    It's really sad to think that if trey kept going at the rate he was, i most likely would have never seen Phish. Saw my first show in 2015 and was hooked right after that. All i have to say is thank god trey got sober. Phish is literally one of the best things that's happened to me. Sad to think it might have never been a part of my life, so so so grateful that it is.

    When Trey's voice starts really quivering at "...little I knew, you know what I mean? Uh, about music, and um, about friendship," my heart breaks. You can really see and hear it on him. Jeez, what a state he was in.
    Happy Birthday, Trey. You turned it around, and we're glad.

      that was not even a great year like for me 2003 was my finding them lucky intro looking back though 2003 was actually an amazing year it had some 4.2-4.7 even shows It had the 3rd best show of all time behind Sugarbush 1994 Pershing 1995 All of 1998 summer tour and most of 1999 tied for best shows of all time but there are gems in 03 there are no gems in 2019 i can think of Tell me the 4.5 epic shows from 2019 so i can go back and be proven wrong I only remember going to one show that year Peterson Dec 3 and the setlist on paper was gold w Terrapin talk about a Golden Lady encore but the YEM was short and rushed because it went into GTBT which ruined the set 2 closer It should have just had a long bass jam solo or gone back into a jam after vocal jam like 2022 if I recall oh yes The only great songs were Victim and Runaway Jim was really weird in all the right ways I am gonna go back and listen to it right now You can see me twirling and drooling w glowsticks on the middle upper decks on the right Mike's side in this video here during Victim Im sure you know that is me oh yes I am wearing bright neon green shorts and polo like a NIKE both are identical in color and size and design for they are all oh yes what a scritcher

      @@neilrobinson4895I've been seeing them since 99 and I say that all the time. Even though I'm not always a fan of some of the newer songs they can still turn one of said songs into the highlight of the night. This band was almost no more and trey was headed down the same road as Jerry. We are lucky he's still "shitting music" as Fishman has so eloquently put it. Trey has never wanted to be a nostalgia act playing the same songs so we may all yearn for a 96 setlist but if they were playing those every night it would spell the end. Also some of the newer songs are fantastic in my opinion they just aren't batting the same as they used to for me, it used to be like 9 out every 10 songs they released I like it's lower now but that's ok! They are still playing and I just saw them at spac and both shows were phenomenal! Everyone should be thankful for what we have!

    I was lost in addiction, and damn near lost everything until I cleaned up 6 years ago. This is a painful but important reminder of all the shame and regret at rock bottom, but it's such an important one. Addiction doesn't give a 💩 about your tax bracket or occupation; it will happily eat you alive no matter who or where you are. But people like Trey prove there IS a way back. As dark as this night was, it can be used to bring a hell of a lot of light to 2023 and beyond.

    Wow...I've never wanted to watch this because I already knew what it would be, but those opening notes of Glide are probably the most painful moment for me in 25 years of being a fan of this band. I always heard it was bad, but I really couldn't believe my ears. Fish's face at about 2:15 tells the whole story...utter confusion as to what was happening. You came a long way back Trey...thank you!

    Let us not forget that this moment was simulcast across the nation in theaters. I watch this any time I need to remember that occasionally hard things happen to beautiful ends, and there is no way to know the grand scheme so it is best to surrender to the flow. Thanks for posting! This was a breakup, and had this show been executed seamlessly, forgettably even, the breakup could have lasted longer than 5 years. More importantly the evolution showcased thus far in 3.0 would have certainly been more shallow. Phans know, they're a different band because of this moment, and the work they are doing right now is world class. NYE Petrichor. And the rain came down and washed it all away. Love.

    This is so unbelievably hard to watch but important to those of us that have had the same struggles. I'm currently in drug court in Wi. and Trey is right, it truly is a blessing. It makes me sick to put myself back in that place that Trey is in this video, it doesn't matter that he is a huge rock star, others perceptions don't mean a thing when your that far gone. I personally felt like there was nothing left but to die. Thank you Trey and thank god you survived, you are a true inspiration to me at least.

    Also - I never got that jealous watching Jerry nod off - prolly bc he always looked like he was hurting / in pain those days, but there’s just something so powerful inside telling myself “See his drooping eyes? Don’t you miss that? See how his mouth hangs open, wasn’t that great? See how he’s all itchy & rubbing his nose? Yeah I miss that. If I started to itch my skin for no reason it was always a sign that “oooh wow! So relieved. I got PROPER high this time!” 🤦‍♂️

    I went to college for a year in Northfield VT 2001-2002. Planned to go to Coventry with NJ friends. We waited Thrs night in NJ for friends who'd seen the Philly show. They were going to meet at our place and we were going to drive thru Thurs-Fri night, and arrive in Coventry Fri morning sometime.
    Those friends called and said they needed to pull over and sleep. So we slept and woke up Friday morning to a voice message saying they changed their mind and kept driving and were in VT already. Jerks.
    So we drove up Friday, and with some experience in Northern VT we knew all along to avoid rt 91. We got in a line of cars on back road rt 100 or 105, around 5pm Friday. 10 miles and 12 hours later, we made it to our campsite... 5 am. Pitched the tent, slept till 10 am. Woke up hearing that people were now being turned away. At 12:30, a college buddy (very close, in our clique) from Connecticut just appeared at our tent. He'd parked on rt 91 and hiked 10 or 20 miles to get there and had basically been walking all night.
    We had a great time. Leaving was excruciating... took just as long to exit as it did to enter. One way out for all those cars.
    At some point we heard the news that our jerk friends who couldn't be bothered to meet us in NJ, and had been in VT 8 hours earlier than us, had gotten stuck on rt 91, never made it and turned around Saturday when the announcement was made. Serves 'em right, they shouldn't have ditched the two guys who knew their way around northern VT.

