    Question: Do you think the acting jobs you booked were enough to sustain you in 2021 ?

    • @ActingCareerCenter

      In 2021, yes. And in 2019, yes. But so far those have been the only two years in my acting career where my acting income alone would have been enough for me to make a living. It's a tough industry :)

    Another question, im speaking hypothetically 🤣, if im passionate about acting and at the moment, im interested in working to get a particular marvel role, when speaking to your agent and they're getting you auditions, can you choose an audition in particular that fits the marvel role you're looking for? Even though its going to be very vague but if you're curious and have a hunch about a particular audition, can you choose that from your agent and pursue it? Or does the agent have a huge say in it?
    Thank you for your time.

    • @ActingCareerCenter
      @ActingCareerCenter  2 роки тому +2

      Unless you are already a very successful and well known actor, you don't really have the luxury of selecting what role you want to audition for. You can certainly tell your agent what your desires are but there's no guarantee that they will have any pull to get you a specific audition for a role.

    • @ActingCareerCenter
      @ActingCareerCenter  2 роки тому +1

      It depends on the market. Classes in the big markets will cost more than smaller markets. From what I've seen, 200-300 per month for 1 class per week is pretty normal.

    I have a question, when you're getting multiple auditions, do you do them all at once? Or like gradually? And if you do, wouldn't all the auditions clash? Or do you pick and choose? Like for example, if you get a marvel movie audition, then you get a Netflix series audition. How do you manage with all these auditions?

    • @ActingCareerCenter
      @ActingCareerCenter  2 роки тому +2

      It really depends. If the auditions are short, I will do them together. If they are long, I will spread them out. It also depends on when they are due. Time management is a very useful skill :)

    Hi Kurt !
    I love that you do this and double love that you share it with us. I have a couple of questions:
    What do you consider a booking? Is it only jobs you fully booked and got paid for? That’s probably an obvious answer, but I only ask because there’s been jobs I got put on ROFR and then got let go & then there was a job I booked but then production abruptly changed the shoot date and I was no longer available for it so they let me go for that too. In my heart I still booked those two jobs even though it didn’t turn into a paid job I actually did. Or at least thats how Kellen encouraged me to look at it when I vented about it in class last Friday. 😌 Should I still count them as bookings?
    Also, please share how you keep track with your numbers. Would you be willing to offer a digital download we can purchase and plug our own numbers/info in. Take my money for that asap! I’d like to preorder 😂 I want to do this with my own auditions but can’t figure out how to organize the info. It’s overwhelming and there are a lot of jobs I don’t get to audition for due to my “thrival job” scheduling conflict. Do the auditions I don’t do but get from my agent count? I know I would still like to track how many auditions I’m getting whether I go out for them or not. Again, ready for your spreadsheet download over here ! lol
    Sorry for the long post and thank you in advanced for your help & time if you happen to answer !
    Melissa Gomez
    P.s. I’m so bummed I had to work and couldn’t fly myself to Ohio to take that workshop with you and Keith.. I would have totally done that! So thankful for you guys and your valuable guidance.

    • @ActingCareerCenter
      @ActingCareerCenter  2 роки тому +3

      Hey Melissa! Absolutely count the jobs that you booked but couldn't work due to one reason or another. You still booked it! Back in 2020 I booked 10 jobs but only worked 7 but I still count all 10 as bookings :)
      I do think it's a good idea to track the auditions that you received but had to decline. I haven't been doing a good job of that but I think I'm going to start doing it this year.
      I will be sharing my tracking spreadsheet in a future video!

    Hey Kurt, Big fan of the channel! As far as lead roles goes does LA offer more of that compared to Atlanta? I heard from someone that’s where are the leads are casted as well as NY. What are your thoughts? And would you like to move to LA or NY at some point? Thanks!

    • @ActingCareerCenter
      @ActingCareerCenter  2 роки тому +2

      Sure, there are more lead roles cast out of LA. However, once an actor reaches the point when they have the experience and credibility to audition for lead roles, they don't have to live in LA to audition for them. My friend in Atlanta just played a lead role opposite Gerard Butler in the movie Cop Shop and she auditioned for that while living in Atlanta even though the role was cast out of LA. Over the past 5 years, I've been building my resume and gaining experience in Atlanta and like I said in the video, I've been getting more and more series regular auditions from LA now even though I don't live there. I currently have no desire to move to LA or NY because, in my opinion, Atlanta is still the best place for me.

