Scotty you were transplanted to the south but still talk 90mph. Captions are increasing not available which make it more difficult to follow your narration. Can your channel have any impact with UA-cam's everyday quality issues?
hey Scotty I'm looking at a 2011 BMW 335i with 50k mileage for $15,000 I only need it for 4 years, should I buy that or get a 158k mileage Lexus is350 for the same price.
What you going to do when Scotty the "MECHANIC"🧰🔧 rumbles down on you brother😲😲😉🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗👍
@@drofdoctors7887 I'm a mechanic of 25 years, and the VAST majority of what Scotty says is dead on accurate. Sounds to me like your biased, probably in favor of a bad brand, like Ford or Nissan, and just don't like hearing the truth... Him having a favorite company, based on that companies reliability, is only "biased" if it motivates him to publish non truth about companies other than his favorite brand, which he doesn't Ergo; the channel ISN'T biased...
Yh scotty I love videos like this keep it up man 💯🔥👌🙌
We enjoyed this content. The world loves you Scotty. Your raising a whole new generation of vehicle enthusiast. Much Respect.
Like a toothache
Better learn batteries
He’s the best, loads of knowledge. He clearly explains things with a good setup and delivery. Love the voice
You're raising....ie YOU ARE
Not "Your" raising. (Which means he owns 'raising')
This man is a mechanical dictionary and should be a national treasure. Much respect scotty.
Totally agree my friend. AGREED.
He should have his own TV show.
hes reading a script he outsourced.
My wife has a Mechanical Dictionary : she says I'm getting too old to give her a proper definition.
You always explain everything in way everyone can understand, even the mechanically handicapped 🙄👍👌🤓
I've learned a lot from Scotty. I don't listen to what many people say on mechanical advice, but I trust the info I get here. I think it's atleast 95% right. Nobody's perfect. lol
"Mechanically challenged" is better description
Heeeeeey!
That's me
He sometimes mis explains things. like he was completely wrong here about w engines. w engines like the bugatti use two h banks
You're obviously a top-notch mechanic Scotty, but you're really a better teacher than anything else. Mad respect!
The sound of a high revving flat six is amazing.
CBX 1000
M20
The sound is from the uneven exhaust. They dont sound like that in the newer models, unfortunately.
Yah digging into the throttle on a 911 is GUARANTEED to put a smile on your face
V10s FTW. LFA or Carrera GT.
I remember the Mopar 225 slant six back in the day it was indistructable.
Scotty doubled down on production quality... I showed this video to my wife and she’s watched in twice already within the hour it was posted.... 👌
hello and thank you, tell her I said hello!
That’s Easy to Answer : the one you have paid for and you don’t have to pay for over and over again !
Maybe my .225 slant six
It's been a minute since it's uploaded why are there already dislikes why? These dislikes are people who just want to be toxic for no reason
I don't know if my brain is working better today or if this video is really that simple to understand, but for the first time in my 43 years of exitance I can TRUELY say I understand how a car engine REALLY works, and the REASON for so many DIFFERERNT types of engines. Thank you, Scotty Kilmer!!
Thanks Scotty! This type of video is my favorite that you create. I too appreciate that you explain the operation of things people use every day but truly know very little about.
Thanks Scotty for the explanation of combustion engines.
I nominate the 327 Chevy! Bought a 67 Impala new, and still haven't had to repair it, or rebuild the 327 in it yet.
Crazy timing. I had just been searching for videos on how engines work right before this video was released. Thanks Scotty.
Your knowledge, quick wit, and sense of humor are some thing I look forward to every Day!
Great video and great graphics. One note, the "W" type engines used in WWII aircraft had 9 cylinders and called "radial engines". They were air-cooled with single and double turbochargers. The inline engines were V12s, water-cooled, and dual turbocharged in the most advanced fighter versions of the war.
Loving the Content!