I know this was to be their last show. No acting hard. Just being human. Brothers. Also, it reminds me of my fallen brother who turned me on to these guys. Changed my life in so many ways. Like so many, taken too soon. Fuck Heroin. If you are struggling, think of all the pain and heartache you will leave behind literally FOREVER when you die. Get clean. Go to a clinic. Whatever it takes! No excuses. I'm among the VERY few left of my huge group of wonderful loyal friends. Most have been gone for many years. It's very lonely and sad. I haven't seen Phish for over 10 years. I wouldn't wish this feeling on anyone. It's what keeps me from slipping. The devastation one leaves behind is unbearable.
    Also, for the love of GOD... don't start doing hard drugs in your 30's!!! You either did it too young and that's why you struggle, or just SKIP IT! I mean if you're ANY age leave it alone. Anyway, that's a very rare semi-public soapbox. Peace and Love to all of you. Especially those who understand.
    If someone you love is a drug addict it's YOUR responsibility to do EVERYTHING you can to help them. Just don't give up on them. Remember who they WERE before. That's who they ARE! Even if you're mad and they owe you money. Deal with it AFTER.

    This....like most of of the Coventry vids.....is very hard to watch. As someone who is all too familiar with addiction, i can say this. Treys voice. When hes addressing the crowd. People using opiates have this particular sort of "sound" in their voice. Any current or former opiate addict knows what i mean. Its hard to describe to someone who doesn't know or hasnt been there. But trey definitely had it in this video. Hes very fortunate and so are all of us fans. Fortunate that he survived.

    Yep - Fish’s face says it all. Extremely difficult to watch...as a recovering addict myself I hate to admit this, but truth for truth’s sake: I’m actually jealous of how high he obviously is. 🤦‍♂️ No lie - when Page chokes up saying “...cuz we might not get a chance...” I started crying. Trey says he “...f***ing hates drugs (& alcohol)” & I don’t know if that’s true but I can say my problem (like, uh, u know, all addicts problems) is this: I love drugs...waaaay too much. If I were satisfied with weed & psychedelics that’d be one thing: but I AM NOT (lol)!!! I had to find complete and total oblivion...& lemme tell ya: Trey & I both found it around the exact same time (2001 - 2002): We loved Opiates (oxy, fentanyl, heroin, norco) & Benzos (Xanax, Klonopin, Ativan, Valium, etc ad nauseum) & probably coke, booze, maybe some nitrous too - but our main jam was not our respective music at the time, it was a good oxy/xanny bar bender. I got my felony DWI (thank god I didn’t kill anyone) in September 2006 in Sacramento, CA. He got his two months later! We both went thru “Drug Court” bc we were 1st time offenders & im sure we were both doing work project or community service at the EXACT same time but in different states.
    Ahem! Got a little carried away! lol
    Remember folks: avoid the 3 P’s - Pills, Powder & PCP (😉)

      Trey's opiate addiction started waaay before 2000/2001. It just was extremely out of hand at this point. He was going through alot of other things at the time too.

    • @kevinmurtagh4996
      @kevinmurtagh4996 Рік тому +1

      @@bluecollar825 I’ve read more than one interview from recent years where he said he first tried opiates (specifically oxy) in 2000. In that expose of artists in recovery from a few years ago, he specifically said that he was first introduced to oxy backstage at Higher Ground in Winooski in 2000. It’s pretty well documented that, while he struggled with coke addiction in the late 90’s, he didn’t get into opiates until 2000.

    • @bluecollar825
      @bluecollar825 Рік тому +1

      @@kevinmurtagh4996 I understand what needed to be said during press junkets and speaking engagements. You have to polish up the truth, but the message wasn't lost. Im not saying Trey was a stone cold junky the years leading up to the public meltdown, but he was definitely familiar. I also love the way everyone says "oxy addiction" like he didn't have heroin on him during the bust.
      Look I listen to Phish just about every day, I at least check out the recent downloads they post from current shows. But you don't help write songs like SOAM and Mango without having some relation to the drug. Oxy's were scoffed at on the lot. Something you kept on deck if you needed to take the edge off. Same with subs. Everybody who was cursed by addiction wanted them bundles and bricks. Iykyk.
      Im sorry to rant and no ill intent. It just puzzles me that even after all the signs, for years, before Coventry even happened, fans wanna pretend like it wasn't going on well before this. But, I suppose if it doesn't completely sabotage the performance and the fans good time, why address it right? We all weren't praying for Trey's sobriety when he was melting our faces the entire decade of the 90's.
      And I love where Phish is at today. Saw 5 shows this summer. Blossom, Pine Knob, and Alpine. But these post 2010 fans with their "Im so glad I didn't have to witness the "oxy years" and Trey survived all that" bs kills me. I hate to break it to them but they missed 85% of the peak runs.
      But all the bitching behind lol, I love the boys and its amazing they still at the level that they are.

    I’m a bit confused here, because at the end there Trey talks about how he wants to blow off some steam, and when I first saw this I thought he was alluding to the song, Steam, and that it was a play on, that he was going to figuratively “blow off some steam” while at the same time, or by, playing Steam, but now after I’ve learned a little bit more I’m realizing Steam hadn’t even debuted yet. I wonder if this is where he, perhaps subconsciously, conjured up the idea for Steam, evidencing a resurrection of the band during their “last” show!!! Food for thought.

Trey's notes are all over the place, his reactions very slow and looks very tired and weak.
