Julie Andrews may very well possibly be one of the greatest things to have happened to mankind. Her rendition of "Something Good" alongside Christopher Plummer is certainly one of my favourite moments in film.
It's actually not a rendition. Richard Rogers wrote it specifically for the film along with I Have Confidence. The former is to replace An Ordinary Couple from the original musical while the latter was requested by Robert Wise to take Maria from the abbey to the the Von Trapp residence.
I grew up with the Julie Andrews movie musicals, and knew every song off by heart. "Spoonful of Sugar", "Feed the Birds" and "Do Re Mi" are definitely my favourites! 🎵❣️

I love all the songs from the original "Mary Poppins". The dancing was amazing, too. I watched that movie about a million times when I was a kid. One of my all-time favorites. I watched "Oliver" a lot, too, during that time period. That has a lot of great songs, too. "Annie" is a classic as well.

“Time Warp” deserved to be in the list (and is, imho is a classic,) but there could only be 20, so there you go. I think that “the sun will come out tomorrow” is more iconic in Annie, but that’s splitting hairs. I agree with the general consensus that “somewhere over the rainbow” and “rainbow connection” should be included. There’s just so many great songs from musicals, it’s hard to narrow them down
Walt Disney’s favorite was “Feed the Birds (Tuppence a Bag).” So much so, that he had it played at every meeting. My most catchy song is “Que Sera, Sera” by Doris Day from The Man Who Knew Too Much, not necessarily a musical, but about the most catchy song by a songstress not to even appear on this list. Judy Garland’s “Trolley Song,” from the great “Meet Me In Saint Louis” ought to be number one on this list, at least according to my daughters. Then she tops it off with one of the most memorable Christmas songs of all time, “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” that will make the coldest of souls melt to tears.
Another catchy song from a non-musical movie is Frank Sinatra singing High Hopes from A Hole in the Head. I seem to remember that it's the only "silly song" to win an Oscar
"It's hard to imagine a more fun time than tap dancing with Gene Kelly." I'm pretty sure Debbie Reynolds could list a million more things more fun than that.
Interesting fact about the day they filmed "Singin' the Rain": Gene Kelly was suffering from the flu when he did it. He had a temperature of 103 degrees Fahrenheit. And he still allowed them to get him soaking wet when they filmed it. That's dedication!
DON’T agree with the order, DON’T agree that every song deserves to be in there, BUT… DON’T stop producing such joyful and entertaining compilations. Well done!
The Sherman Brothers were geniuses Calamity Jane and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers should have been on the list Fred Astaire - It's a boater, not a top hat Fun Fact: Topol had a fever temperature of almost 100C during "Rich Man" and Gene Kelly in "Singin' In The Rain"
You characterize A Spoonful of Sugar" as lovely and healing. Healing, perhaps, cheery? Certainly, even sprightly. But for lovely from that film - "Feed the Birds". _That_ is lovely.
How's about these songs be classic and catchy from movie musicals: 1. Movin' Right Along- The Muppet Movie (1979) 2. The Happiness Hotel- The Great Muppet Caper (1981) 3. I'm Gonna Always Love You- The Muppets Take Manhattan (1984) 4. Hosanna- Jesus Christ Superstar (1973) 5. Let's Hear it for the Boy- Footloose (1984) 6. Hot Patootie (Bless My Soul)- The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)
Súpercalifragilisticexpialidocious is the iconic and awesome catching song ever of Marry Poppins when we can see Mary Poppins and his friends song the classic and iconic in the movie

