Update: 17mins 43 sec in, we meant that the MBA is cold to touch first thing in the morning (not hot).
Update 2: courtesy of ibmthink from Reddit, on the keypad chart, in fact, the "X1 Titanium Yoga, Y1 Yoga and X1 Carbon do not have full-size keyboards & the keyboard of the X13 Gen 2 is user replaceable".

Hi,
The perk of having a 180° hinge is a more durable mechanism. Indeed, when you open the hinge at the maximum, and then push against the screen for whatever reason, it damages the mechanism. With the 180° hinges of business laptops it's unlikely that you will ever need to open the laptop that wide, and therefore you will preserve the mechanism.
With the MacBook or any consumer grade laptop, each time you open the laptop the widest possible to get the correct viewing angle, the mechanism become more and more loose with some stiffness and creaking when moving the lid.
With the ThinkPad, this won't happen because you will most likely get the best viewing angle in any circumstance without having to open the hinges at max.
That's one of the reasons why ThinkPad are so durable, and why it's so important to have 180° hinges.
Thanks for taking the time. 👍🙂
another important scenario: when you are on the bed and need to open the hinge to like 170 deg
Also if you are working standing (for example in datacentar) its nice to keep it open at 180....
The 180 degree is super useful for me because I can stand it up and lean against the wall/back, then the lcd is eye level for me, and the webcam angle is also much better
I tried to like the MBA but returned it in the end, and keep the Lenovo. Aside from the issue mentioned here, the Mac doesn't write (can read) all the external hard drives I already have that are full of data.
It hinges 180° to have the notebook fully open and in the vertical position. When I have worked at IBM I saw lots of people placing the notebook with 180° hinge open leaned to the wall, while of course an external keyboard was attached.
Ahh. Useful to know.
nice that you hear the keyboard sound as a type of song byt the type of noise. i got a crush on you seeing this video.
I like your review. It is to the point of what I feel every day.
Actually, I own both of them.
And to be honest Thinkpad t14s I liked more compare to the mac M1 air (considering ports).
However, sound+smoothness Mac wins for sure.
Thanks for the warm words.
Is the chassis of the thinkpad t14s gen 2 made from magnesium alloy, aluminum or plastic ?
Best refer to the psref document. 🙂👍
One upside to the display going all the way back is the display is less likely to break.
Interesting point. 👍🙂
T14 amd is the true comparison for M1. L14 amd gen2 5850u is currentlt best price/performance tag labtop
Look forward to have a play once those are available. There're not here yet.
The M1 will probably edge out the Ryzen in the single core performance still.
@@GreenGreenStore Yeah you are right but intel can not beat M1 in UMA types. INTEL please hear us or just dont produce any Ultrabook cpus!!!!
How is the battery performance on both devices?
Better on the Mac.
@@GreenGreenStorecan you elaborate with numbers please?
Your voice is hypnotizing

Which would last longer
Battery or disability?

After purchasing 2 Macbook Pro with defective hardware after 1 year use consecutively, I will go for a more durable options.....or maybe it's just bad luck XD
Ouch. This won't reassure, but maybe it's just bad luck. 🙂 ThinkPad is pretty decent though. OS switch may actually be the barrier?
ThinkPad+ Linux
change my mind
It's a combo for some. 🤓
As I understand it, the MacBook Air m1 is still more powerful.
thinkpad offers quite lower value than mac for the same price.
Thinkpad all the way seriously. Apple is charging WAY too much for the m1 air. Literally just milking money cause of the m1 chip.
No ports, very fragile, shitty keyboard, meh trackpad. I don't udnerstand how people love this laptop.
I literally tested one today at an electronics shop. It wasnt really an enjoyable experience even typing on it. My 20 euro chinese ''mechanical'' keyboard has more travel and is more enjoyable to type on than a 1000 euro laptop. I mean cmon man...
I can't wait for amd to go full ARM and put them in thinkpads. Will be next level. I truly think people do NOT appreciate thinkpads as they should. The most robust laptops ever made with the most beautiful keyboards...how can you not like them?
2nd hand market price is reasonable these days.
@@GreenGreenStore Not for europeans. Absolutely ridiculous prices for this machine. 700 bucks max seriously.
Only spectacular thing is the processor. If they tried a bit harder with design/ports/and repairability it would easily make this laptop truly one of the best bang for your buck.
Actually, the fact that Thinkpad lid is possible to open with 2 hands only is to be counted among pros - this basically means the hinges are strong & robust, not like some useless & week fruit/vegetable toy.
Apple over price overhiped junk
ThinkPad any day over Mac! Mac is so inferior in every way. Few ports, no TrackPoint or buttons, everything soldered even SSD eww, glossy screen and the awful macOS instead of super customizable Windows, vast compatibility of 25 years of Windows apps.
The only good thing about Mac is M1 processor/SoC performance and battery life. That alone is not enough to shift the balance vs Windows laptop which is superior in every other way. Another downside I can say about ThinkPad is that awful Modern Standby
