For those of you learning: there’s actually(probably) a thread cutter attached to your machine, so you don’t have to worry about using scissors to cut it when you’re done. 😊 it’s seriously a life saver.
Ikr
My cutter does my head in, I just use my scissors :)
nope, mine doesn't have one 😅
It’s so useful when I drop my scissors and I’m too lazy to pick it up
Wish mine had one!
For those looking in the comments to see if this video is beginner friendly: it TOTALLY is! I have never even touched a sewing machine before. Right now it is 2 am and I am trying to sew the bag thanks to this tutorial. :)
This is honestly the best beginner sewing tutorial I've ever seen. You explained everything so clearly and didn't assume we knew anything - I've watched longer videos that cover less material and they weren't nearly as helpful as this one. THANK YOUUU ♥ Going to attempt that tote bag for my first project!
I am too!!!
I agree, Jenna did a great job, she made it very easy to follow. 👍
I have not seen your utube before. I am an older woman and I have sewn all of my life. I am so impressed with your beginning sewing program. Good job! I will recommend your utube for young people that want to learn to sew. Thank you. Janet in Idaho
Aww you seem so kind
Seriously... THANK YOU FOR THIS! This is the best beginner tutorial I've watched, and I really appreciate you explaining even the smallest things! I'm so excited to start sewing now.
Fantastic tutorial! I watched it yesterday - my very first day of sewing - and about 3 hours after I had learned how to thread the machine, I had already made a smaller version of the tote bag in the video, using an old bedsheet and following along with many pauses and rewinds. Thank you for this great confidence-boosting video!
Love your tutorial! Never sewed or used a machine in my life but you have taken me from overwhelmed to “I can do this.” Thank you sincerely ☺️
I love the way she explains EVERYTHING For beginners, I’ve watched so many videos and could never understand what to do, THANK YOU 🙏
As someone who's barely sewn since 7th grade in junior high (1974!!!), I appreciate your lack of proper terminology and how much less intimidating it makes the process. Don't ya wish they'd simply called the 'good' side the 'outside' to begin with?
Ahhh i have such a love-hate-relationship with my sewing machine!!! Sometimes it just doesn’t work out so my seam ripper is my best friend by now haha
I know the feeling! My moms machine growing up was ALWAYS giving me problems.

O title of beauty, happiness, femininity and wonderful morals, I wish you the happiness of this world and the happiness of the hereafter and that all wishes come true for you.🌼🌻🌼🌻🌼🌻🌼🙏💗
Hint: When you thread your needle be sure your thread is between the slot on the presser foot and not over or wrapped around one of the prongs.
I took sewing classes in high school eons ago and hadn't touched a sewing machine up unti this past year. I forgot how much I enjoyed it. I am so excited that you're doing these videos!
I had the same experience! I had a few years off from sewing while I was in college, and man I forgot how much I enjoyed it when I started again. Good thing is you always come back to it.
Same here!
Thank you so much for this video!! I got a sewing machine for Christmas yesterday, and am a total beginner, but now I already have a tote bag! This video was so clear and helpful, and you helped me find success right off the bat 🙂
My mom got me a sewing machine for my birthday and I haven't used it yet because I didn't know how. Now I do! You explained it so well and I am really excited to make a tote bag!! 🥰
That makes me soooo happy!! ❤️❤️❤️
Good for you, I wish I had have started sewing at a young age. 😉
This is so useful - I'm looking to get a sewing machine but haven't used one for over a decade so my memory of what I might need is pretty fuzzy. Not just a great intro to sewing machines, but also gives a good idea of what features to look for!
This is great. I just got back into sewing over the summer (after like 10 yrs or so). I used to sew from patterns, but now I'm interested in thrift flips. I feel like I have a lot of ideas, but I'm lacking in sewing skills. Real rusty. So I'm really excited for your sew with me series.
I love it! Even though I have sewed already a little bit, I also learned a bit more with this video, thank you sooo much!
Also maybe good to show how the needle goes in the machine if it needs to be changed when broken.
I love this series 😁
You are soooo welcome! Oooo good catch, in a future video!!