my great granny introduced me to musicals anytime i'd visit her(she lived right behind me) the majority of the time she'd be watching a muscial of some sort. She died a year ago, I miss you and love you granny.
Yeah will always be my favorite. I used to watch it over & over. Lol. I think they should've had "Moses" on a list. Love that song/scene. But yeah whenever it rains I end up "Singin' in the rain". Lol. And some of my friends who aren't into musicals even know that one.
20. 0:56 - Steppin' Out With My Baby - Easter Parade 19. 2:26 - I Could Have Danced All Night - My Fair Lady 18. 3:45 - Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - Chitty Chitty Bang Bang 17. 4:58 - New York, New York - On the Town 16. 6:08 - Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend - Gentlemen Prefer Blondes 15. 7:40 - Don't Rain on My Parade - Funny Girl
A great list. Rita Moreno is an EGOT winner (Emmy, Oscar, Grammy, Tony) one of only 16 in history. She sizzles in "America." Of course, there is nothing like Gene Kelly singing in the rain. I'm not sure how Audry Hepburn got on the list with a dubbed in voice when there are singers like Barbara Streisand.
Calamity Jane! Such a great movie musical, and who could go past "Anything you can do I can do better". Seven Brides for Seven Brothers also has some great songs which deserve a place on the list.
Trolley Song is on a CD my dad has and it is one of the first songs I remember ever hearing. I love it. I love all these songs though! Chitty Bang Chitty Bang, Mary Poppins, My Fair Lady, Wizard of Oz, Meet Me In Saint Louis, Sound of Music, Annie, Grease.....so many others have got such great songs that I’ve heard all my life. Singin in the Rain....Some of the movies I haven’t even seen but I know the music.
@@manuelorozco7760 Do you know the cast? Who’s gonna play Rita? She’s half the fun in the movie, if she’s cast wrongly the movie is gonna turn into another Cats.
Let's see, whats songs are missing from this list....... Oklahoma - Oklahoma Getting to Know You - The King and I Feed the Birds - Mary Poppins Cell Block Tango - Chicago Suddenly Seymour - Little Shop of Horrors Some Enchanted Evening - South Pacific You've Got to Pick a Pocket or Two - Oliver I was Born Under a Traveling Star - Paint Your Wagon and so so many more...........
I'm amazed that none of the songs from The Music Man didn't make it! Also, "Sobbin' Women" from Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is a really good one too! You could have left Grease off, though I love it too. It's from the late 70s and isn't really a "classic" like the others. Alot of people forget about The Unsinkable Molly Brown too.
Love musicals...Favorites from the list: “Don’t Rain on My Parade,” “I could have danced all night;” “Hard knock life.” “I’ve got Rhythm” “Ease on down the road;” I would add “Hello Dolly,” “Before the Parade Passes by,” and “People” - all personal faves
I love the Fiddler on the Roof. My mom did too when she was alive. She says that the scene where Tevye’s last daughter elopes with a non Jewish man reminds of how she and my dad eloped at the courthouse on January 28th, 1987.
I've seen most of these movies. My aunt made sure I knew all the classic movie musicals when I was a kid. I'm surprised there is nothing from Cabaret on here. Liza Minelli was so good!
I was wondering all through the list whether they'd pick Bless Your Beautiful Hide, Going Courtin' or the Sobbin' Women... and they didn't pick any of them?!
Thanks for including Consider Yourself. Jack Wild was nominated for an Oscar for his portrayal of the Artful Dodger, and his enthusiasm in this number shows why.
CY deserves to be on this list and I knew it was the one they were going to pick from Oliver! But personally the song I get stuck in my head most is Oom Pa Pa
I cannot believe it either. I would have put that at number one. I even love how its infectiousness is acknowledged in-universe. It starts out with two guys singing in a storeroom, and next thing you know, the ENTIRE FREAKING TOWN has joined in and is parading down the streets along with them.
From Easter Parade, I would say "A Couple of Swells" is more memorable than "Stepping Out" - My Fair Lady "The Rain in Spain" - Hello Dolly "Hello Dolly". But with 20 or even 30 songs, you could never truly get all the greats.
We’re off to see the wizard in The Wizard of Oz 1939 is the prettiest and awesome catching song in them all the time in the universe of The Wizard of Oz
The most catchy song in Mary Poppins is " Spoonful Of Sugar"- it is sung by Mary Poppins(Julia Andrews) and the children is the best, most memorial scene in the movie, and it has inspired everything from making medicine, vitamins and foods such as vegetables taste better to making chores more fun, it even inspired a box of candy sold exclusively at Disney Parks, featuring Mary Poppin's picture and the catchy words " Just a mouthful of candy helps the wait time go down" , which is inspired from this catchy song, and could not be more true when waiting in long lines at Disney Parks!
