Paulie was crazy and a constant mess up, but underneath you never doubted his loyalty and knew there was a heart of gold. This scene should have been included, it's the moment you realize Paulie has always had his regrets, especially over Adrian.
I never understood how Paulie loved Adrian so much yet treated her so terrible? In the original Rocky Paulie was really nasty towards Adrian. It was only after she started dating Rocky that she found her self worth and finally stood up to Paulie in a big way.
"I miss my sister, Rocko...." She misses you too, Paulie. No matter what happened, you're still her brother and you're still Rocky's crazy best friend. We love and miss you, Paulie.

@@BStant23 *All* the Rocky films have been emotional like this. There's always at least one highly emotional scene in each. A shame this one was cut out.
I literally cannot fathom why they cut this out. An extra 3 minutes of the run time is COMPLETELY worth it to have this incredible scene play out. It’s essential to Paulie’s character and pretty important to the film’s overall themes and tone. Possible the worst deleted scene in film history imo.
Then you'd have to restore the sub-plot they cut out related to Paulie living with Rocky and moving out with his girlfriend, associated scenes included so audiences aren't left baffled as to what Paulie's referring too. I understand why the makers decided against the additional content here as it would shift focus away from the focal point of the story, which is Rocky himself. Still, they could've kept this scene and adjusted the dialogue so it's all about forgiveness. Have Paulie ask straight out "You forgive me, Rocko?" after Rocky accepts his friendship and then have them hug to conclude the exchange.
@@emirlsanchos6302 I don’t think it’s particularly confusing at all personally. When I first saw this deleted scene the only context for it I had was the original film. It didn’t take much mental gymnastics to assume that Paulie has a girlfriend, and once lived with Rocky. Even so, I say it’s worth it to put back in the one scene of Paulie saying he was going to move in with his girlfriend to gain this incredibly heartfelt moment of Paulie coming to grips with his past behavior.
"Now you're all I have, and you never let me down, and I treat you bad too. Why do I do that, Rocko?" very good example of what depression can do to someone. I wish they left this in the movie
Anger > all other emotions Anger issues leads to regrets. Constantly living with regret and sadness can lead to depression. Be depressed makes everything seem hopeless and pointless. A vicious cycle to be in.
This is so relatable. I know that they have to cut somewhere, but I also think they should've left this part in the movie. Rocky is more than a sports drama. It's a movie about life.
The Paulie arc here in this scene is HUGE if you remember how he acted in the first movie. BEAUTIFUL. We are going to miss you Paulie, "you were the best"...
I love the shot in the first movie where Adrian is trying to get into the ring, and Paulie lifts the rope so she can sneak past the cop into the ring. If there had been no other Rocky movies, that was Paulie's moment of redemption. This scene, and the earlier scene in this movie where he acknowledges how badly he treated her bookend Paulie's real love for his sister.
I would have thought them making up and him humbly asking Rocky to advertise for him during the fight did that. The Rope thing, plus concern for his friend was just post that.

Agreed, especially since in the final draft, they cut straight from Paulie flipping out over losing his job to him calmly telling Rocky that he has a lot of guts to get back in the ring, but he's going to do fine. There's like no transition from Paulie getting belligerent to Paulie being calm. It may be a little nitpick, but it is distracting.
Been watching Rocky movies since I saw the first one in the early 80's and I was like six years old.. Here I am now 50.. Boy we are all getting old.. I feel you Paulie..
1:23, that's fucking beautiful. Honest fucking truth, Burt Young had me laughing in between shedding tears with that line! Thank you Paulie, for making us all remember the humor and joy through all the rough times! ♥️
This scene has an eerie similarity to a death scene for Paulie. When starts to walk away he's all weepy and emotional - but then pulls himself together emotionally long enough to walk away, into darkness, turning around to tell Rocky that he'll do ok. Paulie flashes "his old self" when he tells Rocky "It takes guts, climbing back into that ring, knowing you're going to take a beating". Delivered with gravity, as if it was his last message ever. 😥😥😥😥
For many years, me and my brother love to make fun of Paulie. We always do a hilarious reenactment of Paulie having his freak outs with Rocky (especially Rocky II), because we always saw Paulie as an ungrateful piece of shit to Rocky. This scene makes me cry, because Paulie understands and acknowledges it and feels so damn guilty about it. Him questioning why didn't he die instead of Adrian hits even harder. This scene makes me realize that despite his faults, he will always have Rocky's back.
