I couldn’t imagine going to see your favorite band’s last show and being surrounded by junkies while the front man is tweaking out on stage. So sad. The jam is pretty fantastic with the context being what it was. I’d say this is my third favorite Melt jam after 4/21/93 and 12/31/99.
Most of my phish shows were between 93-95....every one I saw was killer. Saw em again in 2000....wasn't the same band. Kinda gave up on em at that point. Still enjoyed the early records and some bootlegs tho. I remember when this show happened....was debating going, but didn't for whatever reason. Didn't hear the story about this gig til a few minutes ago....started listening with "Glide", which was a trainwreck. But he seems to have cleared his fingers for this one. Playing's great. Yeah, it's kinda ramble jamble, but that's what these guys did during this era. Seeing comments about how bad this is is puzzling to me. Playing seems fine.
My personal 2nd favorite melt. 2004 had some nasty funk stuff. 99 and 2000 had some great stuff too. They definitely were playing a different kind of music at that point though.
Alex Bieger Hell the whole thing is a mess. He's barely playing guitar, look at the 2 minute section of it. He's just hitting single strings at a time. I hate phish, but I still admire their ability, and this is heartbreaking.
