Got a cold or the flu? Think you need an antibiotic? Think again! They don’t work on illnesses caused by viruses. The Illinois State Medical Society is reminding patients not to always expect antibiotics from doctors for illnesses where they are not intended.
Antibiotics can save lives, but the inappropriate use leads to the medications being ineffective when they are most needed. Antibiotic resistance is a real problem.
Talk to your doctor. Help reduce the use of unnecessary antibiotics.
