Great stuff Kyle! Some things to considering. Mick Thomson is known for use these speakers before having his signature DV77: - Carvin British Series BR100 (IOWA Sound) - Celestion T75 (He used this speaker to tune his Rivera KR7 before release it) - Celestion K100 (He chooses this one because he realized that it has tighter low end and more headroom)
Fantastic video, I have been curious about these for sometime. If you want another viable for metal Eminence speaker then you should absolutely give the CV75 a try.
I put 4 DV-77s in my Carvin C412 Legacy II cabinet replacing the 4 Vintage 30s that were in it. I am playing Mick's part in a Slipknot tribute band and using that cabinet with an Omega Granophyre. This video really demonstrates the power of a speaker; it is the great equalizer in this shootout!
this video is really cool!! the revv and the engl definitely sounded the best to my ears, it would be super interesting in the future to see both gain channels of the revv and other amps that have different voicings in videos like these!
I personally love the DV77 and love the way it pushed distorted delays and reverbs like no other speaker I've played. I pair mine with a WGS speaker for my particular application and it's absolutely perfect for what I want. Great video Kyle 👏 also if you use a bright amp, this speaker definitely helps balance out all frequencies.
YES!!!!! Now this is my speed right here!!! I’ve been wanting to try these speakers on my EVH el34 100 watt head. This just strait convinced me that I absolutely need to upgrade the v30’s in my Engl cab.
Dude you crushed it once again! There's about 8 of these amps are so neck and neck with amazing sound to me. A couple of others that actually surprised me with how good they sounded with something other than the V30 styled speakers. Yeah this was killer! 🤘🤘
Of these amps, the Uberschall sounds the best to my ears. Mean, full, yet tight and articulated. BTW, the Synergy module of the Uberschall shares most of these qualities. At least in my rig. And of course thumbs up to Kyle for the great video!
Nice work sir!! I loved the sounds from the Revv and the Diezel. The DV77 seems to tame some harshness...but with a little eq those mid/highs can be slightly added back in to desired taste!!! Thank you for your video!!
The Dual Rectifier, Mark IV, Bogner Ecstacy, and Mezzabarba all kick ass through DV-77s. Both 5150s sounded great too, but they didn't blow me away like the others, surprisingly. Edit: I keep coming back to this video, and it's weird how I think the Rockerverb sounds the best now. Guess tone preference does constantly change lol
Thanks for your videos Kyle! So many test amps, speakers, guitars, etc. without boosting or playing heavy rock or metal. You do that and don’t color the audio so I know what I’m getting when I buy gear you’ve tested. So glad to see you get Sweetwater, Engl, and so many other great sponsors. Keep the great content coming. Blessings.
Hey Kyle, I’ve mixed the 77’s with V30s in a 4x12 recto slant and they compliment each other so well. Amp is a Marshall Dsl402 hot rodded with the legendary tones hot mod v2 - thanks for the insights on that, sounds huge!!! Great videos, so engaging, insightful and fun to watch!
Nice job man. I feel the DV-77 is missing some midrange and High end content I’m used to getting from a V30, but that being said it’s an amazing sounding speaker, I bet a DV-77/V30 loaded 4x12 would kill. I learned a lot about these amps in this video. That Engl is dark, I need an Omega, and that triple X punches way above its weight class.
Noticed similar results. I like the speaker, but definitely not by itself. Sounds a little congested like you said lacking in the mids. The low mids are sick tho. Cool character for the chugs. Gives it a metallic clanky thunky thang.
Nice job Kyle! They have a really unique sound for sure... I like the EVH EL34 (but I like that amp period..), each amp had a new flavor it seems... I have a pair of 77s mixed with Governors in an old Crate oversized cab, and love the blend. To me, a mix of speakers sound the best (I've tried with Swamp Thangs and Man-of-wars too), as they seem like they need something to round them out... Great video! Thanks!