I made it! With my own ferret paws! Thank you for posting this lesson! It is so pleasant to learn from you, someone who enjoys sewing. Other yt tutorial hosts begin by saying, "I don't like to sew". This ferret doesn't want to learn a craft from someone who doesn't enjoy it themselves. It's also nice learn it from a younger person, most all the other ppl making sewing vids are old. I appreciate learning from someone closer to my age, I feel like I can relate to you more than an old person. Thank you for all your hard work!
well in reality older people have greater experiences than
the younger ones of course! That's the true reality of life!
You first inspired me to crochet and now i've got a sewing machine for christmas too!! Cant wait to learn with you, thank u for ur videos
You keep saying sorry but your explanation is perfect because it is truly learning how to sew for dummies/ people who have never sewn before and don’t know the proper Termanology this is perfect! My type of tutorial
You keep saying sorry but your explanation is perfect because it is truly learning how to sew for dummies/ people who have never sewn before and don’t know the proper Termanology😭🤣 this is perfect! My type of tutorial
Thank you so much! This made me not only sew my first thing ever but also learn the basics of my machine. You are amazing ❤️
I got my sewing machine for Christmas and I’m finally learning how to use it. This is the only tutorial I found that actually help me. Thank you so much, Jenna.
I haven’t sewn Since 1970 and just one class. But I just bought my first sewing machine at 68 years old(gift) Singer 4432. I need simple, simple, simple projects 😂. Thank you for your detailed tutorials.
thank you 🌸 i had a lovely first experience with you by my side. i used dacron cotton to make a black and white tote bag and now imm excited for more 🥰
Im so happy you made this video! I got a sewing machine for Christmas and have or should I say had no idea how to use it
Instead of zigzagging after having seamed the two pieces together, it is a lot easier to simply zoom all the sides of each piece through the zigzag first. This way there is no need for a backstitch at the beginning or end of the zigzagging.
A demonstrated here the zigzag is sewn part way into the seam allowance and still has some free edge availabpe for fraying. To lock in those edges, it is best to align the fabric so that the needle barely hits the cut edge on the right and into the fabric on the left. This way the free edge is completely encased.
Sewing pins, sewing needles, seam ripper, measuring tape.
That's a better ironing room than mine don't worry its a great sewing lesson for me you're a great teacher. I'm learning for the first time
Thank you so so much for this video! I'v never sewn ever in my life but always wanted to start. I watched your video once, lent a good sewing machine, went to the fabric store yesterday and then I did it. It's been a while since I did sth for the first time without any help, so there were highs and lows... but in the end: my bag is so frking amazing! I had to go shopping at 10 in the evening because I wanted to take this new bag out! I am so proud! :) Thank you so so much. You're video was perfect, I bought everything you said, I needed everything you said and I couldn't be happier.
I’ve been sewing for years and this was really helpful!

Thank you for taking the time to make this video! It helped me so much
Thanks Jenna, this video makes me want to give my machine another try!
What a beautiful process! Thanks for making this video!!!!
Hi!
Just a friendly tip for the chapters in the video to make it easier to find what we are looking for.
Add a chapter that is for threading the machine.
Thank you, was very helpful! ❤
Male 62 from Mel AU, first timer, read the manual, and you have put the icing on the cake. Thank you.
I can’t wait to make my first bag👍🏾Thank you
Obsessed. I love this so much
Hi Jenna, I just found your channel I am a beginner and I am old and learning from you is super fun and easy. You are a doll Thank you for sharing your talent and enthusiasm. :)
You really make sewing more fun:3
I love the cute terminology. This is a fun one. Thanks!
This machine rocks I got five foots and other pieces included I love the buttonhole foot works amazing for button holes so easy to use since I saw singer channel on how to use this machine
I’m so pumped to try this 😁😁
You are a great sewing teatcher.thanx for clear instructions
I made the tote using an old pj shirt and it came out good!
I have a sewing machine but it is very intimidating!! Just looking at it & the idea of threading it... And I had no idea about needing an iron or extra sewing needles. I guess I better get those. Oh and also had no idea about the zigzag stitch either!! I suppose I better find those things! I do have lots of bobbins though & pins, etc. Now I feel relaxed from this video so I will go to sleep as its late. You are very wise with sewing and relaxing too. 😀🌈🍀🌿🌱
so happy i found your videos. your personality is 🔥 and you explain everything so well. going to make my first tote bag soon
Love this!!! Literally got this machine today and this was super helpful!!!! Thank-you!!!
I’m glad I found your channel
I just bought the same sewing machine.... but I definitely need a tutorial on how to use it properly...