I always find Scotty videos informative and educational, I have learned a lot, THANK YOU appreciated your efforts.
This was one the best videos i have ever watched about engines . Thanks scotty.
When Scotty is narrating, you know you're in for a treat 👍🏽
As a layman I have learned a lot from this information, thank you for educating our generation uncle Scotty
This is Accurate , Brief & Clear tutorial on Engine Configurations indeed! Thank You So Much Master Scotty Kilmer! Stay Safe & Stay Humble! 🕯🌷🕊🌎♥️🇺🇲
Explanations were spot-on 👌🔥
Scotty is like a 1.8 liter Toyota engine. BULLET PROOF 😊
SO IS A LOT OF ENGINES NOT JUST THE TOY
He’s a newer CVT version
He's right... The 1.6 is a little more reliable, but yeah, overall they're both "bulletproof." But then again, so are Lamborghini V12's... So, should you buy a Countach???... Answer; Yes, yes you should. Lamborghini Countach LP500qv is the most timelessly styled iteration of the LP models, and are completely bulletproof daily drivers. Not to mention they are one of the lesser expensive models to buy, and will only ever appreciate in value. So, a reliable 415 hp, Italian supercar, that has a reasonable asking price (for its class), is timelessly beautiful, will only ever appreciate in value, actually has cargo space (although small) AND is reliable??!?? Yes, yes you should buy one. Mortgage your house, for the down payment. Work the payments into your mortgage payments, and in the 5 to 10 years it takes to pay off, it will appreciate enough to turn you a $50,000 profit (how do you think all these UA-cam schmucks do it?). So yes, yes you should buy a mid-80's Countach...
@@jayarecallens Scotty is a transmission??? I don't understand, what are you trying to say??

Educational and fun to watch. Thanks for presenting a lot of info in crisp, clear way
You do such a great job!
It is always great to hear an old dude like you with so much knowledge to share
He is a teacher true. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that he indeed has an education background of some sort
Yeah learning to be a mechanic lol
He has a masters degree and was doing his PhD so it is likely he was a teaching assistant, then he got married and decided to leave his PhD program and be a family man and work as a mechanic
He was an automotive instructor. He mentioned it a few years back.
@@chriskill08 what was he pursuing PhD studies in?
@Jack Fox in a video a long while back he said he got his Masters degree in Anthropology and was working towards his PhD at the University of Illinois (Urbana), which is a really good school
Scotty made a video where he said Honda makes the best engines! Yall never saw that video???
Yeah, he has said it more than once
That's because their engines are extremely reliable.
My mother-in-law has a 14 cr-v and i have a 18 rav 4, the Honda has such a sweet little motor after driving my Rav it's smoother It sounds better and has sharper steering and handling now knowing this I still bought my Toyota because it's an overall better package and less likely to have other problems but man this time to make a sweet motor
@@KyprosEc I don't want a reliable engine. I want an engine so powerful I can out run God himself.
@@tennnis498 they gave mommy's little racers the Type R, meanwhile they took away naturally aspirated 6MT (a.k.a. immortal) vehicles from the lineups of all Accords and sedans and hatches of Civics. I'd be fine with the classical automatic, I would even be willing to pay for it in an Accord rather than a Civic, the same way as Corolla/Camry division is made. However, all Accords are now turbo? What the hell?!
The last remaining reliable Honda is that Civic coupe with the naturally aspirated 2L, that you have to custom order because no dealer carries the 6MT version. I should buy one just for its future collector's value
Enjoying these videos Scotty. Keep up the great work. Would love to see something on transmissions, including motorcycle types.
Love Scotty he has evolved in his forum :) Keep up the good work !!!
Awesome video Scotty!
Jeep should have stuck with the inline 4.0, those were actually good engines that would last. The gas mileage would have been better in the automatics with more than just 3 gears, but great long lasting stuff compared to the newer ones.
