Wow. I sat at my set and fooled around for a while trying to find the seven move mate. I had ideas of Bxc4. Qxc3 Na5., and I thought I had some good ideas of drawing the king out, but it always fizzled out around move 5 or 6. Anyway, great stuff.
Glad I was able to find the final blows at the end. The thing is it is easier to find when he asks then what we would actually play or even able to set up that position to make it possible.

4 years ago I had seen abhimanyu puranik in city level competition in Pune, India. He was around 2200 that time and destroyed everybody with 9/9 and qúalified for State level chess. He has travelled a lot and played many chess competitions. It is good to see him become a GM. P.S. I scored 6/9 points in that competition 😅
How lucky you are to have participated in the same tournament when GM Abhimanyu Puranik was also participant then! You are really fortunate to have witness GM Abhimanyu Puranik as a co-participant.
7:39, i think the winning move is rook to e2 cutting off the bishops, bishop captures, c6, king e8, then winning move: Queen e3, forking the king and bishop, king has to move and you capture the bishop, and trafe queens, you reach an endgame where you were already up a pawn and you're up a bishop Completely winning for white (if King goes to g7 then you fork on e7 instead)
Wow. I almost never find the moves and I managed to find the mate in 7. I bet it had something to do with already being primed to see the Bh3 threat. It just seemed like all the pieces fell into place (or fell apart, depending on your perspective) after Rxf1.
Hi Agadmator, I strongly recommend to find out new Prodigy Aydin Suleymanli with following game GM Maghsoodloo (2674) 0-1 IM Aydin Suleymnli (2474) Aeroflot Open - Round 8 Aydin Suleymanli is 14 years old and leading the tournament.
After the knight moves to c3 at 3:23, the Queen could move e7 attack the rook and Knight, force a rook trade and create a lot of counterplay. The knight is hard to reactivate for white while white has to worry about the now unsafe a pawn because the Queen can infiltrate via the b and create a past a pawn for his own.
28. QxBc3 was indeed not possible; but 28. Qb3 is not really better, because there were emergency to liberate the case h2 to give air to the white king: so, if White would have played 28.h4! instead of 28.Qb3, Black would have lost in case of 28...Rxf1+, and so he would have to accept rather a perpetual by 28...Knd4 29.Knf6+ etc... Very nice game however, just a pity it was finally decided by a defensive blunder from White.
I looked up what would happen if white wouldn't play Qb3, but the best move which is h3 or h4, then black plays Nd4 and white can get into a drawn repetition Nf6+ Kg7 Ne8+ Kg8, because anything diffrent than these moves would be winning for one side
I think there is a way out for white when queen takes the black bishop on C3 then knight moves D4 simply pawn to H4 would give king a space to move when knight moves to E2 check.
3:20 Note that Antonio said Black loses material. After Nxc7 there is Qe7, forcing white to play either Nxa8, Nd5 or Rc4 and Black will only be a pawn down
In the beginning/middle game at 2:20 when Knight F5 was played, black could've played pawn to e4, attacking the knight but also opening up an attack on the undefended knight on c3. It seemed obvious to me but I guess there's a reason for not doing that
Agree, I also find this game far more reminiscent of Fisher's style than Tal's, quite similar actually to the 'game of the century' when he sacked the queen early only to checkmate much later with the remaining light pieces. Tal's positions, in contrast, tend to look far more complex, with conglomerates of pieces so complicated that no human would ever be able to see through all the variations (deep dark forrest...)
I immediately felt that Rxf1+ was winning because you keep the initiative but I was too lazy to actually check it so I guess I only came to enjoy the show.
