      Photo Genius Hi Paul, hope you and your family are safe and well...I’m having a bit of issue here...a year ago I bought a eos Canon DSLR 2000d, I do travel a lot with my camera but I realised there is one major problem, I ran out of battery power easily,so I was searching to see if I could find a battery grip that would be compatible with my 2000d canon camera...just found out that canon doesn’t make one for the eos 2000d...someone also gave me some misleading info and I end buying one that doesn’t fit...can you please help me I would truly appreciate it...do you know of any brands that might be compatible with the 2000d canon...I would really appreciate your help please..thank You Paul!

    Thanks for a constructive tutorial. Just like to say that I have the aperture mode selected and can still bring up the focus points as you have shown and use the front dial to choose the required focus point without having to go into manual, Nothing wrong with either , would just like a comment on why you chose manual as opposed to a creative mode. Enjoy your videos, all so helpful.

      Hi Colin
      You are of course correct - this will work also work in the creative /semi-manual modes such as aperture and shutter priority. I do try and encourage people to use full manual because I think it's really important to get understand the relationship between the aperture, shutter and ISO. But also a fan of the priority modes and have featured them in other videos.
      Appreciate your feedback and support for my channel.
      Best wishes,

    Thanks for a clear to the point explanation. I just realised that manual could be only selection of focus points and yet the focus is automatic.
    I was trying to learn photo stacking and am not sure if the point is selected by the "focus points" or "f stop".

    Excellent explanation about selecting the correct focus point which can only be done in Manual mode. The real problem however is that, in Manual mode selecting the correct focus point is the easy part! You still need to also select the correct f stop, shutter speed and ISO your self. After many, many years of trying for photos on the run when there is little, if any time to waste on those selection, I still get that part wrong too often to be out of Auto mode! Aperture and shutter priority modes don't always solve this problem either because you still need to ensure you have selected the correct f stop or shutter speed for the circumstances of your photo.

    • @photogenius
      @photogenius  4 роки тому +2

      Hi Rick, thanks for watching my video. You are correct, selecting the focus point is certainly a lot easier (and quicker) than working out which shutter, aperture or ISO to use - this is why practising what we have learnt is so important, and the beauty of digital (unlike film) of course is that we can take lots of images and make plenty of mistakes and it doesn't matter.
      Programme mode would be my recommendation - with this mode you can still select then focus point with the camera looking after everything else.
      Best wishes
      Paul @ Photo Genius.

    is there any way to have the camera on automatic but have the possibility to change the focus point with the wheel incase it selects a different point than the desired one? (nikon)

    • @photogenius
      @photogenius  4 роки тому

      No, once the camera is in full auto mode you have not control over the focus points.
      Give Programme (P) mode a go as this is very similar to auto but you can adjust and change settings such as AF points.

    What about using the center focus point to focus on a subject outside the center of the picture then recomposing to take the picture, is that ok.

    • @photogenius
      @photogenius  5 років тому

      Sure, this will work as long as you are not too close to your subject. I personally prefer to move the focus point to the subject rather than focus / recompose.

    I have canon 1300d now and its cool so which camera should i buy in future?

    • @photogenius
      @photogenius  6 років тому +10

      Stick with the 1300D and think about lenses next. Good lenses are to some extent more important than the camera. Have you got a Nifty 50 yet? If not watch my video : ua-cam.com/video/z-XZqLGu9Hk/v-deo.html

Thank you so much for being concise and not acting like a high faluting photographer even though you are an expert. Straight to the point. Thanks for keeping it real and on point.

    Hi Paul, Thanks for this video. How are the metering modes connected to the AF area chosen? OR are they independent? When i choose a particular metering mode, does that study the lighting at AF focus point or just center area of the screen ? thanks
