What an amazing player this guy is. Saw SRV twice, once when (we learned later) he was using heavily and it was quite sloppy, and once when he was sober and it was incredible. Had a big spinning Leslie cabinet on stage with him and the swirling when it ran was visceral as it threw sound over the crowd. Really fantastic feel on the playing and I'd say you've perfected it here. Well done.
Wow man, that’s a big compliment. I surely appreciate it! I saw Stevie a few times back in the day myself. He sounded pretty amazing before and after his recovery when I saw him. I actually only saw him once post recovery, here in Nashville, and I guess he prolly was at his best then! It was about 3 months before he died in the chopper crash. Not long after, his keyboard player, Reese Wynan, moved to Nashville for studio work and we became friends. Reese played on many of my demos from my songwriting days! He told me once that the reason he got the Stevie gig was because he was equally fluent on the keyboard in flat keys. As Stevie tuned down to Eb, turns out that was a pretty big deal! SRV was definitely my fave blues guitarist! I appreciate you watching!!
Whenever I try to learn SRV I feel like it takes years of playing in that style before I'm gonna really be able to play it smoothly and effortlessly. Thanks for the lesson.
@@AmbientMusicStudio I hear you, man. I’ve been trying playing blues since I was a teenager and I still struggle from time to time! Thanks for watching!
Nice to see (and hear) a very accomplished guitarist who is also very humble. Thank you for all the time and effort you put into your vid to help us understand and learn this SRV Tune. Cheers from Canada PS love your tone!
This is one of my holy grail songs, and i see now i have more work to do. I thank you for keeping me humble, SRV would be proud of you, keep up the good work
You’re too humble this lesson sounds fantastic and deserves way more attention, this is the perfect pace and amount of detail for anyone trying to learn this tune and you have a great narrator’s voice
nice, I like that you slowed the tempo down a bit. I get over obsessed with trying to play these songs at the original temp and it slows my progress. This video has given me permission to just play songs like this a bit slower.
Ha! I hear you man! Same here;) For this one, I actually borrowed someone else's backing track. I actually thought it was the original tempo. I imagine they probably averaged the tempo from the SRV record or just decided to use the tempo at the top of the song. They didn't have click tracks when SRV cut these songs (I doubt he would have been interested in using one anyway;), the result being songs were never one consistent tempo throughout. I kinda miss that in modern music. Loses a lot of the soul. For my Scuttle Buttin' breakdown I used a backing track from the same guy and I definitely slowed that track down in Logic Pro several bpm. I just couldn't play it that fast!!
Great job . Merci beaucoup pour ce super cours je ne comprends pas très bien l'anglais mais les images sont excellentes. Thanks so much for watching! Strings are D’Addario XL10 as I recall. I know they are a gauge 10 set. I’m playing through a plugin called THU Overloud here I believe. It’s most likely a Fender amp model w a Tube Screamer pedal modeler as well!
@@thelion27 Hey bro, just to be clear, all I'm using is the amp modeler plugin, in my Logic Pro daw. The modeler has the Fender amp model and Tube Screamer model in it! I do have real Fender amps and some really old Tube Screamers as well. It's just so much easier when recording for a video to use the modelers!! Thanks again man!
🤔So what made you play this in E standard? You sound good 👍. So just what is the real difference in the way Stevie Ray Vaughan play it in E-b flat Tuning? Will all the chords that you showed be all played the same exact way if you had played this song in E flat??????????

Hey Michael, man, I apologize for the late reply! I played in E standard so people wouldn’t have to retune their guitars to learn it. There is no difference in how you play it with it tuned down a half step, other than the strings are easier to bend with less tension on them, as in Eb. I suspect this is one reason Stevie Ray tuned down, as he was known to use really heavy gauge strings. Also of course, Hendrix himself tuned down to Eb;) Thanks brother!
The singing takes this to the next level!!! Great job!
Thank you sir! I appreciate the props!
