Just found your channel. We’re similarly aged so all of this is like gold to me. The Bionic Woman was one of my favorite series ever. Your storytelling, information and snark are all pretty on point! Keep it up!
I've never seen the final episode till a few years ago on streaming and I have to say I was very surprised how good it was! And the fact that they were able to squeeze all that story into one hour and it *barely felt crowded.
As a little boy of 10 years old at this time, Lindsay Wagner was the most gorgeous and unobtainable girl I could imagine (she was so good looking, even now). I remember even Steve Austin couldn't get her in the story line.
Great vids! One of my favorite scenes from the final episode was when the agent keeps refering to Jaime as "Janey" and Oscar bitch-slaps the hell out of him with words... "SAY IT! JAIME!" lmao... it's a shame that episode did not end the way it was scripted...
If you haven't watched it yet, you should do a review of the classic UK Sci-Fi series Blakes 7. It was unique at the time (late 70's early 80's) for having a lead character who is a convicted pedophile! The series broke many conventions of the time!
Wow, I don't remember diddly squat from this series, even though I watched it with my sister -- EXCEPT Lindsay Wagner's outfit in that hairdresser episode!
Cool review. By their last season I'd stopped watching this and the Six Million Dollar Man regularly and just went for the weird or potentially cool episodes, which did 't seem to be enough for me to consider the characters "current" favs anymore. But it was a nice ride for a while. Also gave a chance for some good schoolyard debates: Wonder Woman vs Bionic Woman, Steve Austin vs Ferigno Hulk, Steve vs Captain Marvel (the real one). Not sure if you covered them yet, but some 70s greats I'd lkve to see are Kolchak: Night Stalker, Ark II, Big Voot & Wildboy, Jason Star Command/ Space Academy and Logan's Run (TV show). But whatever youd do, I know it'll be enjoyable.
Fascinating the original series would have ended with Jaime as a fugitive. Wow. What a brave ending that would be! - although it's not in her character to disappear into the shadows. I think Jaime would have eventually renegotiated with the government on some level with Oscar's support - as the series actually did end.
When the "Bionic woman" was picked up by NBC after ABC cancelled it there were high hopes by true fan's. The first episode introducing the bionic dog was good! It was a two part episode and scored high ratings and high hope for fan's. The following episode brough back the Fembots. The TV guide advertisement advertised the episode as "Jamie fights and army of fembots"! Fan's of the show loved the fembots from the 2nd season. Obviously missed from the revenge plot by Dr. Franklin's son was Steve Austin (The six million dollar man} He is never mentioned in this episode which is weird because of the 2nd season cross over episode between shows and the Fembot story. It would be like Ripley never being mentioned in a new "Alien" film. Aside from that it was a decent episode and scored solid ratings. After that a few scattered episodes are worth watching but the majority is garbage! The generation of fan's from that time grew up and by todays standards the special effects are laughable. To people who were kids when the show was so popular it is nostalgic to watch and enjoy. ONLY Lindsey Wagner could make a series like this work.
For what it’s worth and in case you didn’t know the reason why ITV didn’t have a single network logo until 1992 was because it wasn’t one company. It was a group of 16 companies with each company covering a region of the UK. That is, except for “Breakfast Television”, which had one company covering the whole of the UK and London which had two companies, one broadcasting on weekdays & the other broadcasting at weekends. That’s why it had umpteen logos (or idents) before 1992. I'm a child of the 1970s too and watching them now (for want of a better expression) sends a shiver up my spine.
Any channel that has fembots, Lindsay Wagner in a permed out fall (looking fabulous btw), and Butterfly taking back the hair-do in Female Troubles, is not too gay.
Well, Max was a cyborg dog, and for some reason, robot and cyborg dogs were a big thing in 70s science fiction. In addition to Max, there was Muffitt on Battlestar Galactica, Dynomutt from the cartoon of the same name, and K-9 on Doctor Who. K-9 was clearly the best one of these.
I vaguely remember this season. The UFO episode jumped the shark. I went to it when the dvd came out since the red ship scared me as a kid, but - dang - the plot holes are staggeringly awful and relying more on increasingly dumb gimmicks. Season 2 must have been geared toward slightly older audiences. So much the better. "Maximilion" 😅 Glad they were able to keep the bulk of the supporting cast. Kudos to network. Fun fact: Jaime had been written to hook up far less than my ex-fiancee... "Random piñata" = #win! I like your taste in men 👍 If Jaime had the chip, would it be put in her shoulder? Why am i not as surprised as 8 should be regarding "The Prisoner" reference? 😁 Season 3 is indeed bad. Barking bad... So glad you didn’t go into that reboot!! Loving your content more and more. Thank you much!