Just made my first project using this tutorial! So easy…thank you
i dont know if i missed this; so if you have older sewing machine you have first before you do ANYTHING with it to tighten it because if you dont, the sew will be wrinkly and ugly and not thight
Polyester thread, bobbins, sewing machine needles ( needles don’t last very long they break or dull) universal singer pack, big safety pin, collect your scarp fabrics,
I am 15 mins into your video.. after seeing a number of beginners sewing videos (and believe me I am a complete beginner) I have to say yours is the most fool proof video to help me get started. I just wanted to say thank you for sharing your knowledge. I really like how you explained everything and why (e.g. why you reverse the stitch) as these are mistakes I would quite easily make as a new starter. I was wondering if you planned to make a video on various other stitches and when you would use them? It would be super helpful and I personally like how you explain things!
Eitherway, thank you, thank you. Cant say it enough. I am subscribed and will continue watching the rest 😊👍
That was an amazing and easy tutorial to follow thank you! ❤
This was amazing, thank you! Please continue making content for us newbies 🥲🫶🏼💛
This is the most useful video I've watched thus far. Thank you
I watched your video 1 time and I was able to make the tote. Thank you 😊
At the end of the machine there is a thread cutter for when you finish sewing, I have a similar machine
im fairly a beginner but what i was told was to sew w 1/4 seam allowance. so i was a lil confused when you mentioned you use a 5/8. but overall love your video compared with others,. your instructions are helpfule and very understanding
Wow what a great tutorial, thank you. Im gona binge your videos now
thank you so much this answered all the questions i had and i finally sewed something :DDD!!!

Thank you, Jenna ❤
I checked 2nd hand in my country and for some reason it was more expensive than the usual price. So I already bought a new Singer 4432😊
This was super helpful! Thank you!
This was so helpful!
thank you so much this really helped me!🥰😊
Love it enough said
I made a tote bag toooo!! Thank you Jennna
You are a queen!
The fabric material used in this video seems a difficult one!
But good work! And good luck to me! hahaha
Will you please do more sewing videos? I want to learn how to make the patch work 2nd skin shirts!
Hi Jenna. Thank you for this tutorial. I will be making your tote bag its so cute and so are you. Actually you look just like my younger self. You could be my daughter. I'm happy you are on here teaching how to sew.
God bless!
Gonna do this bc I have no experience thank you!!!
You are a life saver
I just bought the same machine and l was looking for a tutorial for begginers so your video came across very handy, l will follow all your instructions.... wish me luck!!!😂😂😂
I learned a lot from this vid! Thanks!
Great job!
Thankyou you have helped me 🙏
Very good video, very informative. Bravo Girl, make some more. Thank you for sharing.
Ooh Jenna you made my day with the Fiskars skisors (as they are made in Finland) !
Oooo I love them! I also have a matching rotary cutter :)
Thankyou, this was so helpful.
My dream is to become a fashion designer or something like that, i found my grandmas old sewing machine in my basement and decided to start learning tysm for helping me!
thank you for this!
You did an amazing job with the video. Loved the voom voom comment, I call the foot pedal the gas pedal. When you buy bobbins you need to know what size your machine takes there are so many sizes. And Don't cut interfacing with your good scissors.
I’ve been asking my mom and mother in law to teach me how to sew because every time I go to Joan’s or the thrift store for some yarn, I find so many good fabrics and I get so bummed when I walk away because I don’t know what to do with them. Your video went into so much detail I want to attempt making a long sleeve or maybe even a tote bag as my first project. I might use my moms sewing machine just until I build the courage to invest in my own sewing machine. Also I have to find room for it… my husband isn’t going to like this idea😂😂😂 (only because there’s yarn everywhere and now it’s going to be yarn and fabric everywhere)
off topic but your outfit and your room are both so ~aesthetic~
Jenna: "Don't go tooo fast cuz sometimes this thing falls off."
Next scene: *winding super fast :D
This is so helpful! I always forgot how to do all the basic things between every time I wanted to alter something and had to ask my mom to teach me on her sewing machine :D Then I finally bought my OWN a few months ago and have been too lazy to learn again :D Also thanks for the "stuff you need" - I forgot they don't include like anything with the sewing machine, so it's helpful to have a beginner stuff list for going to the craft store!
Love your energy and your videos ❤️
thanks you somuch, please could you make a video about pattern building ?
