for my seriously ill parents, I can attest to that. Bottom line, those are strangers coming into your loved ones lives. You can be cordial but NEVER trust anyone.
No matter how difficult life is... you MUST live with honesty, loyalty and integrity... ppl trust you and when you backstab them it's traumatizing and really messes up ppl financially and emotionally.
I used to work at a bank. A female janitor from my university tried to pass a fraudulent cheque for $20k by me. The cheque was for “house cleaning” signed by a wealthy client who had dementia. It was a contributing factor to me quitting the bank

We just had a care aid fired for stealing from our clients in Alberta I reported her but it took a long time for her to be caught until someone else caught her in the act and reported her too It was a relief when she got fired… for everyone

The penalties for crime in Canada are so feeble they don't deter anyone. We have theologians for law makers who don't believe in punishment.

It is happening right now! Seniors are being scammed by painters who claim that they will use an expensive product to paint their houses so that said houses can be sold and the senior can move.
When looking at the cans of paint, they are just an ordinary product, not the Elastomerit or Terrathon that the painters are claiming that they are.
Cost of labour is 12000 dollars - cost of products 3500 dollars. A total of 15, 500 dollars.
Where do seniors go to have this investigated?
Seniors are vulnerable. Invest. after the fact, and the money is gone, is almost useless. you have to "school" your senior to ASK before the make decisions and include the family.

Agencies hire without vetting, migrants hired right off the plane. My palliative or dementia patients were targeted. Office did nothing. I even reported sexual abuse to my office and nothing was done.