Yes!!!! Eminence!!! Kyle you work fast man!! The old UK Marshall/v30.. Great!! My 89 v30 cab is a gem.. It's like after 1991 v30s weren't my thing anymore.. But my eminence 2x12 was a nice addition I use for jazz/prog soloing, 8 finger clean tapping with Valhalla reverb. Really nice well rounded speakers and not harsh/brittle.. great review, eminence speakers are the goat!!!
thanks Kyle for making this. I think this is one market content creators don’t talk about enough . It’s cool that we got every awesome amp in the world and every cab but what speakers we put in it makes a difference also pick ups I wish we talked about pick up more. You’re the deal Kyle. Write that down .
I used the celestian sevent-80s then Eminence swamp thang and Texas heat, but I’ve been using the dv77 for 7 years now and I love them. I use a MT15 with two mt 1x12s loaded with the dv77. Keeping it simple, a od808 and isp decimator is all. This has been my favorite setup.
Man those boxy mids on the Orange are so distinct. My favorite in isolation is the 5150, and while it will cut through a mix I'd bet that Orange will bark through one lol.
DV77 and CV75 has been my goto since I heard Kohle pair’em together. They were my V30 killer, not in the sense they sounded just like’em, but they did what I liked about the V30 (obviously generally speaking, as we know there’s variants) and added/shaped my sound in a way I wish my V30’s would’ve. All that to say, I’m less obsessed with them on almost anything not ERG, that’s where I still find myself pairing the V30 with something else. Feel like it’s something to do with where the mids are emphasized, less consistent/flat throughout like V30’s. Regardless, enjoyed both this vid as well as the V30 one. I feel for your back moving all this gear. Haha
I think the Splawn then the VHT , a very percussive attack on both, but I’m kinda biased I really love the VHT Pittbull, a very underrated amp in my Opinion, the Eminince speakers have there own thing going on for sure.
I just added the dv77 in my KSR 2x12 with a v30 and so far I like it with my EV 5153 Stealth 50W. Going to run it through my KSR Orthos tonight and then the Mesa Dual Rect. Multiwatt some time soon.
I really like the Mesa Mark iv pair with them . They make the amp yield modern tones , punchy , focus mids and nice tight low-end .... awesome . Almost a new version of the Mark iv !
Good speaker for amps that are low-mid forward. Sounded awesome with the Rockerverb and surprisingly the Archon which I didn’t really expect. I’ve been looking for something to match in my 2x12 with my Governor and since I play my OR30 a lot now I think this speaker would compliment that really well.
it is very bright without the fizzy side of a v30. However, it can be a little dark in a cab 4x12 oversize rear load like the mesa on the other hand in front load in an engl 4x12 xxl it is incredible
I have one, and I love it!. I have it paired with an Eminence Hempdog. But I had to build a new back for the cab for the hempdog. Im thinking about pairing it with a Mesa V30. For me, it's the jcm 2000, Splawn and Orange that I liked.
Love these speakers more mids and a heavier bottom end. I got 4 in my cab and use a marshall jcm 800 kerry king edition. The v30's are too high voiced for me. There is also the hesu demons they are pretty good speakers as well for those looking.
Right off the bat it's a big difference. I normally am not a big fan of your Typhon in standard. The Duncan usually for me sounds a bit too bright. But this speaker brings in the lower frequencies that I guess I am liking. It's a rounder tone to me. I'll come back and reveal my face in about 20min
You have good ears and i like your taste in tones so i would like to hear your honest opinion about these speakers. Appreciate your input on any gear you demo.
Love this series Kyle thanks for putting in the work. Do you not use a looper/re-amp because each setup encourages slightly different playing feel? Always wondered why most creators don't use loopers. Maybe it just isn't optimized content without the live player in frame?
As I was watching the video listening to it the mark amp Mesa Boogie was the only one that I had to stop and look to see which one it was because it really made the difference and it would really cut through a mix
I love an assortment of different speakers besides the v30. It’s a misconception that there is only a couple speakers you can use for metal. You can use any speaker that sounds good to you and there are a lot of them.
Thanks, that's an interesting one! Seems that V30s tend to work well with darker amps. And DV77 sounds balanced with brighter amps, even the Rectifier doesn't seem that fizzy. That Peavey tho... like, what is it and why does it sound so good?!