    Is getting more auditions (or more film/TV vs commercial auditions) a function of your agent submitting you for more, or casting agents being more familiar with your work and requesting you? I am trying to figure out how to get more film and TV auditions, and I am unsure what steps (if any) I can take.

    • @ActingCareerCenter
      @ActingCareerCenter  2 роки тому

      It's a function of all of those things and more. Your location factors into it, your agent's relationship with the casting directors factors into it, your castability (type) factors into it, etc.

    Kurt ,
    I’ve been watching and following you for over a year and on You Tube . You answered one of my questions from your latest audition breakdowns But I have another question. I’ve been getting call backs and requests for self tape auditions and my question is how to Act with sides given. Sometimes it will give an action like holding someone’s hand or stroking someone’s hair while standing over hospital bed for example. I was told NOT to act out the actions in sides or use props … Is it just as effective or more so to deliver the lines with emotion and acting But not Act out scene … afraid of being like a prop actor instead of concentrating just on acting… Please Help .. totally respect your opinion,journey, and accomplishments … Fellow Actor Tom White

    • @ActingCareerCenter
      @ActingCareerCenter  2 роки тому +1

      There are different opinions about this topic and there isn't necessarily a right answer. My philosophy is that you should do what works for you instead of following the "rules" that other people tell you. Personally, I will use a prop in my audition if I feel like it will make the scene more believable to ME. Because if I believe what I'm doing in the scene, then the audience will as well. Often, the prop isn't even visible on camera because I am holding it out of frame.
      In the case of holding someone's hand, if I feel like that will help me connect with my scene partner more, then I may actually hold the hand of my reader off camera. Maybe that will help bring out genuine emotion in myself. Again, the hand holding may actually occur off camera and isn't even seen by the audience. The important thing is if it helps ME believe in the circumstances. Hope that helps.

    can you survive off 11% booked jobs only without other income sources?

    • @ActingCareerCenter
      @ActingCareerCenter  2 роки тому

      11% by itself doesn't mean anything. You might make $500 on a job or $50,000 on another job. An actor could have a 2% booking percentage but if those two jobs were both national commercials that paid over $100,000, then they had a great year financially even though they only booked 2%. On the flip side, an actor could book 20% of their auditions but those jobs all paid less than $1000, then then had a worse financial year than the other guy even though they booked more.

      I don't really know much about international casting. I think you need to look into the O-1 Visa for performers. From what I've heard, people in other countries actually rely on the agents in their country to connect them with casting directors in the US.

      Many acting classes will allow you to audit a class for free to get a feel for the class and the instructor. You can do that as a way to ease yourself into class before jumping in.

      I'm not really familiar with how much is going on in San Diego because I've never lived there. But, like you said, being 2 hours away from LA probably means more production than most other cities in the country just from proximity

    Do you have any advice on how to balance the pursuit of an acting career with a typical 9 to 5 job? Are auditions really time consuming?

    • @ActingCareerCenter
      @ActingCareerCenter  2 роки тому

      It's possible to balance it when you are just getting started. However, depending on how far you want to take your acting career, eventually you will probably have to find a job or income that allows for more flexibility to audition and work on set. I was working 9-5 in the corporate world for the first 6 years of my acting career.

    • @jordanheron3380
      @jordanheron3380 2 роки тому +1

      I find the balance easier now that self-tapes are the norm. I don't have to leave my day job to do an audition. I can tape and submit from my own home on my own schedule (so long as I make the submission deadline!)

    Can you get a speaking role on a tv show that you’ve already been an extra in?

    • @ActingCareerCenter
      @ActingCareerCenter  2 роки тому

      Yes it is possible but it may depend on how recognizable you were as an extra. If you were part of a large crowd in the blurred out background, then it may not be a big deal. However, if you were standing right next to the main character and your face was clearly recognizable, then that may hurt your chances.
