    You will absolutely not increase top speed with the 14 T front sprocket. You will increase torque in the lower and mid range and get closer to the rev limiter. At top speed you can expect the speedometer to be off as much as 7%. You will need a speedo healer or the Takegawa replacement DN meter (absent using a phone GPS). Check out gear commander's website if you are interested in the facts.

      Apio Thanks for your feedback. How is the phone GPS accurate in a car, but not on the Monkey? That doesn’t make sense. Top speed was for sure increased with this mod as the power in 3rd and 4th became more useable. 4th gear did nothing before the mid. Thanks for watching! I personally found the “% off” varied from 3% to 5% depending on speed. - Kyle

      @@manybikes It’s just under 7% off with the 14t sprocket (you’re taking 1 tooth out of 15, which means you’re reducing your actual speed by 1/15th, or 6.67%). If 60 mph is indicated, you’re actually doing about 56. Multiply your indicated speed by 0.93 to get your actual speed.

      Sorry Apio... I have changed sprockets on my new Monkey, an original Honda z50, multiple CT70’s...and my speed measured before and after via a GPS has been increased on every single one of them. 100% a fact.

      Look at the monkey horsepower curve. Getting closer to the rev limiter (although in 4th you're still nowhere near close) is the whole point, the (stock) monkey doesn't make full horsepower until it's at least 5500rpm. Stock sprocket doesn't put you there.

    Picking up a speedo-healer (like the SRD-H9) is an easy install to correct that speedometer. You're right, the 14T will help get you a bit more power to the wheel throughout the powerband, but you're not going to see a lot of help on the top end with this alone. The monkey will definitely want to pull off the line a lot quicker with that smaller sprocket, though.

      Unknown Overland it was installed AFTER I installed the Yoshimura Race Series Pipe - that helped for sure!

    There is one thing to watch out for, more speed means less thrust and vice versa. This is an equation from which there is no escape.

    Hi nice test ! Did you test the real speed with GPS ? Changing the front sprocket does change the speed on the odometer… On my
    Grom I changed for a 16 front sprocket : I reach the same final speed but 1000 rpm lower !

      Yes, on GPS. Super fun!

    great video sir, the results surprised me. did you verify that 69mph with your phone?

    • @manybikes
      @manybikes  4 роки тому +3

      Yes I did! Both via my phone and a Garmin GPS. NOTE: I am also running the Yoshimura Race full system... That helps!

    Newbie rider here trying to understand. The original Sprocket is 15T and you changed to 14T. That will increase higher top end speed but you will lose some torque (assuming every things else is stock). Is my understanding correct?

      @manybikes  4 роки тому

      Francis Ho thanks for watching! Actually the monkey 15T to 14T to gain top speed is NOT typical. Here is a video I made with my friend Travis that really breaks it down: ua-cam.com/video/3jGdmbq6Ajw/v-deo.html With the Monkey I wasn’t able to use all the motor power in 3rd gear and 4th acted as an overdrive. Lowering the gearing on the monkey allowed 3rd and 4th to have more torque and allowed it to use the power. - Kyle

    Is it ACTUALLY going that fast? I installed this front sprocket, definitely accelerates WAYYY faster, but I'm not sure the top speeds are accurate.

      GPS had me tracked at 3mph less. So... Right at 70ish. Super fun!

    I wonder if a similar mod is available for a Yam XT250? I would love a higher top speed, plus it would be nice if my bike could actually have a lower minimum speed in first. It is hard to creep along on the 250 when I need to.

    • @manybikes
      @manybikes  4 роки тому

      For sure! The creeping would require this Mod and the higher top speed would require a Mod in the opposite direction. Thanks for watching!

      loadblock49 what!? Going 50mph when the throttle is pinned open? Yes... it was a test of patience commuting daily 50 miles on the Monkey. Knowing the 1 hour 10 minute +/- ride could be 20 minutes on the “big bike”... it was fun though!!!

    I wonder why there is such a disparity between top speeds people are getting on these. I’m 6’ 210lbs and mine does 60mph stock.

    Isn’t the speedometer no longer accurate after a gear change?

    • @dancoleman1269
      @dancoleman1269 4 роки тому

      I guess that would depend on where the speed sensor receives its data source (or input). If coming from the rear wheel, it would still be accurate.

    • @manybikes
      @manybikes  4 роки тому +2

      Yes. Ian get the speedo yo to 72 mph while my GPS speed reads mid to high 60’s. It’s only off like 3 to 5% - and that varies on speed.

    • @dancoleman1269

    Do you have to update the speedo ???

    • @manybikes
      @manybikes  2 роки тому

      Yes. An update to the speedo will give you a correct reading. I was able to get it to roll 72 mph via GPS speed readings.
