There are three unrelated photographs in the video. The first of these has Joshi along with Shyamal Bose on the tabla at Rabindra Sadan, Calcutta at the 1977 Haafiz Ali Khan Memorial Music Festival. The second shows Joshi with a couple of other people, at least some of whom are musicians; I cannot identify all of them, but one can find Madhav Gudi, Eknath Thakurdas and Chandrakant Kamat among them. The third photo again has Bhimsen Joshi, his second wife Vatsalabai Joshi, his guru-behen Gangubai Hangal and his guru-bhai Firoz Dastur, among others, in front of a photograph of their guru, Sawai Gandharva.
The people between Vatsalabai and Gangubai are Sawai Gandharva's daughter (I forget her name) and son-in-law, Dr Nanasaheb Deshpande. ( He was Vasantrao too, but is rarely referred to by that name to avoid confusion with the other Dr Vasantrao Deshpande.)

Ranjan ji, do check out the Community Tab of this channel. A while ago, I shared on it a post which has links to three mehfil renditions (9 min each) of Ustad ji! These were shared by Mukesh Narang ji and recorded by his granddad.
Very nice upload. This is pure gem. What an amazing Darbari and the chota khyal taans simply take the listener to a different world. These seem to be from 1950s or very early 60s
Bhimsen ji Is performing Raag Sudhha Kalyan . One of the masterpieces and the most favourite raaga of Pandit ji. At that time Bhimsen ji was called as King of “Raag Sudhha Kalyan “ . Raag Suddha kalyan Creates pleasing atmosphere. One can find it bit Devotional as it has shade of Raag Bhoop .
From the photograph as shown against this post it is clearly established that the Tabla accompanist's name is Late Shamal Bose, from Calcutta, an extremely renowned artist in the Hindustani Classical Music World of the yester years. He was one of the most favourites of the Late Ustad Amir Khan Sahib Ji because whenever he used to visit Calcutta he used to call for Shamal Ji for his accompanyment during his renditions.
What a superb Darbari too. Interestingly enough, Bhimanna has kept the Sam on the Komal Gandhar instead of the lower Komal Dhaivat as heard in his later recordings of Darbari. I also have heard another Darbari from Bhimsenji's early years with Purshottam Kapila on the vocal support and there too, the Sam was on Komal Gandhar.
What an amazing upload, Farhan bhai! I am pretty sure, I can hear Pt. Ramkrishna Patwardhan providing able vocal support here. The tabla sounds so much like that of Pt. Chandrakant Kamat. Also, the man in the group photo standing second from the right seems to have been a disciple of Bhimanna's. He is seen in the New York State Department documentary on Bhimanna's music as seen here: ua-cam.com/video/V6F2cdRrlqU/v-deo.html This photo was apparently taken post-concert in Belgaum. Anyone with a greater insight is most welcome to comment on this.
I had an impression that the photo is taken at Dr. Gokhale's resi. after the concert and looked for my grandfather in it but couldn't find him. My grandfather - Pt. Vitthalrao Sardeshmukh. This was because, in those days they were quite close and he used to accompany often on Samvaadini. The tone and style of samvaadini accompaniment in this recording seems very similar to my grandfather's samvaadini playing. Also the scale...E3. and here is another link : ua-cam.com/video/vF96Yf0mnTo/v-deo.html This link has 2 docu's made by the same person - Canadian film maker James Beveridge. 2nd part, which features Bhimsenji might be a tad bit better quality version of the docu mentioned by Pankaj. At 34.49 in this version of the video, we see the face of Thakurdas ji. Same as in the photograph (2nd image in this video) besides Kamat ji. Once again...Many Many thanks for this gem of a concert!
@@Swaroop.V.Sardedeshmukh Thanks for your information. I understand that Vitthalrao Sardeshmukh ji was a disciple of Sureshbabu Mane ji of Kirana Gharana. Also, he was the father of Vijay Sardeshmukh ji who was Kumarji's disciple. What a blessed association! Could you please share a picture of Vitthalrao ji and direct us to some of his recordings on UA-cam?
May I know the source of group photo at 52 mts, it is not connected with this photo. It is a group of music lovers of Mangalore. Person sitting on left in Mr. Madhava Kini and next is Ramanna. If you have any more photos with these gentlemen kindly upload.
I forget the source now. But similar photographs of musicians of yesteryear are scattered throughout this short biographical film on Chandrakant Kamat: ua-cam.com/video/L_aPD8vKsg0/v-deo.html.
Yes, I usually do that. Here, however, since I uploaded the entire concert as a single 'video', putting all the name would have made the title rather verbose. The piece names and their time stamps would be mentioned in the description and in the pinned comment. Perhaps it'd be easier to locate if it were remembered as 'Evening concert at Dr Gokhale's Residence, 1960'.
Could Farhanji or other experts shed some light on the possible Carnatic music influences heard in Panditji's extended rendition of the Natya Geet (right after the Shuddha Kalyan) in this particular recording?
Ekdum sahi! There does seem to be some Carnatic influence (although in the limited exposure i have had to Carnatic musicians, they never seem to think that Hindustani renditions of Carnatic ragas are ever Carnatic enough :p). This Carnatic influence can be heard in a few select pieces of BSJ, such as his 'Chandrika hi janu', 'Sursukhkhani tu vimla', 'Ugich ka kanta', 'Sriniketana palayamam' (perhaps also the two Jogiya pieces he sings) and this can perhaps be traced to Abdul Karim Khan.
The influence seems to mainly manifest itself in the form of the Carnatic style prefatory alap and also sargams à la Abdul Karim Khan in the middle of the piece. You can check out a 1978 video of his 'Sursukhkhani tu vimla' on Milind Chittal's channel.
It appears that we have Vitthalrao Sardeshmukh on the harmonium and S V Patwardhan on the tabla. Thanks to Bharat Kamat and Swaroop Sardeshmukh for their observations.

This was because, in those days they were quite close and he used to accompany often on Samvaadini. The tone and style of samvaadini accompaniment in this recording seems very similar to my grandfather's samvaadini playing. Also the scale...E3.
and here is another link : ua-cam.com/video/vF96Yf0mnTo/v-deo.html
This link has 2 docu's made by the same person - Canadian film maker James Beveridge.
Pankaj Desai yes! Your are right!

The Tabaliya is Kumar Bose a very well known face!
Shyamal Bose, I suppose, in the photo
May I know the source of group photo at 52 mts, it is not connected with this photo. It is a group of music lovers of Mangalore.
Person sitting on left in Mr. Madhava Kini and next is Ramanna. If you have any more photos with these gentlemen kindly upload.
I forget the source now. But similar photographs of musicians of yesteryear are scattered throughout this short biographical film on Chandrakant Kamat: ua-cam.com/video/L_aPD8vKsg0/v-deo.html.
TABLA MAY BE PT SHYAMAL BOSE

@Farhan Amin... Please mention the raagas when you upload a video. It helps a lot.
@@FarhanAmin1994 sorry I am unable to get your email address. If u can give me here, it will be a great help.
@@FarhanAmin1994 hi
I have mailed you..
Wonderful where was this hiding
And also Ras bhini bhini ya tero.....
