Im here in maryland and have had a few owls for years. One is coming out more often. Everyday getting very close to us and my kids in the yard. He sits in the swingset believe it or not. A lil scary but im putting one if these up. Thanks for the info.
You never mentioned the height at which the box needs to be placed above the ground. I thought I heard that it needs to be up pretty high but what is the optimal height to install the box? Thanks and great video.
hi there, sorry about that. The thing is each installation is different based on the terrane, habitat etc, that said I aim for 15-20 ft in the air, facing south, south east. all the best. Thanks for watching, Bob
@@gilligallou ok I will research it. I have some in the back yard, Im making bird houses right now, gonna try to make the owl house. Thanks for the quick response
I think I saw a Yellow Shafted Northern Flicker Woodpecker today in my backyard. I'm in Ottawa. Is this even possible ? I had never seen anything like it before in real life.
@@stevegermain1222 sorry didn’t notice that part of it, this is a product that we make and sell, they can be purchased on our website gilligalloubird.com we ship all over North America. Having said that there are plenty of plans on the internet, thank you, Bob
Have made a barred owl nest box to these specs. Just wondering about the mesh. What do you use? Is it a risk that the baby owls could get their claws stuck in there? Thanks for your great info.
we use what's called carpenters cloth. it is securely fastened. Owlets are big enough that their claws are strong, we haven't had any problems, enjoy, thanks, Bob
Hey, I could use some help, the house behind me and much of the vegetation is going to be demolished so they can build a new house. I have an eastern screech owl living in one of the trees. I have bought a new box specifically for that species. My question is will they choose a better location if one is available? Is there a way to coax it to choose the new box? I am guessing it will be higher than the current nest. He/she has been hanging around for over a year but I don't know exactly where the nest is. Any thoughts would be helpful Thanks John
hi john, the nest must be close by, how with the loss of habitat and construction they may move on, Hard to say, best bet is to offer them a nesting site like you have done. Hopefully it works out, keep me posted., thanks , Bob
Great info, very investing channel. Getting cold here in London England already.
Thank you, we had snow last night, 😊 thank you for connecting,
I have barred owls in my woods here in north east Florida. They are amazing birds.
They truly are, one of my fav’s, enjoy, thank you , Bob
great video. thank you. how far apart do you do youdpacenestd
Each box should have several acre territory for best results, as far from human activity as possible . Thanks for watching, Bob

What is "this time of year" ? nesting begains
Courtship begins late fall and nesting begins late January into February. Thanks , Bob
I may have spotted owls nearby, and they need a boost in population. Maybe they will accept the same kind of box as barred owl?
Very interesting, so would you say the nest period applies to southern America
Totally different I would guess, would have to research that. Different climate, and more there.

Typically February time frame in southern North America.
do you space nests
Could uou explain the mesh thing to help the young owls ?
We provide a very tight mesh on the inside of the box to allow young birds to climb up to exit the box as the grown and practice flapping their wings.
What type of wood do you use? If using plywood, what type?
All reclaimed wood from old turn of the century barns, mostly Hemlock, some red pine and eastern white cedar.
I have a parent barred owls in my backyard and I live in NH when should I put it on the tree because I live on a dead end dirt road that is not busy…

Awesome, yes they are very common here, perhaps not as much in the city , but very common, the red shafted tends to be more to the west of Canada 😊👌
@@gilligallou Thanks for the info. You are lucky if you get to see the regularly.

I'm making a good sized one. What happens when a squirrel or raccoon or opossum moves in??
@@robertlaskey8509 the owls will make short work of them. Lol but hopefully the owls get established first. Enjoy. 😊

Do you offer plans or at least dimensions?
lots of plans on line, we have done some modification's to make it our own, at this time we don not offer plans, thank you
Could you please tell me the dimensions? Thank you.
The one thing that is a little disappointing, is that they are territorial and need a half mile between nest boxes.
Who has that much property?
Its GOD that make life he is not called nature but GOD
Hi there, thank you for