Celestion Redback 150watt in a Katana MK2 100watt 1x12. And/or a selection of other speakers (5 or 10) in a Katana MK2 100 specifically for metal you'd be a legend.
So I've had DV-77s in my Marshall 2x12 for about a year now, I recently tracked an EP blending that 2x12 with a regular V30 Mesa oversized 4x12, myself using a 6534+ and the other guitarist using a Dual Rectifier. And while I love the tone of the DV-77s on their own, they're rather hard to get to sit in a mix well, any advice? I did do leads with a 5150III 6l6 just out of the DV-77s and that did turn out great though.
This speaker really seems to prefer EL34’s in most of the clips here; gotta love the Omega Grano though… also the Bogner XTC is one of the sickest high gain amps ever devised! 🎉😊
Not a fan of my gear 'scooping' the mids so hard for me. Seems like something you wouldn't be able to dial out really either, comparing so many different amps. Great demo!
You know what would be killer Kyle, if you did a cab with v30s next to the cab with dV77s, then A and B them back and forth so we get a good idea you know? To me with my cabs the v30 has more sizzle on the top end, where the dv is rounded on the top end with more mids I’d say. I noticed I had to back my mids down with the dv. But I love it
always wanted some dv77's to pair with my jcm2000 and having actually heard that combo it sounds nasty as hell. $450aud for one speaker is insane though 😭😭
Hey Kyle do you think I could throw two used DV-77’s in a Peavey 412ms with the Sheffields in an X pattern to get rid of some of the top end fizz and add some base?
Hey Kyle, curious if you have an opinion on the 25w Celestion Greenback for metal? Could definitely hear the speaker putting its signature on every amp. It seems more of a low mid emphasis than a high mids thing like the V30. It's also has less top end fizz, but I kind of like the v30 fizz with a lot of amps.
The mesa make IV and the Orange Rockerverb sounded best to my ears .. that said all of them sounded very similar. Maybe Fricker is right about speakers. It would be interesting to hear them compared to V30s..
I've been listening to this video w/o watching and most amps sounds the same this guy has a house for his amps and cabs because there's no room for anything else! What do ya do Kyle? Got a separate guest house we're you actually live? I thought I was the only one who tossed his furniture out to make room for more gear!??😅
There's a youtuber called tyrannosaurus riffs that did a comparison between the v30 and the dv-77 and some ppl in the comments said they use them both in the same cab and they sound really good
This is gonna catch some flack but I compared these to some other stuff I have around and the lowley budget celestion 70/80 sound almost exactly the same as these in my Randall xl cab
Oddly enough I thought the Orange and Mezzabara sounded the best, those amps seemed to sound super open with the 77. The speaker has been on my radar for a while now, but since I have an EL34 5150 maybe it’s not the speaker I need after all.
To me the other Omega engineeered speaker the VM12-65 sounds worlds better on it's own. The DV-77 seems so flat that it feels like something important is missing but of course this could be the sound you're looking for.
The midrange sounds kinda hollow slightly phasey kinda vocal honky at times. I wonder if it's because the baffle on the cab is 100% parallel to the back (cabs like that tend to sound like that sometimes like Orange) or that's just the Eminence voicing, because that also seems to be recurrent and why I tend to avoid Eminence speakers.
Interesting how similar sounding these amps are, especially live or in a mix you really experience some diminishing returns price wise. Maybe the feel of the amp is something else thou? I dont know.
yeah it absolutely doesn't sound like a v30, however, what it sounds like is that it has too much of its own character to the point that the amps sound indistinguishable.

They all sound pretty much the same.
May as well just get the Marshall or the 5150
Yes awesome and Bull IR packs are much needed after hearing this.
fr 🔥
Kristian Kohle has made some really awesome ones. Available on the Eminence Website.