It's too bad that some people think sexual identity, which is part of our basic personhood, is synonymous with sexual activity. Anyone can know I'm gay, but my sexual activity, if any, is personal. And shows like Bionic Woman, Wonder Woman and Charlie's Angels were instructive and comforting to a generation of gay men who didn't have male characters they could identify with. The eight ladies on these three shows were much more relatable than most male super heroes and detectives on television in the 70s. Sorry you were subjected to that tone deaf post (and yes, nudge for the Charlie's Angels review.) Season 3 had the worst eps of the series without a doubt. But I think FILV, Brainwash and On the Run stand with the best of season 2. I also enjoy All for One. The early internet plot is fun to watch, it's nice to see Jaime in class again (sort of,) and it's another episode of Jaime interacting with a diverse group of people. It also has a vibe similar to Sister Jaime with the suspects turning out to be sympathetic and Jaime helping them. It's a sweet epidode and it has nothing to do with ETs. We are very lucky for On the Run. Considering the ambivalance the networks had for shows back then, it's remarkable we got a series finale, especially one that addressed and gave resolution to the deep, series long trauma Jaime had intermittently shown. It's a great episode and a great acting performance for Lindsay. Definitely the ET eps were problematic, especially Sanctuary Earth. (I met Helen Hunt in 1998 and mentioned this performance and she was not nice about it. Interpret this as you wish.) And Jaime's plethora of boyfriends set me up for unrealistic expectations in my own dating life decades later. I really thought I was going to be as popular as Jaime. Thank you so much for your detailed and affectionate look at the series. Looking forward to your next video.
Thank you for the kind and thoughtful response! I think many of us wished we were as successful as Jamie, though I think she also provided a great role model to show that one could be successful in one's career and in one's personal life without necessarily being perfect. And don't worry, I'm going to try to force myself to watch Charlie's Angels at some point, even though it's not really a show that I grew up with. Thanks again!
The very best part of season 3 were the 1st 2 episodes with the 1st Max. They were fantastic. As for the one with Peter Brady- even then, I knew that there was no way a million dollar dog, with top secret technology, would be allowed out of a kennel when he wasn't working. Even if Jaime was allowed to keep him, no one else would be allowed to... The last episode has always scared me, then, now, because it's true, and she had no options. Lindsay has said that the series wasn't cancelled due to ratings, but because of internal politics. I remember looking up Lindsay Wagner and her 1st husband, and being in complete shock- how did THAT end up with THAT??????? She was probably one of the most beautiful women to appear on a series. Lindsay has gone on to do more than 60 movies, endless appearances, her mind and body workshops and books. At 74, she is still working- she began at 18- almost 60 years as an active working actress is impressive, and she is excellent at her craft.
This season with the "Fembots in Las Vegas" episode the story was ahead of it's time by about 3 years as it touches on a very serious disease that to this day there is no cure. In 1982 is the first time the New York times reports on a disease that is killing young healthy gay men. You'll know immediately where I am going when you watch the episode. It seemed unbelievable however when this episode first aired.
I think I'm one of the rare ones that liked the outer space episodes.....For example... I liked them much better than Rodeo or African connection because at least they were more interesting to me...
You’re right this season is awful. Especially the episode with those Twins from Hee Haw! Ugh. I have all 3 seasons on DVD and the only episodes I watch are Fembots in Las Vegas
@@joemanzo4453 Right? Though I do like the final episode, I just wish they'd actually had the courage of their convictions to go through with the original ending. Fembots are always fun, though!
re 6:25 - I do rewatch these & stopped and read that comment this time and ffs O_o Like, I'm not gay but I have always had sensitivity for the lgbtq+ community as other boys filled my daily life with torments & slurs for not 'fitting in' when I was growing up. Anyway, f 'em if they can't take a joke. I certainly don't mind discussions of camp (esp. w/regard to 70s TV, lol) or you just being yourself. It's all good. 🖖
Generally really enjoy your thoughtful and humorous reviews, which I just discovered, but gotta say... you thought the magic shampoo episode where Jaime is wildly out of character for most of it was great, but the finale, which beautifully handles issues of identity, government corruption and dehumanization was only meh? Wow. Well, tastes differ and all that. I'd always been under the impression writer's strikes were part of why so many episodes this season were dreadful, but the good eps (which includes On the Run IMO) are really worth watching. It's a shame writer's strikes can ruin so many television shows, and it's a good thing that never ever happened again for the Bionic Woman because there was never ever another show called the Bionic Woman.
Enjoyed this video series..., but I do have one issue. You state that Henry Kingi was her future 1st husband. This information is actually incorrect. He was her 3rd husband. Lindsay Wagner was married to Allan Rider from 1971-1973, Michael Brandon from 1976-1979, Henry Kingi from 1981-1984, and finally Lawrence Mortorff from 1990-1993.
Whoops! Looks like I may have misspoke there, as I actually did know about the other marriages. Still, if there's not at least one error in each of these videos, how would you know it was me? ;) Thank you for catching that!

Thanks for making this on the final chapter of the show.
Season three got pretty goofy, but I loved Lindsey Wagner and Max the dog as a kid. I still think she looks gorgeous.
Great video. Very informative. Thanks for your hard work and effort. As a kid in England in the 70's I didn't remember any of of this.
lol the bionic music to Lassie. And Loved the comparisons of Androids of Tara and these special effects.

love the Hulk fadeout, hahaha genius.
BTW emperordalek, I look forward to hearing you say your catchphrase whenever you get to Fantastic Four '78 with HEBBIE the robot! lol.

Wow, I don't remember diddly squat from this series, even though I watched it with my sister -- EXCEPT Lindsay Wagner's outfit in that hairdresser episode!
yay! Season 3 and yeah! it was really bad. I wonder if Helen Hunt was cast due to her work in Rollercoaster? Anyway, happy to see your content.

The song she Sang was beautiful 😍❤️ that is gorgeous I love the way she sings
