What a fantastic teacher! Thank you. Im 54 and thought I was stuck with a bad voice my whole life. Last year began practicing religiously every day. Walked into a local open mic place on off hours to see what it was all about. Owner asked me if I wanted to sing a song. There was nobody else there so I felt ok trying my lifelong bad voice out. Your videos make my little Speech Therapist heart happy! Did you know that working on your voice volume & pitch also improve swallowing function? Random fact I’ve picked up working with Parkinson’s and stroke patients! Geek moment: if someone’s voice/throat is painful in the morning, but gets better throughout the day then it is most likely related to acid reflux at night. On the other hand, if your voice feels fine in the morning, but gets more painful/harsh throughout the day, then you’re likely straining your throat to get loud instead of using diaphragmatic breathing (common among teachers).
I've been following your channel for a few days now and you are just fantastic so friendly and you bring so much valuable information, but most of all your English is perfect to be understood by non native English speakers..would definitely enjoy lessons with you 😀 great channel thanks
@@AnaAlvarez-cj2sc That's so funny. In one of his videos I think he mentions pizza is not the ideal food for singers. But doesn't mean you can never have it. Maybe just not right before a performance - lol
Total newbie to singing but been meditating for years so that breathing came easy to me. Ear training tips are top..doing that to your ears...wow! For ear training I've found recording your voice (even if it's on your mobile) is the best, cruelest feedback possible. If you want to check your accuracy or what needs to be worked on in a song, this has become my go to method. You can also download a free DAW and record your voice and then use the analyser to check your accuracy. I've watched a lot of tutorials over the last few weeks and the simplicity and clarity of this one make it outstanding! Thanks so much 🙏
I really appreciate your videos man. I’m a guitar player of a little over a decade & in the last three years I’ve started song-writing & producing from home. After narrowing some things down, the biggest flaw in my voice (and music) is without a doubt my pitch. Hearing you put things in order like this is going to save me so much time and ensure that I really get this album out. Instant Sub! Keep doing what you do!
I have watched sooooo many UA-cam tutorial videos and this is one of the best!! I mainly write instrumental music but want to use my voice within that. This has helped me loads. Really good job. Very informative and very well explained. Thank you
So I had a hearing issue growing up and when it comes to sound I have a whole different way of looking at things. So I really appreciate this video because you go into a lot of explanation of how this works and how that works and how you do this and that really helps me because when I speak I have to think about what my body is physically doing not just oh do this. So thanks!
I’m so happy to have found you by accident! Your voice type lessons answered a lot of my questions as to why I can or can’t sing certain songs. Ive concluded that I may still be soprano. Or maybe mezzo soprano because I can sing Gaga and Amy’s songs pretty good. I had a cancer surgery which involved my larynx, so for 40 years I’ve been struggling to find my new voice type so that it’s not extremely painful to sing.I’ve decided to take voice lessons since I’m retired, but wondered if I could just learn from UA-cam.

Thank you for this video. I've come back to making music after a very long break (nearly 15 years) and my vocals are the biggest disappointment. I didn't know what to do to get better and now I have some things to try.
Ty - I recently discovered your vid's and find you simply delightful! You are so encouraging also. Unfortunately following a blood clot to some major chest vessels, it was with great disappointment I gave up singing 😥 Everything seemed increasingly difficult, i.e., breathing, pitch, hearing... everything! So here I am once again trying to strengthen my vocals and return to my passion of singer/songwriter ♡ I used to thoroughly enjoy singing. But now, there are many days I'm majorly frustrated, yet I'm plugging onward/upward 😏 Ha, I indeed thank you for your demonstrations and all ~ as I attempt to make my vocals the best they can be, consistently and easily. Bless you 🎶🕊
I'm VERY new to playing music and understandings its theory. Now that I finally can play a first song on the guitar and know the lyrics, im trying to sing along. First I need to get a bit more control of my voice and you are an excellent teacher on this department. Now I need a private, sound proof space to engage in these exercises ha! Subscribed. Thanks!
Im trying to sing some 90s songs and this has been very helpful. I had look up how to distort your voice as well so now its all coming together. Thanks I'm gonna come back to this video every now abd then.
Excellent video Matt! Proper vibrato is among many vocal techniques i’ve wanted to know/master for ages! I love how you thoroughly cover the ways in which this is/can be achieved unlike so many other videos that fail to do so & instead focus on mostly irrelevant points & hardly much in the way of teaching how it’s actually done/the secret behind it. (Frustrating!) So this gives me hope that I might be able learn & achieve this to incorporate into my singing repertoire. Music & singing is basically my biggest loves & passions in this world. I’m a relatively good singer, am not tone-deaf & can hold a tune relatively well but I cannot tell you how frustrated, upset and/or absolutely furious I have always been with myself at my vocal ability. I would really challenge any vocal teacher/anyone to convince me I don’t have a “naturally weird” & beyond help singing voice. 2 reasons I’m convinced of this: This weird natural breathiness I have whenever I sing & cannot stop/control which in return greatly affects my ability to project well enough (have strong/proper vocals) 2. Having a severely limited vocal range that forces me to have to resort to using falsetto.. I may be able to improve in small ways but as i say, i’m pretty sure my singing voice is & can only ever be OK at best..
OMG THANK YOU RAMSEY I WAS HAVING ASTHMA AND AFTER I RECOVERED FROM IT,MY SINGING WAS NOT AS GOOD AS BEFORE.I WAS REALLY WORRIED THANK YOU FOR MENTIONING THE WARM UP AND I JUST REALISED I TYPED IN CAPS ._.