This film should have been nominated for an Oscar. Burt Young's performance was brilliant. The fact he didn't get nominated for Best Supporting Actor again for this movie is unbelievable. Same goes for Stallone as Rocky. This film is brilliant and is a great way to cap off the Rocky series.
It's very, very rare that a movie impacts me enough to bring tears to my eyes. This deleted scene does it in about thirty seconds; why they felt compelled to cut it out of the movie is beyond me.
Watching people react to this series of movies again and again, I find myself understanding Paulie more and I feel like his arc is pretty underrated. In the beginning all he ever wanted was getting his due. He hooked Rocky up with Adrian, thought he had to force her to go out with him or she would have used that turkey as an excuse to duck out. He saw them get happy together, felt no gratitude. He let Rocky come to his work to train. He saw Rocky get popular, then rich and famous, he kept trying to help over the years and didn't feel enough gratitude. He would get frustrated and lash out whenever he got drunk because that's how he felt. He didn't think he was a screwup, he thought he was putting himself out there for friend and family and getting nothing from it. Then Rocky V happened, he signed those papers, caused them to lose everything, and after his initial reflex of denial he couldn't escape the guilt and it changed him. He had to look back on his life and question his perspective. So in Rocky V his tune changed, he gave encouragement, he gave good advice, he stood up for them, a lot of times nobody noticed. He still had his opinions, still said some blunt things occasionally but he wasn't the same anymore. And in this movie, he could finally admit that he treated Adrian bad, he lost his job, he's literally down in the dumps but he encourages Rocky all the same. It's not as grand as Rocky's story, it's not as motivating as Rocky's speech to his son, but it's still a bit inspiring to understand that someone like Paulie could change himself a little bit.
Should have kept this one. Really shows another side to Paulie. I was genuinely sad when the character died. This truly does hit home. Grew up watching these sense I was 5. Now I'm 32 and can still relate to these as I keep goin threw life.

should of kept this in the movie. this what of been a turning point to see this side of paulie. maybe not the part about moving to the house because it wouldn't of made sense but the rest was emotional and moving.
They never should've cut this out of the film. This was a moving scene, and it confirmed what everyone knew underneath the bitterness and resentment, and jealousy Paulie had for Rocky and Adrian, deep down he loved them and had a heart of gold. Deep down Paulie was just a good guy that let his pain get the best of him, and deep down Rocky knew this which is why even though Paulie pushed Rocky's buttons Rocky always knew Paulie was a faithful friend, there were moments in all the movies (even Rocky 5) that showcased Paulies good heart.
This is one of the few deleted scenes I wish they’d have kept in the movie, the other major one was the bar scene where all of Rocky’s old friends welcomed him back when he met up with Little Marie. That and this one would’ve tied the movie together so much better.
My favorite thing Paulie has done instead of being there for Rocky during training and being at his corner in his fights, he defended Rocky’s honor at the Diner from Tommy. He’s my favorite side character and he’s such a great friend to Rocky. A brother.
This scene DESERVED to stay in the film. It showed that Paulie had more layers to him than people think and that he truly did love and cared about Adriane and how bad he felt about treating her and Rocky.
@John No it's still 30 years. Paulie was not in Creed (2015) or Creed 2 (2018). His character arc begins with Rocky (1976) and ends with Rocky Balboa (2006).
I don't remember this from the blue ray complete series edition I have but thank you for uploading it. It's like you've helped find a small piece of Rocky in space and time that I've never seen before.
SO unfortunate that this scene was deleted from the movie! Grateful though that it was released so we could watch & experience this emotional moment. The whole movie was an emotional roller coaster for me. It's been YEARS since I've seen it but remember the tears that flowed and the emotional hold it had on me for a LONG time after the movie ended. Rocky Balboa, Adrien & Pauly - even though they're fictional characters, they've been a part of my life as long as I can remember. Thank you for sharing this!!
