  • Ballet audition tips and tricks part 2, this time I’m talking about what to include in your audition video!

I was so glad to hear that some of you enjoyed part 1 of my ballet audition video where I gave advice on how to prepare and what to do during a ballet audition-whether it’s for a school, a company, or a summer intensive.
    ➭ IF YOU MISSED PART ONE here’s the link: • A ballerina's advice o...
Some things I specifically talked about in this video that's not in this one:
    - how to make your CV/resume stand out
    - preparation advice, especially concerning presentation
    - some things you shouldn't forget like snacks and water!
    - all the ways to make a good impression at the audition (that you may not have considered)
I realized though that I missed one very important part, which is the video aspect. This is especially relevant today since more schools (not just companies) will also be requiring videos or zoom auditions.
To help anyone who wants to reach a certain part of the video, I broke it into sections:
    ✰ EMAIL FOR AUDITIONS @00:47
    ✰ CLASSWORK VIDEO @1:25
    ✰ AUDITION/PERFORMANCE VIDEO @5:01
✰ GENERAL ADVICE (incl. ZOOM AUDITIONS) @8:00
Next week I’ll be posting… I don’t want to say a part 3 because it’s not specific to ballet auditions… but a HEART TO HEART that I filmed during this video. I felt that since this audition video explanation was already so long, the heart to heart would be better seen separately-that’s what I’ll be doing. Make sure you're subscribed so you know when it's up! #vulnerabilitytime
Good luck, toi toi toi, merde all you auditioners!

Okay, that barre adagio though-so gorgeous! Thank you for the video, all the ballet school auditions require videos now and I was really lost :D

Both R and L at the barre isn't necessary unless they specifically ask you. Currently making a video where they ask to see both sides, in pointe shoes, and make it no more than 5 minutes. In this case, really break down what needs to be seen to maximize the time and show the best version of you in class (e.g., do you need to see a grande plie in 1st pos both sides? Is showing x8 rondé jamés en de hor and en de dan going to show your artistry, or just have the viewer skip to your extensions?) Hope this helps someone

Hi I was wondering about how long the process is, like how long it took to get an answer and when you applied? LOVE YOUR VIDEOS Thankyou so much 😁

I think it really depends on what time of year you apply and in what capacity. If it's a particular person's email it might be faster. I can't really remember because it's been years, but I would expect some kind of response that they've received your application fairly quickly within a week. 🙏 toi toi toi

@@emilykadosh71 I'd really research the particular companies you're interested in but I think it's pretty common for them to take a look at applications starting around new years. But I know experienced dancers who start work mid-season too.

@@jeanettekakareka Hi, sorry I'm asking so many questions, do you mean new years of the year the dancer is applying too or new years of the current year? Again Thankyou for the help :)

@@emilykadosh71 January 1st is new years so around then is when companies would start looking at applications for the upcoming season. If you research professional ballet companies you can see their seasons are typically around summer or fall to spring or summer. Hope that makes it clear! :-)

Hi! There are some companies that are asking showreels as material for the audition, but I have no idea how to create one and how exactly it should look. Do you have any tips about how to make one? I would really love to hear your suggestion! And thank you for sharing part of your life, it really helps to see and hear how it looks like a day of a professional ballet dancer, so I know what to expect if I make it!

I'm sorry I missed this comment!!! I don't know if it still helps you but in case it helps others, I did show as a trainee my kind of "show reel", it was just quite short! I would consider what the company's repertoire is that you are auditioning for, but mostly highlight what your strengths are! Obviously put your best stuff first, but also consider include time stamps so the watcher can skip around. Include some variety so you're well-rounded. For example, if I was to make an audition video today I might start with my Jewels solo, rehearsal footage from Giselle, and then cut and paste a bit and my solo from Broken Fall (Modern, bare feet). I might also include my solo from Raymonda, but that was 2018 and you want to keep it as current as possible. 😊