I remember sitting in a digital media film class when we watched meet me in St. louis and the Trolley song started and their was a collective gasp from half the class where people realized that this was where the song came from. It was funny so many knew the song but not the movie title... lol
Cell Block Tango from Chicago There's No Business Like Show Business' titular song I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Out of my Hair from South Pacific Shall We Dance from The King & I ^Definitely need to be in this list
I was also going to suggest "There's No Business Like Show Business" However it is from the musical "Annie Get Your Gun". Another I thought of - "It's a Grand Night for Singing" which is a Rogers/Hammerstein hit song from "State Fair".
So much Gene Kelly... I love it! I would add the stunning Judy Garland singing "Get Happy" in Summer Stock (1950). You hit the bullseye on this video. Thanks!
Musicals I would have included: The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Les Miserables, Muppet Treasure Island (LOL), Pete's Dragon, Phantom of the Opera, and The Producers. If we include modern musicals and movies that just have song and dance numbers here and there, I would also include: The Birdcage, Cry Baby, The Greatest Showman, Labyrinth, Mamma Mia, Moulin Rouge, Pitch Perfect 1-3, Rock of Ages, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Selena, Spice World, and Teen Witch.
Thank you for including songs from the classic musicals of the 40s and 50s. I grew up watching these on TV and too many lists today forget these oldies but goodies.
I never though of America as a SUPER popular catchy song but when I thought about it, I literally would go around my school hallways in first grade singing and humming this all the damn time. Perfect choice.
This must've been a tough list to compile, cuz I can think of a ton more: "Trouble" & "Wells Fargo Wagon" from The Music Man, "All That Jazz" from Chicago, half of the Jesus Christ Superstar sound track, "Impossible!" from Cinderella . . .
This is why my passion is for singing. The originals are what made me want to try out singing and dancing, and now I'm better than I was before. Whoever reading this remember follow your dreams and never give up. Also, great video, I'm subscribing!
My wife and I do karaoke because we grew up with musicals. She is from Manhattan, and I was a military brat whose father worked at embassies as a military translator and analyst, so I went to private schools with the embassy kids. We got a huge amount of cultural exposure all over the map. But we got plenty of Gilbert and Sullivan, Rogers and Hammerstein, Rogers and Hart, etc et al, ad infinitum, and so on and so forth. Ballet and opera and Shakespeare festivals and everything from country to classical. We were made as familiar with Flatt and Scruggs as we were with Aaron Copeland and Arthur Fiedler. So I got a formal education. But they insisted on balance, hence blues and bluegrass got equal billing. Jazz and rockabilly got the same treatment. And comedy through the ages was actually a course of study. The feeling was that if you cannot learn to laugh at yourself, you were not well balanced. And languages and singing were taught. Even if you could not carry a tune with matching luggage, you still had to learn HOW to sing. Our music teacher would also look for those people that would perform in one of our four annual plays/musicals. I played Linus one year in You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown. It was fun. We enjoyed doing stuff like that.
I remember singing the song from the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang movie when I was in the UAE and went to the The International School of Choueifat - Sharjah in Dubai. In that class we had a song test in both the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang song and My Grandfathers clock. We performed those songs to our parents later to a great aplause. But that is the first time I have performed in a group ever, but I have loved the song ever since.
As much as I love "I could of danced all night", the most catchy song in My Fair Lady is "I'm getting married in the moring". Also where is "You got trouble" or "Shapoopi" from The Music Man.
@@petereggers7603 For me, the My Fair Lady soundtrack is one of those soundtracks where every song is an absolute winner. The same goes for South Pacific, and probably a few others as well that I can't think of off the top of my head.
Grease is my absolute go to feel good film! You can not watch that movie without it lifting your mood!! From my dad whose not really a musical person, to my 6 year old nieces, we all love it! 💕