The EPA killed the 4.0 straight six.
you kidding me, that thing with its carburetor fuel supply needed a gas station towed behind. why do you think most would throw chevy's V8s in their jeeps??
I agree, last alot longer then 3.6
I have a 04 Wrangler tj and love it. Horrible gas mileage and no power but are bullet proof. Good luck with the new Fiat motor. The last true Jeep rolled off the assembly line in 06. The 4 door jk can't turn on the trails like a 2door with the much shorter wheel base. Check out my family off-road videos on UA-cam ..."stephynot".
@@ansv3340 literally no one who drives an older Jeep Wrangler or Cherokee gives one lick about gas mileage. Those 4.0's were one of the most reliable engines ever made. And ever since 1991 the 4.0 had fuel injection and the gas mileage was perfectly adequate by the way.
One of the best, if not the best engine descriptions I've ever seen
Scotty, love your work. We are on the cusp of a big change. My grandkids will watch this video as a history lesson, possibly in their self driving electric car.
Damn.. that's some graphics and editing 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
SSC was caught in a huge lie. They never published actual video of the top speed run? Have they? I could be wrong.
Nope they lied 🤥 🤥
they did, but it was found through landmarks to be going slower than the agera since it was the same exact road
They did show the actual video, the problem was the timing software. There is a lot of proof the car never got near 300 mph. They did do a second attempt but had some problems.
That run will never be a certified record. You are right they got caught up in a lie.
I think I also heard about this. Scotty s research not on point..but how?? lol
Loved the video great production value
Thank you, scotty. This is an excellent presentation !
Great video 😀👍
I was just looking for a video like this
Some of your best work great job explaining the different type's of motors..
Thank you Scotty. I need to take notes during your videos. Lots of helpful information. Thank you.
Scotty the man!🤘🏽🔥🔥🔥
I still didn't get to the Honda motorsport dealership. I'm so tired after work that's why. Soon I will though.
I like this format, thanks for the upload!
Great content on these informative videos, Scotty. I look forward to them. It’s like a History Channel of automotive innovation.
9:28 My favorite Scotty Kilmer video ever ! But what about the i6 vs the V6? Aside from displacement, it seems like the i6 should be the winner for both performance and ease of repair?
Wait, I know. The best engine ever made is the 1.4L engine in the Fiat 500. Got to be it. Engines like that keep mechanics in business.
In 10 years, there will be none left on the road.
the 1.4 is actually a good engine. in NA form and tjet. MA isnt so hot perhaps which is what the states get I understand
Fix It Again Tony !
Scotty, the rope representing the signal ilustrating the amplitud of vibration, along with the type of motor associated to more or less vibration, awesome man
thanks for a brief and to the point video!
Hey Scotty (2015 corvette stingray z51) How reliable are the 6.2L v8 LT1 corvette engine and how are the 8 speed automatic transmissions??
How about the 2013 corvette stingray Z51?
Who Makes the Best Engine. Toyota. 94' Celica. 1.8 Liters of Pure Longevity Bliss.
Such a good vehicle he has the only one left in existence.
I had one just like Scotty’s, a really tight car when I sold it at 150000 miles 12 years ago to a guy that has only just got rid of it!
An absolutely fantastic presentation thank you!.
Outstanding video Scotty!
How about that dynacam engine. Sure sounded like a good idea.
You didn’t mention who makes the best engine.
I was thinking the same thing, i thought i missed it
Toyota obviously 🤦♂️😉
@@teshtrion7860 Honda obviously 🤦♂️😂

300 mph car? Forget that, give me a car that goes 300,000 miles with no major problems!
Not possible. Because physics.
my 2004 tahoe has 286,000 miles with very few minor things wrong with it.
Great lesson, thanx man!
One of Scotty’s best videos
i would love to see a boxer or flat 8 engine made by subara, 5+l of displacement and twin turbo!
Joe Ca your gonna have a lot of problems and rod knocks
Shiii not gunna be reliable 😭😭😭
Then all Subaru mechanics would be millionaires.........
