Many singers want to hit higher notes.
However, it's very common that as a vocalist sings higher, they will unconsciously add some muscular tension and strain to their voice.
One of the trademark "sounds" of this tension is sounding a bit like Kermit the Frog.
Today, I'll show my favorite exercises to get rid of this tension and sing more naturally.
I love how you try to help singers no matter the problems they have. Thank you so much.
Thank you for the kind words
Best vocal coach EVER
Hi Ramsey! I started vocal training few days ago. Singing is discouraged in my country because of culture so I couldn't find a coach in real life but I found your videos to be very helpful. I'm a male 18 years old and I can't understand what voice type I am. Redditors told me my vocal range largely depend on my physiology. I thought I'm a low baritone - base because my normal speaking pitch was very low (a3-e3). It really demotivated me to continue training because I wanted to be able to hit higher notes with comfort. I posted about it and someone messaged me and we checked my lowest and highest pitch on the singing carrots website. I can strain to reach f2 before my voice just gives up and a2 without straining. I can reach E4 without strain and the highest note was f5-c6. It was with a lot of strain but that person told me it's because that octave hasn't been developed yet and it'll take practice to perfect it and I'll be able to go even higher. Does that mean I'm a baritone because my normal speaking pitch is lower or a tenor because I can sing high notes even if its with strain? they also told me about how I was speaking wrong (forming words at the back of my mouth instead of front) which slightly helped with the pitch increase. I'd appreciate an explanation! I love you ramsey and thank you if you actually read this.
I'm so glad you found them helpful!
Can I just say that I love the thumbnail! 😂🐸
Thank you! UA-cam seems to disagree, but I'm glad I reached at least one person lol
You have! UA-cam has no taste. It's fabulous! 😃
@ thank you!
I can do lip trills no sweat. So I always do them.
I could never do tongue trills ! I will try more.
Yr a truly great teacher.
Aw, thanks!
When I saw that you had a substitute for lip trills I was excited because I can’t do them. Only to learn that the substitute was tongue trills which I also can’t do😅
Aw crap
This video is so useful! I'm going to try now.
(I love your shirt)
Awesome, I’m glad it helped!
P.S. thanks
That's why when singing high, I always try to relax my tongue tips kept at the bottom of the lower teeth (alveolar ridge) all the time. The moment the tongue retracts that where you begin to constrict and sound like Kermit the frog voice. Thanks for the tongue trills SOVT back pressure exercises to overcome the Kermit voice issues. I hope I got it right for my own singing.
Heck yeah Calvin! One quick thing: the alveolar ridge is at the roof of the mouth, not the back of the bottom front teeth. But I think that trying to focus on keeping the tongue down at the back and bottom of the front teeth at the gum line is a great idea.
I have the opposite problem! I'd love to sing like kermit or do a kermit voice but I don't know how! 😂
Why would you want to do kermit voice?
That has happened to me with some vowels, way back when.🙂
It happens to most, especially at the start!
Hi Ramsey, my favorite coach! I hope you can make a video to clear up the confusion about being told not to sing from my throat. Do we need to consciously activate diaphragmatic support for singing, or does it happen naturally? When you shift between different registers, like chest voice and head voice, is it about changing where the sound is produced? It's small stuff like this that demotivates me to continue vocal training because nothing makes sense.

Saw Kermit the frog voice and thought, "I don't sound like that, I may not watch"; but I'm glad I did as I think I may have learnt something. You described tongue trills and it seems very much like what I would call an uvula trill/vibration, as that is how it feels. A soft palate movement. I hear "tongue trill" mentioned and I visualise that as the tongue tip vibrating, or maybe all of it vibrating. Maybe I've had a wrong understanding for ages, perhaps most don't describe what they mean well enough, and make assumptions about others instinctively knowing ? Or am I going down a wrong path here ?
The tongue trill occurs when the tip of the tongue vibrates against the hard palate, not the soft palate
@ramseyvoicestudio Ah, then I still can't do them then. My tongue is no more keen to vibrate than my lips are. Thanks for the clarification.
@ in simplest terms, you’re “rolling your rs” on pitch

Sir, Can you make a video on Resonance voice. Pretty Please❤
What do you mean by "resonance voice"?
@ramseyvoicestudio I meant how to create perfect resonance in the voice. I have seen people struggling a lot with this.
@ there’s no such thing as perfect and imperfect resonance. There is only what the song calls for. For example, with pop belting, a high larynx and small resonance space is required. For opera, the opposite is true.
@@ramseyvoicestudio Okay. Thanks for clarifying. Thanks for making these videos man, they really helps.
@@Sandesh-sh7ez of course!
1:00, something seemed edited.
Not sure what you mean. I started singing with an open tone, then went towards the Kermit voice