"Meet Me in St. Louis" is my favorite film, so you and your daughters have really good taste.
Another catchy song from a non-musical movie is Frank Sinatra singing High Hopes from A Hole in the Head. I seem to remember that it's the only "silly song" to win an Oscar
@@LJB103 Unless you count "Talk to the Animals" from *Dr Dolittle* (1967).
@@oliverbrownlow5615 Not really a silly song. It describes what Dr Dolittle does. There are animals but no ants moving plants or rams moving dams.
"It's hard to imagine a more fun time than tap dancing with Gene Kelly."
I'm pretty sure Debbie Reynolds could list a million more things more fun than that.
Debbie Reynolds and LOTS of people who worked with him can probably think of something more fun as well, from what I've heard...
@@Justin-tx9bq Agreed.
Debbie Reynolds said the two most difficult things she ever did was giving birth and being in Singing In The Rain.
Debbie Reynolds once said the 2 hardest things she ever did in her life was to dance with Kelly and to give birth. 😄

Interesting fact about the day they filmed "Singin' the Rain": Gene Kelly was suffering from the flu when he did it. He had a temperature of 103 degrees Fahrenheit. And he still allowed them to get him soaking wet when they filmed it. That's dedication!
What? No Little shop of horrors? How could you not have that on this list!
Exactly!
You’re so right!
Little Shop was 80's.
@@brizvegasboy It's a classic now!

BUT…

Well done!
The Sherman Brothers were geniuses
Calamity Jane and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers should have been on the list
Fred Astaire - It's a boater, not a top hat
Fun Fact: Topol had a fever temperature of almost 100C during "Rich Man" and Gene Kelly in "Singin' In The Rain"
You characterize A Spoonful of Sugar" as lovely and healing. Healing, perhaps, cheery? Certainly, even sprightly. But for lovely from that film - "Feed the Birds". _That_ is lovely.
"You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile" from Annie is frowning
Love that song!!!!
I actually like that one more, I sing along to it every time. Let's go to the movies is really good too!
This and Tomorrow r perfection incarnate
That’s the one that always gets stuck in my head.
I think Feed The Birds from Marry Poppins should at least be on an honourable mention on this list. It’s a classic!
I was thinking the same thing then I read your comment!

How's about these songs be classic and catchy from movie musicals:
1. Movin' Right Along- The Muppet Movie (1979)
2. The Happiness Hotel- The Great Muppet Caper (1981)
3. I'm Gonna Always Love You- The Muppets Take Manhattan (1984)
4. Hosanna- Jesus Christ Superstar (1973)
5. Let's Hear it for the Boy- Footloose (1984)
6. Hot Patootie (Bless My Soul)- The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)
Yes! Someone else who mentioned Muppet Movies! I added “Rainbow Connection “ as my favorite even if it’s not catchy.
Damn happy someone mentioned the Rocky Horror Picture Show!
I would add "Pinball Wizard" from Tommy ... surprised it wasn't on the list.
Although I love it, I don't think I would consider footloose a musical.
I was lucky to see Fiddler on the Roof with Topols last year of performing. Amazing !
my mom is OBSESSED with The Wizard of Oz and I'm fine with it.
"The Sound of Music" will always be an essential classic!
Súpercalifragilisticexpialidocious is the iconic and awesome catching song ever of Marry Poppins when we can see Mary Poppins and his friends song the classic and iconic in the movie
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious was a favorite of mine and it has been for years, I never forgot the song since I was younger and it will always be glued in my head
Same here, but I actually prefer the Latino version! I just find it more catchy!
The dad from the Sound of Music movie recently passed away 😭
Christopher Plummer. He won an Oscar in his late 80’s!

Yes, at the age of 91. He was from my hometown of Montreal.
Christoper Plummer's voice was dubbed or enhanced on Sound of music I think
@@emmyjorgeguineve7033 You sadly need to follow that up with John 5:29, because Christopher in interviews stated he was an enthusiastic sinner for most of his life, and also an adulterer. Everyone will indeed be raised, but not all to glory....