Great stuff Kyle! Some things to considering. Mick Thomson is known for use these speakers before having his signature DV77:

- Celestion T75 (He used this speaker to tune his Rivera KR7 before release it)
- Celestion K100 (He chooses this one because he realized that it has tighter low end and more headroom)
If you have Hesu Demons, that might be another interesting 20 amps through one speaker type of video! Awesome video!
Always wanted to hear "only" DV77S in a cab. I've got them mixed with V30S in 2 different cabs. They sound excellent by themselves... thanks man!!
Fantastic video, I have been curious about these for sometime. If you want another viable for metal Eminence speaker then you should absolutely give the CV75 a try.

IT'S THE SPEAKER, FOLKS! 🤘🏻

Agree with the mixing of speakers. I run a pair of dv77 with heritage 55hz greenbacks. Killer mix
I really really liked how the rockerverb sounded surprisingly! That pairing sounded amazing to me.
Liked the Bogners, the Mezzabarba, the Rockerverb and the Hagen a lot here!
If only the speaker weren't so expensive in Europe
You and I got the same taste!
Kyle great video. My favorite was Bogner Ecstasy 20th anniversary. Massive sound, punchy mids, great low end. Just brutal
Yes!!!! Eminence!!! Kyle you work fast man!! The old UK Marshall/v30.. Great!! My 89 v30 cab is a gem.. It's like after 1991 v30s weren't my thing anymore.. This just solidified my undying loyalty to peavey.
The Rectifier, the Splawn and the Omega amp sound best to me in this video.

Here's one to try, the WGS Reaper/Reaper HP. Replaced 2 V30's and they are fantastic. Definitely in the same ballpark.
My favorite cab right now has 2 V30 in the bottom and a DV77 and Reaper HP in the top. Needs a lot of mics, though.
Man those boxy mids on the Orange are so distinct. My favorite in isolation is the 5150, and while it will cut through a mix I'd bet that Orange will bark through one lol.

Cv75 have more upper mids?
Pretty clear here that it works with all your amps you put thru it.
I think the Splawn then the VHT , a very percussive attack on both, but I’m kinda biased I really love the VHT Pittbull, a very underrated amp in my Opinion, the Eminince speakers have there own thing going on for sure.

Really great comparison
I'd like to hear more like this
Good speaker for amps that are low-mid forward. Sounded awesome with the Rockerverb and surprisingly the Archon which I didn’t really expect. I’ve been looking for something to match in my 2x12 with my Governor and since I play my OR30 a lot now I think this speaker would compliment that really well.
the archon rips though that cab
Awesome job once again! Would love to hear your thoughts, or even better, see a video like this on K100’s. 🤞
K85s* ;)
Some of your best content right here
I run a DV77, a V30 and two EV evm12L speakers in my cab and man o man does it kick my ass.
Dude! The Peavey's!!! That 5150 block 🤌 and the Engl are my favs!! Wonder how those speakers would sound with a Peavey VTM 120!?
it is very bright without the fizzy side of a v30. However, it can be a little dark in a cab 4x12 oversize rear load like the mesa on the other hand in front load in an engl 4x12 xxl it is incredible
Fuck yeah happy to see the VHT out and getting some play time.
I have one, and I love it!. I have it paired with an Eminence Hempdog. But I had to build a new back for the cab for the hempdog. Im thinking about pairing it with a Mesa V30.
For me, it's the jcm 2000, Splawn and Orange that I liked.
I swapped out my Vintage 30 for one of these and it sounds amazing!
it's always been finding the right speaker for an amp.....you're really doing a flip here.
Tames that high end fizz.
The pitbull sounded monstrous through those speakers.
Love these speakers more mids and a heavier bottom end. I got 4 in my cab and use a marshall jcm 800 kerry king edition. The v30's are too high voiced for me. There is also the hesu demons they are pretty good speakers as well for those looking.
The peavey 5150, vht, and dual rectifier in that order for me.
