Hongdian 8041 Metal Fountain Pen Review

The first of 3 pens I received from Hongdian. I LOVE it. Looks fabulous, writes great & has an interesting story. May not be for everybody but is for me.

Few words on the design of the barrel and the engraving on the cap
1) Hongdian 8041 commemorates the two major major rivers out of total four originating in the Tibet Plateau.
2) The rivers are 'Yangtze-Kiang' and HuangHe(Yellow River)
3) The imprint on the barrel of the pen depicts the course of those two rivers as painted by one of the Emperors of Shang Dynasty.
4) The cap bears on it a carving of the mighty waves, whirls and flow of the huge mass of river body.
Last but not the least Sir, the coincidential and most appropriate choice of the shimmering ink by you. Unknowingly you had created a great rhetoric. I am imagining, that, your writings for the journal as the mighty flow of the river and when the caverns of the Sun will fall on the dried up ink it will shimmer as if the golden glory of the rising sun touches the fluvial undulation of Yangtze crating firey ringlets on its surface.

The nib looks wonderful, but the etched design of the pen is.........to each their own. The cap is fine, but the barrel could be plain solid color and still look handsome. The unreviewed black and gold version looks fantastic!

Cool pen. I like the history behind it. Note that Chinese watchmakers like SeaGull also have watches with dials commemorating Chinese geography of historical importance.

The nib works very well. I have found that my recent pens from Hong Dian, Wing Sung and Asvine have all worked excellently. Perhaps they have figured out how to consistently align the tines and smooth out the nib.
I have two Hong Dian metal pens, the N6 and the 100 Anniversary. The latter is a heavy pen for sure. The N6 has weight, too but not as heavy. Both are piston fillers which I like. Perhaps one of the other pens will be, also.

Excellent review, thank you. One question: is the section not slippery? I have a HongDian Black Forest that I do like except that its section is so slim and slippery it is not comfortable to hold. Thank you.

Section is bigger that Black Forest. And it has some texture. I write with the pen regularly and do not find it too slippery. I would not say it is not slippery, but my hands are dry. If you like the pen & nib, I wouldn't let the section dissuade you.

Very reasonable. I use the pen regulary & find the section size OK.

The engraving may be the description of a river and places along that same rive. The swirls may be describing the strong winds of that mountainous region?Just a wild guess. The design is not my cup of tea but I'm sure it's for someone out there. Loved the ink! Thx for the review.
