Whisky.com reviews the Nikka From the Barrel. Nikka From the Barrel is a mild blend with fruits, spices and a hint of vanilla. In the meantime Japan has built up a remarkable production of malt whisky, which can compete with scotch in terms of quality.

Nikka from the barrel is one of my favourite whiskeys I’ve ever had. Still haven’t found a whiskey for the price that tastes better.
@george I haven’t had the opportunity to try it yet, however I think I may give it a go if you recommend it, I have nearly finished the last of my bottle of Nikka so I will be looking to get another whiskey soon.
@george if you haven’t tried Nikka from the barrel then I highly recommend you do. Ive never enjoyed a whiskey quite so much

I couldn’t agree more! I have spent 150+ on some Japanese bottles and this isn’t quite as refined but it’s not a million miles off!
I was finding this hard to come by until recently, it’s thankfully back in good supply now, albeit at a slightly higher price but still amazing value L😊. Definitely recommend

FYI, it's blended with Ben Nevis.
Probably to add something with longer maturation than their distillery stocks. Since the new labelling standards began in April, Nikka doesn't sell NFTB as Japanese whisky. I think in their webpage they say the product does not meet all the criteria of ‘Japanese whisky’ defined by the Japan Spirits & Liqueur Makers Association. It is strange Ben didn't say something about that.
But I welcome the Ben Nevis addition. It helps with keeping the price reasonable and helps with the flavor.
U.S. gets a 750ml bottle. I liked it alot. There is some Scottish whisky in the mix also as far as we can see as they can not call it Japanese under the new rules.

Yes. Since Nikka own Ben Nevis, I am guessing they use Ben Nevis in it. There are some other UA-cam whisk(e)y reviewers who have commented the same. Maybe there have been some claims online, but not sure how fact supported they are. Anyway, this is one of my favorite blends, even if it cannot be considered a "Japanese whisky".

I just paid $87 at Total Wine for this bottle. Also it was limited to 1 per customer. I’m looking forward to trying it, hopefully it’s worth the price hike to more than double what it was around 6 months ago.

It's not just Ben Nevis. It's a blend of many, and the formula changes every few years.
As long as they can buy anywhere, bottle in Japan and call it Japanese whisky, I cannot understand the hype. This was a nice whisky, but other things are dissapointing

There are specifics to a whiskey to be called japanese whiskey, there are several rules

@@ihmpall It has a significant portion of Ben Nevis, but yes, there are something like 100 whiskies in the blend.