So many amps, so little time. - This riffage reminds me of the 1999 Immortal record At the Heart of Winter. 🤘
I have to say through my end that mark lV slays them all with that riff and speakers....dang 🤤
i love this speaker. i do mix them with v30. mesa os cab of course
Love this series Kyle thanks for putting in the work. Do you not use a looper/re-amp because each setup encourages slightly different playing feel? Always wondered why most creators don't use loopers. Maybe it just isn't optimized content without the live player in frame?
I run DV-77s with Fane f70s in my Atlas OS cab. Total balls to the wall
Awesome video. I would love to see you playing hesu demon speakers.
Dude i love you for this thank you very much
Thanks, that's an interesting one! Seems that V30s tend to work well with darker amps. And DV77 sounds balanced with brighter amps, even the Rectifier doesn't seem that fizzy. That Peavey tho... like, what is it and why does it sound so good?!
Its a triple x. Underrated budget tube amp from the early 2000's.
Celestion Redback 150watt in a Katana MK2 100watt 1x12.
And/or a selection of other speakers (5 or 10) in a Katana MK2 100 specifically for metal you'd be a legend.
WGS Reaper and Reaper HP’s are great too. The WGS Veteran 30 is decent too.
The Revv is pretty damn good too
This speaker really seems to prefer EL34’s in most of the clips here; gotta love the Omega Grano though… also the Bogner XTC is one of the sickest high gain amps ever devised! 🎉😊
I LOVE THE DV-77 ITS IN ALL MY MAIN CABS AND I USE A PRS ARCON MK 2
Not a fan of my gear 'scooping' the mids so hard for me. Seems like something you wouldn't be able to dial out really either, comparing so many different amps. Great demo!
Yo uso estas bocinas despues de probar las mas populares, me quede con estas bocinas DV77, para mi gusto las mejores
You know what would be killer Kyle, if you did a cab with v30s next to the cab with dV77s, then A and B them back and forth so we get a good idea you know? always wanted some dv77's to pair with my jcm2000 and having actually heard that combo it sounds nasty as hell. $450aud for one speaker is insane though 😭😭
If I could afford to load my Behringer 4x12 with 4 DV-77s, I'd have done so yesterday. Still, it is my favorite impulse response
xxx took it imo, rockerverb mk3 sounded awesome
Would have loved to hear you reamp thru a cabinet with these speakers and one with V30's. The differences would have been even more prominent.
man nice collection depend what u like low end on 5150 and Ubershaller kills but mesa seems sound the tightest for me
Interesting. That speaker has such a 'sound' that lots of the amps sounded almost the same as one another 🤔
My favs are Hesu Demon , Celestion K-100 , DV-77
Is that a Solar string mute behind the nut of your guitar? I'm trying to find these!!
Hey Kyle do you think I could throw two used DV-77’s in a Peavey 412ms with the Sheffields in an X pattern to get rid of some of the top end fizz and add some base?
Ok, you sre playing through an Omega cabinet.....thats all that needed to be said for me!!!
Is that an ENGL Powerball on the background? Could we expect a review soon?
The mesa make IV and the Orange Rockerverb sounded best to my ears .. that said all of them sounded very similar. Maybe Fricker is right about speakers. It would be interesting to hear them compared to V30s..

Dv77/v30 combo.... dv77/ Texas heat combo.... try both thank me later
The uberschall and revv and friedman sounded SOOOOOO good (which is also my experience with these speakers) need more time to listen
To me the other Omega engineeered speaker the VM12-65 sounds worlds better on it's own. The DV-77 seems so flat that it feels like something important is missing but of course this could be the sound you're looking for.
Is that dsl modified with a deep KNOB? Whered you have that done dude?
The midrange sounds kinda hollow slightly phasey kinda vocal honky at times. I wonder if it's because the baffle on the cab is 100% parallel to the back (cabs like that tend to sound like that sometimes like Orange) or that's just the Eminence voicing, because that also seems to be recurrent and why I tend to avoid Eminence speakers.
5150’s always a winner for me
Try them with the 5150 iconic. Its sick
Definitely not as open and mid-focused as the V30
Honestly not a fan of this speaker, but the Mark IV and I think it was the Bogner Uberschall sounded best to me. Great show case though \m/