Great video. Doing a "back to basics" thing as I recently lost my voice due to strep throat. I haven't been able to sing for 3 months. It's been torture. Last week I gave rehearsal a try and sang for 1 hour. Felt good, but certainly not 100%. This is when I realized, perhaps I should go back to square 1. This was great help.
This video is exactly what I needed! Thank you so much! I need all the help I can get!!! I am hitting the studio in 2 weeks to do vocals on my debut record and need to be ready...
I want take a moment to thank you Matt so much for sharing your video, at the beginning of the day, I didn’t have a voice, but because of people like you I’ve achieved my dream, ( to sing )
You’re a fantastic vocal teacher! Thanks very much! I’m very motivated by your video! I’m a singer but I’ve never actually thought about the technical side of singing! Great enlightenment!
thanks for the free video, its helpful to people who do want to get better at singing but dont exactly have the money to spend on classes! you’re entertaining as well, other videos are too serious for my liking. keep up the great work. also, do you have any tips on how to sing louder? i find myself straining when i try to sing louder
The theory is excellent. I would like to suggest that u insert an exercise that the audience can practice. A demonstration n application of the principles that the student can experience right there n then. U r doing n demonstrating but the students r watching only. Ppl learn more by doing than just merely listening. I hope it helps. Keep up the work
Thankyou sir so much for all this. You know what I am completely on your teaching. And I believe firmly that one day I will achieve my goal of being a singer through your Enormous guidelines ❤️❤️

Thanks Emily!
i would try this i really hope my voice would change on a better one.
it might
Thank you for this video. I've come back to making music after a very long break (nearly 15 years) and my vocals are the biggest disappointment. I didn't know what to do to get better and now I have some things to try.
You can do it!
Ty - I recently discovered your vid's and find you simply delightful! You are so encouraging also.
Unfortunately following a blood clot to some major chest vessels, it was with great disappointment I gave up singing 😥
Everything seemed increasingly difficult, i.e., breathing, pitch, hearing... everything! So here I am once again trying to strengthen my vocals and return to my passion of singer/songwriter ♡
I used to thoroughly enjoy singing. But now, there are many days I'm majorly frustrated, yet I'm plugging onward/upward 😏 Ha,
I indeed thank you for your demonstrations and all ~ as I attempt to make my vocals the best they can be, consistently and easily.
Bless you 🎶🕊
I love his lessons those help everyone sing better
I'm VERY new to playing music and understandings its theory. Now that I finally can play a first song on the guitar and know the lyrics, im trying to sing along. First I need to get a bit more control of my voice and you are an excellent teacher on this department. Now I need a private, sound proof space to engage in these exercises ha!
Subscribed. Thanks!
I used to love singing with the great tenors on record all the best songs are sung by them i reckon
Love a good tenor!
Dude thank you !! I finally know where I'm at 😭😭😭
You have answered all my troubling questions. Thank you.
I am feeling so excited with this teaching
My opinion is, you're an incredible teacher. And I've only found you today. 👏👏👏 bravo.
I found this very helpful thanks
Glad it helped
Dude wow !! Best course online !
Wow, thanks!
Let's start with the basics, breathing when singing. Check out this video:

Sooo easily explained ; natural voice range really valuable 👌
Thanks you so much broader 💕

Wow thanks Noah!
Excellent teachings! Thank you so much! Regards from Brazil!
thanks for watching
Great lesson and practice regime, will be be coming back to this a lot.

Great enlightenment!
thanks for the free video, its helpful to people who do want to get better at singing but dont exactly have the money to spend on classes! you’re entertaining as well, other videos are too serious for my liking. keep up the great work. also, do you have any tips on how to sing louder? i find myself straining when i try to sing louder
here's my lesson on getting some power:

just subbed! great channel! i’ve learned a lot from these kind of videos
Awesome, thank you!
The theory is excellent. I would like to suggest that u insert an exercise that the audience can practice. A demonstration n application of the principles that the student can experience right there n then. U r doing n demonstrating but the students r watching only. Ppl learn more by doing than just merely listening. I hope it helps. Keep up the work
thank you very much for free teaching 🙏God Bless you😇🙏
