Dont let online programs deter you from getting your education. Either way you will still get a job as an NP and before you know it you will have experience and there's nothing that will stop you from your practice. if you already work in a hospital and you get your NP they dont care were you got it, its a good pay bump and a good way to grow as a healthcare worker. All the best.

depends on the type of np you wanna be. for example, anything peds or neonate you need rn experience. acute care programs want rn experience too. so not all you can go straight through, mainly fnp can go straight through, and even that doesn’t mean you’ll actually get hired, besides, many ppl go straight through, but work as a rn during np school

Can you get your associate degree, become an RN, start working as an RN while getting your BSN and then that’s 2 years of RN experience and then the two or three years your working as an RN while attending NP school gives you 4 to 5 years of RN experience by the time you’ve graduated NP school 🤷‍♂️ not a whole lot but heck if your 50 by the time you’ve done this there is no time to waste lol.

I agree experience is valuable, BUT these standards are only for NP’s, what about PA’s that have the closest scope of practice to NPs, do they work as a nurse before becoming PA’s? No, they don’t event have to touch a patient before PA school.

Is there any way to avoid surgical procedures as a FNP? Aspiring FNP here but I’m really not a fan of surgery.

Is it true that you HAVE to work in either the ICU or ER for two years before you apply to NP school? If anything id prefer to work in MedSurg but im not sure id i can work in the ICU or ER for now at least

    • @lorelaimercy848
      @lorelaimercy848 2 місяці тому

It is absolutely not true. You need ICU experience for Nurse Anesthesia school, then there are multiple tracts and programs for NP. If you want to do FNP or Adult Primary Care med surge and clinic experience are fine. If you want to do acute care NP, you can still do med surge but depending on what job you want as an NP, you will want some critical care experience

I'm definitely chosing a state school for my BSN. Looks way better on my resume than "Capella" and their 4 months to get a BSN.

Agree with you. What do you think about RN to BSN and to MSN vs RN to MSN program? Which do you think would be better? I will be working in a hospital and learn lots of things for a few years before becoming a NP of course. The RN to MSN school has a partnership with the hospital I would like to work in. It offers a big discount for the tuition as well.

@@Ouchinessthey care!! You can’t even do clinical in some of these hospitals based on what school you go to. The hospital will turn you down. My co-worker goes to Lincoln tech all her clinical at nursing homes alone. When she goes she only gives bed baths and take a person to the bathroom. She’s graduating and will be a nurse in6 months but never gave a med. There is one hospital in my state that does not want my school but they will take Rutgers University students for clinical. I know this because my teacher told us they were trying to get us clinical placement there and they said “NO” and I go to a local CC brick and mortar. It matters where you go to school.

Quite frankly, I’m glad employers are being more “choosy” w/ whom they hire. It used to be you had to have at least 4 yrs bedside w/ 1 yr critical care. And the one year of critical care had to be w/in the LAST 3 yrs. Now, if you have the money, they let anyone in. It’s embarrassing to be w/ some of these FNP students at clinical. I won’t see pts w/ them. I hope employers are starting to see the benefit in hiring knowledgeable FNP clinicians who have been practicing at the bedside & are expert bedside RNs (not know it all’s, there’s a difference).

@@ahmedmirza3458is correct. You don’t even know how to be an NP yet. Furthermore, it’s a state by state issue. The fact that MANY states are allowing APRNs to practice to the full extent of their license is great!
Let’s be careful not to mess that up before we even really get started. Learn to be a good/great NP clinician so you actually have something to stand on. Know how to do that? Put in the work! Learn to be a safe prescriber, first; it takes time.
A collaborative practice not only compromises of pts & staff but of KNOWLEDGEABLE & skilled NP & MD clinicians. Thank goodness there are some laws in place, otherwise ppl would be out here making bad choices to the pts detriment…SMH.
As a side note, I’ve been an RN FOR 20 yrs, 15 in the ICU. I’m almost finished w/ my FNP. I would NOT want to open my own practice in any collaborative agreement. That’s quite bold. It’s aspirational to want to open your own practice but, learning first how to function as a novice NP w/ pt safety as the goal.

@@nicolaypastoreat least 4 yrs as a nurse. Many seasoned RNs are leaving the bedside to become NPs…for those of you trying to do the least possible to get the job done to become an NP…we may be taking many of the NP jobs from you.
Why? Would an employer rather have a “seasoned” RN w/ PEDS AND critical care experience who is humble & puts pt safety first?
Or, an RN who “went ALLLL the way through” or has practiced very little?
The experienced RN, FNP is taking your job 10 x’s outta 10. Unless you find an employer that just wants a body there to meet quotas. They’ll pay REALLY cheap (u might think it’s a lot. hint, hint, it’s not worth it. You’ll be treated w/ very little regard or professionalism). It will just make you hate the profession.
Remember, the more knowledge & skills you have, the more leverage. You can’t “rush” knowledge & skills, it’s a practice for a reason.