Ricer shitbox
Answered ever question EXCEPT who makes the best engine.
Excellent Scotty. Just excellent production here.
Your the best scotty!! Thanks for all the new content!!
"Who Makes the Best Engine and Why" Well, who and why?
Electric motors have far less vibration than any combustion engine and far more efficient
they have other problem )) length of extension cords
Awsome description , love all the videos
Nice input Scotty thank you.👍
Best engine? The one that never skips an oil change
Who needs an oil change
Honda make the best engine
all that needed to be said
Love the information thanks for the video
I was never, ever into cars at all...
Because of Scotty I now work on my own car something I never thought I would ever do!!
Am only this early because I was already on UA-cam 🤣
smart man!
Scotty you didn’t not said what engine is the best?
Supposedly Porsche has the least number of parts and easiest to rebuild.
Thanks. Great presentation & very informative.
One of the coolest engine layouts was the Suzuki RG500. It has a Square-Four. 2 stroke. I had the chance to ride one back in the 80s. One of the greatest motorcycle experiences I've ever had. Beautiful bike and so fast and comfortable. Great Sound too.
What these machines all have in common I can't afford any of them 😔
Toyota, best long lasting, my grandma owns a Corolla for almost 19 years and it was always fueled with low octane gasoline and cheap motor oil, and never went to see a mechanic
loaded a lot of good information and better graphic than before and ever.
Great video, Scotty. Love these type of videos.
Should give up on the rotary engine altogether.
@Biggest Richard Cranium I agree. The latest ones by Mazda still had the same issues as Felix Wankel, the inventor of the rotary engine had. Sealing ring failure, high oil consumption, & high fuel consumption!! These engines drink more fuel than my old 1976 Mercedes V-8.
Its not as unreliable as a lot of people make it seem
It just needs more effort to be maintained which not a lot of people like
Lets use RX-8 as an example
Its a perfect weekend vehicle
Great sound, great handling, great looks, great price, great transmission... a lot about that car is just perfect in every way
It is unreliable when you compare it to VWs 1.9 TDI or Alfas 1.9 JTD or Peugeots 1.6 HDI... but i dont think its a piece of junk, its an art
Where’s my lotus Elise fans at ?
@A V Which is hilarious given the Toyota engines.
Very professionally done 👍
Outstanding video!
Nobody: ...
BUT WHO MAKES THE BEST ENGINE???
Scotty the question in this Video is still not answered 😐
He did answer the question, pretty much the best engine depends on what your looking for, power or reliability. I find my inline 6 engine to be a smooth and reliable engine even when pushing power
Fords v8 4.6L 2 valve are best motors ever built ! they go 500 k miles and u dont even need regular oil changes on them.
@@ansv3340 every fuel powered vehicle needs regular oil changes ...
@@AlbertoMartinez-nx7hr elaborate regular oil changes?? Fords V8 and Toyotas / Honda engines run perfectly even if you do changes every 8 k miles. on mineral regular oil . Chrysler shitty designed motors tend to fail at 100K even if you do oil changes every 2 k miles. I have 2 ford trucks, , change oil every 8 k miles. or more, .both have near 500 k miles. mostly regular mineral oil used. and another ford truck with nearly 200K same thing, change oil every 8 k. Its not the oil age that kills your engine its when u never check yout oil and drive on dry engine whit no oil in it.
@@ansv3340 whats “mineral oil”?
Inline 6’s are making a comeback Mercedes E-Class have a turbo inline 6 which is getting great reviews for its smoothness and power and the new Mazda 6 the best looking car for the money is going to have a inline 6 also
Mercedes = crappy car after 50k 🙄
I never thought I wanted to know this but he made this really easy to learn and I love how the video was done. 😍🙌🏼👏🏼
If you miss your engineering class, Scotty is there for you, thanks for the very informative videos.
