    Your Ranger looks brand new underneath. What a difference when your not in the rust belt. Nice, you don't have the plastic housed emergency brake setup. Good job! 👍🏼🐶🙂

    Many people forget the cooling system flush. The combination of aluminum cylinder heads and cast iron blocks turns the coolant acidic over time.

    • @BeardedFordTech
      @BeardedFordTech  Рік тому +3

      Correct. Which is why I did a drain and fill. Then added distilled water to get most of it out. Still had some orange in it when I was done. But won't hurt anything. Ford replaced orange with the new yellow/greenish. Mine had orange. It was right after mine was built they changed it.

      @@BeardedFordTech SAAB used green low silicate coolant. You would see a chalky buildup in the system. An independent SAAB tech who ran a shop in Greensboro NC ran Mercedes Benz coolant. I switched to the MB coolant and no longer had chalky buildup.

      @@mlieser1230 yeah is the chemical reaction when it turns acidic. A lot of people think. Well it has fluid. It's good. If they even check the fluid.

    Do you usually run the heat before changing it too? I remember most of my old cars called for that so the heater core is open and you drain the coolant from inside.
    Seems like this engine is bit harder then most to change the coolant. Gonna try with a vaccum filler I think.

    Not sure if Amsoil makes a radiator flush, but would you recommend using one? I was thinking of draining the coolant first, then refill with distilled water with the flush, then finally fill up with coolant again after draining that stuff out

    • @BeardedFordTech
      @BeardedFordTech  Рік тому +3

      They don't have a flush but it wouldn't hurt to do so. Especially if it's older and never been done. I did put distilled water in and flushed it. I didn't run it long. Just enough to circulate. There is still a little orange in it. Ford changes their orange to the new yellow/green. Looks like yellow gatorade. That little bit of orange in there won't hurt. If you don't use a flush. Fill it with distilled water run it for 10 min or so and drain. Then fill with new coolant

      That is how you fill it. There is no radiator cap. It's called a cross flow cooling system. Good attention to detail though. Guess I should have said that in the video.

    Hey man, was looking to do this on my 2019 Ranger, I watched another video where it seemed like he followed the correct steps but his temp gauge was stuck on high and his truck was in limp mode, not sure if it was the coolant he used, but he had to take it to a shop to get a vacuum drain and fill, could you please maybe explain a little more as to why this could have happened to him? Just trying to avoid any extra troubles down the line, thanks.

    • @BeardedFordTech
      @BeardedFordTech  5 місяців тому +3

      He had air trapped in the system. That's why I filled it to the line. Let it run. Top it off. Drive it make sure it doesn't overheat like in the video. Bring it back to shop. Let it cool. Then add to the max line. Works everytime. He had air trapped. That's why he had to get a vacuum fill. I've never had a problem draining and filling like I did in this video on any ranger I've worked on including mine. Feel free to email me and I can walk you through it step by step.

    You purge the air by removing the cap? Theres no valve that you uncrew like the older carts

    • @BeardedFordTech
      @BeardedFordTech  6 місяців тому +1

      Nope. No purge screw. Usually I vacuum fill like the manual says. Just didn't have it with me. Where you pull a vacuum on it then turn the valve the opposite way and it pulls coolant into the system. When I don't do that I fill it to the full mark. Start it. Let the pump circulate it. Fill it to the full mark. Cap.it then go for a drive to burp air. Bring it back let it cool then fill it to the correct mark. I know the dodge 3.6 has a purge screw. Just unscrew it. Fill it with coolant till it a stream comes out then your good.

    • @BeardedFordTech
      @BeardedFordTech  Рік тому +1

      Make sure coolant is going through the heater core and getting heat. If you don't get heat then your coolant level is low and your pushing air into the system

      @@brianalvarenga8533 correct 💯. Let it get to operating temp so the thermostat is fully open. Then let it sit and cool enough to open it and make sure it's at the full mark. The full mark indicated that it is full when cold. If you fill it to that while it's hot when it pressurizes again it will be over full. At normal operating temp the fluid level should be between "Min" and "Max" marks