Yeah will always be my favorite. I used to watch it over & over. Lol. I think they should've had "Moses" on a list. Love that song/scene. But yeah whenever it rains I end up "Singin' in the rain". Lol. And some of my friends who aren't into musicals even know that one.
And Good Mornin' from the same film.
I love ALL THOSE MUSICAL CLASSICS!! So beautiful and timeless, and magical
20. 0:56 - Steppin' Out With My Baby - Easter Parade
19. 2:26 - I Could Have Danced All Night - My Fair Lady
18. 3:45 - Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
17. 4:58 - New York, New York - On the Town
16. 6:08 - Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend - Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
15. 7:40 - Don't Rain on My Parade - Funny Girl
There are a number of others who have won three and either have or have not been nominated for the fourth. Mostly they are missing the Grammy.
I think that the video is about the song so a dub really shouldn't change the rating.
Now there are 17 EGOT Winners - Jennifer Hudson won her first Tony Award in 2022.
Calamity Jane! Such a great movie musical, and who could go past "Anything you can do I can do better". Seven Brides for Seven Brothers also has some great songs which deserve a place on the list.
YES!!!!!
Sobbin Women and Goin Courtin are my faves
"Anything you can do I can do better" is from Annie Get Your Gun
Trolley Song is on a CD my dad has and it is one of the first songs I remember ever hearing. I love it. I love all these songs though! Chitty Bang Chitty Bang, Mary Poppins, My Fair Lady, Wizard of Oz, Meet Me In Saint Louis, Sound of Music, Annie, Grease.....so many others have got such great songs that I’ve heard all my life. Singin in the Rain....Some of the movies I haven’t even seen but I know the music.
For me it's always been Rainbow Connection. I've loved that song since I was 6
Rita Moreno is why West Side Story is remembered today.

honorable mention to "Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life" from in the 1979 film Monty Python's Life of Brian
That's such a good song. I've never seen the movie but that song is iconic.
@@adamslater7486 exactly !!! the song became famous outside the movie & for me quite a Motto for life .
But, LoB wasn't a musical.
The Sound of Music hands down!! Whenever I watch the film, Do Re Mi gets stuck in my head for the entire day 😂
When ever I’m sick it’s always sound of music. Now I’m 73, I don’t think that will change. But I love many of these pics.

Over the rainbow
Or feed the birds
Sound of music. Marry Poppins. Oliver. Annie.. Wow delightful childhood memories.... We knew every song as kids.. Way back.
All the songs are the most very iconic and awesome catchiest ever songs in the history of Music and movies
Love musicals...Favorites from the list:
“Don’t Rain on My Parade,”
“I could have danced all night;”
“Hard knock life.”
“I’ve got Rhythm”
“Ease on down the road;”
I would add “Hello Dolly,” “Before the Parade Passes by,” and “People” - all personal faves
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers should be on this list.
I completely agree!
Bless your beautiful hide! I agree.
Sobbing’ women.
I was wondering all through the list whether they'd pick Bless Your Beautiful Hide, Going Courtin' or the Sobbin' Women... and they didn't pick any of them?!
Absolutely!

Not necessarily.

That's true too.
It isn't very catchy. I love the movie, I like the music, I adore We Kiss in a Shadow... but they aren't catchy. More memorable and beautiful.
Indubitably!! This one is a winner!
Aw, "Put On Your Sunday Clothes" is not even an honorable mention. It was so catchy, Pixar used it for Wall-E.
YES I WAS GONNA SAY THAT
Anything from Hello Dolly is catchy and memorable.
I cannot believe it either. I would have put that at number one. I even love how its infectiousness is acknowledged in-universe. It starts out with two guys singing in a storeroom, and next thing you know, the ENTIRE FREAKING TOWN has joined in and is parading down the streets along with them.
Glad to see The Music Man on a list for once. Definitely a fun movie.
Let's Do The Time Warp Again! definitely, and Good Morning As Well.

It was funny so many knew the song but not the movie title... lol
No "Tomorrow" from Annie or "Over the Rainbow" from The Wizard of Oz?? That's messed up!
Or no the music of the night from the phantom of the opera

There's No Business Like Show Business' titular song
I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Out of my Hair from South Pacific
Shall We Dance from The King & I

I was also going to suggest "There's No Business Like Show Business" However it is from the musical "Annie Get Your Gun". Another I thought of - "It's a Grand Night for Singing" which is a Rogers/Hammerstein hit song from "State Fair".
I agree with the first three. Also O What a Beautiful Morning from Oklahoma.