My dad passed away about a year and a half ago an I still feel regretful, regretful that i wish i could have done more for him. For those who have lost someone close to them... don't ever think you're alone, you are special like everyone else and you DO deserve to live no matter what 🙂
This scene should’ve never been cut. We all knew deep down Paulie was a decent person and a loyal friend. This scene showed us how much love he has for both Adrian and Rocky. Paulie may have been a bonehead, but the man had a heart and was a true loyal friend and a loving brother.
Me too. However, and I saw at least one other deleted scene posted that in my humble opinion also should not have been), I would like to think that Stallone has enough clout with this franchise and with his own status that he could insist on what stays and what gets cut. I'm sure editing is a tough call but man.. why do some of these beautiful scenes end up on the cutting room floor? Give the fans EVERYTHING! Meaning.. everything great like this scene. Don't just flippantly nip n tuck it because of budget or movie-time constraints (if that's what the determining factors possibly are).
This and when Pauly told Tommy Gunn that Rocky put him ahead of his own family and that Rocky was the real champ and threatened to punch him shows just how truly loyal of a friend Pauly is.
Every time I watch the film and when I get past Paulie's rant in Rocky's restaurant, I go back to the menu and play this deleted scene, because it absolutely completes the moment. Fantastic acting by Burt Young.

@John No it's still 30 years. Paulie was not in Creed (2015) or Creed 2 (2018). His character arc begins with Rocky (1976) and ends with Rocky Balboa (2006).
RIP Burt Young, one of his best
I don't remember this from the blue ray complete series edition I have but thank you for uploading it. It's like you've helped find a small piece of Rocky in space and time that I've never seen before.
This was such a great scene this adds depth to Paulie not to mention it strengthens his relationship with Rocky
R.I.P. Paulie...
RIP PAULIE IM 34 years Young and remember watching you on all the rockys. Always made me laugh, scares the shit out of me knowing we all die. RIP.
That's the last time we'll see Paulie
(Spoilers)
RIP Paulie thanks for making rocky our hero
No it isn't. He's at the fight.
And after the original scene you see him at the restaurant on the phonw qhen robert walks in and you also see him at training montages and the fight.
and also in the training scenes.
He dies in Creed. RIP Paulie
@@nolimitalan05 well he doesn't die in Creed, he's dead by the time of Creed
My dad passed away about a year and a half ago an I still feel regretful, regretful that i wish i could have done more for him. For those who have lost someone close to them... don't ever think you're alone, you are special like everyone else and you DO deserve to live no matter what 🙂
I miss adrian badly !!!
Every single time I do see this I cry it’s really sad
So sad. Makes you shed a tear. Only a movie but it still pulls at your Heart.
Goddamn...this was deep and sad...poor Paulie.
Great acting by Burt Young.
This scene should’ve never been cut. We all knew deep down Paulie was a decent person and a loyal friend. This scene showed us how much love he has for both Adrian and Rocky. Paulie may have been a bonehead, but the man had a heart and was a true loyal friend and a loving brother.
This scene has been restored on the new 4K. With the added music, it's even better.
YOU know the saying --------------> "No Ones Perfect" Whoever was responsible for deleted this great tear jerking scene made a blunder.
Keedeeaylaison Meghalowtsika boy! I sure hope somebody got fired for that blunder!
What a phenomenal scene
That should definitely have been left in
Powerful
6 years later, Paulie finally got to apologize to her.
Man this was a scene that should have been in the movie! Thank god we can see it here!
Paulie was always my fav character in the franchise.. Burt did a excellent job in these movies... 🙏
This and when Pauly told Tommy Gunn that Rocky put him ahead of his own family and that Rocky was the real champ and threatened to punch him shows just how truly loyal of a friend Pauly is.
also when he smashed Thunderlips with a chair to help Rock
On top of it all, I had no idea Burt Young had that much depth as an actor, he's known for the tough guy roles.
"The stuff in the basement"
I remember 1st seeing this scene and it bringing tears to my eye. The era of great acting is done
Plot twist: he was actually laughing
sounds more like it,the biggest hater in the history of movies.
The one movie scene that brought me to tears
She wasn't just rocky's wife she was paulie's little sister
Every time I watch the film and when I get past Paulie's rant in Rocky's restaurant, I go back to the menu and play this deleted scene, because it absolutely completes the moment. Fantastic acting by Burt Young.
Please re-release the dvd with this scene in it. Too good.
I cant imagine how this never made the cut...
