one year ago November I ran into one of your videos and got so motivated to get out on`` my bike thirty year old stumpy I. did get out and found how out of shape I was in and my 26 inch stumpy was too, so I went into my local bike shop to get my bike tuned up. it didn't take long after seeing the new 29er bikes to step it up and get a new hardtail so I got the specialized chisel wow awesome bike. also joined a local mtb club NEMBA greatest way to find new trails and people to ride with. I was 230 pounds at 63 years old. now iam at 200 pounds I want to thank you for inspiring me to get off the couch and out and ride. I now have a carbon stumpy 29" and a Kona wozo fatty and a diamondback cx bike. I am not on that couch as much my bike store loves me my wife not so much ,,many thanks
Hey Robert, this is a pretty cool story you share. I live in Massachusetts and as a former BMX racer I picked up mountain biking 3 years ago and it has changed my life. I love being in the woods and getting of off the couch. There are some days that the couch wins, but that isn't the old norm. All the best to you. Don
@@reishadrajab3538 Wow! I have been lucky... all of my riding injuries have been my fault. This was my 3rd knee surgery on my right knee, started with a severe ACL tear playing basketball 21 years ago. My advice to everyone rehabbing an injury is to do EXACTLY what your doc says, embrace physical therapy even if it hurts, set goals and COMMIT to them.
I've been around as a subscriber for a long time. I thought the Moab Rocks series was one of your best, I then watched the BC POV BC ride. I'm really looking forward to these videos. Good luck, shouldn't be thaaaat hard for you to transform the fitness and start pinning it!
You are definitely making a difference. I got back into MTB after last year, watching your videos, and being off of the bike for 11 years. I even made a trip out to Fruita and Moab with my brother and friend. On my trip, last October, i was 256 lb. I was miserably out of shape for that trip, and it clicked inside that I owe it to myself to be better. Today, I am 210 lbs and getting stronger woth my cardio everyday. People tend to forget, or go complacent with where they are at in life, but your health is everything. Your videos have definitely inspired me personally to be a better, healthier version of myself. I am one of those people who was overweight, diabetic, and out of shape that saw your video, and said enough was enough. Be proud of what you are doing, because you do make a difference. Thanks for th kick in the seat, amd keep the killer content rolling. Hope to see you on the trail one day!
Close to 4 min behind on the last segment from king of the hill! That’s the one to push for my brother and the others will come I promise! Keep up the amazing job! Your a great inspiration!!!
Awesome ride to get fit for the race. By the away, I quit my job as DJ to focus in my health. Now I'm full time videomaker and I make some MTB videos too. You are one of my inspirations. Cheers from Brazil Brian.
I appreciate your words of inspiration towards better health and encouraging people to check their life priorities. Good on you for putting it out there, that kind of talk could change someone's life for the better.
Nothing better than a grueling day of climbing, that feeling after is amazing but so easy to forget about when you're in the middle of it. You got this man, remember the after ride high!
I’ve started riding 3 times a week to work and home, 40km round trip, and your words ring true to me and inspire me to keep pushing. Thank you so much for sharing you unfiltered thoughts.
As far as juggling videos for entertainment, rides for fun and rides for fitness, this video combining fitness and the regular commentary style ride was extremely entertaining. Love this style, love the strava breakdown. If putting more of these videos up helps accomplish two goals at once, and you have fun doing it, keep it up!
Started MTB one year before I retired to find something fun to do while getting in shape, keep in mind I was 55 and had already seen others my age pass away, so a friend suggested I take up biking. So I bought a cheap wally MTB and tried it out, had fun and enjoyed it, knowing my personality I have to enjoy it to keep it up. Moved up to a TREK 29er HT, started really having fun and cranking out 10 miles 3 days a week, bought a better TREK HT and now have a POLYGON FS I just bought and new riding gear, having even more fun and getting in more miles even with 115 heat index, loving it. Long story short, life truly is short and will fly by before you know it, find something you enjoy, get equipped and do it, even days when you don't feel like it, I'm now 62 and cranking out lots of miles. Nature, exercise, freedom, now that's living, just like you maintain your bikes you have to maintain the body, which includes food/fluids intake, let your food be your meds or your meds will be your food. These vids are the inspiration to get out there and do it, thanks, keep on cranking and living the dream!
I still cant believe you quit your job, I've been watching you from the stormy saddle enduro, you've come along ways since those days. I honestly didnt think youd still be doing this 3? 4? Years later, traveling ALL around the world bringing us BAD ASS footage! Thank you for that by the way! But you are living the ultimate life, have the most awesome job! I'll be honest I didnt watch for like 8 months, was busy, got into watching disc golf, but I was always subscribed so I got notices of your vids, I can see a HUGE difference in your physique, crossfit is doing wonders for you! Good luck in your fitness quest.
Welcome back Dale! It's pretty amazing, just passed 3 years of making videos. I got recommended a JomezPro video with Paul McBeth and it was friggin' fantastic!
Man, this video has reignited my excitement to hit up a local trail system (similar to this) in my area more often this year. I live in Canada, so we generally only get 4-months of solid riding before the snow takes over, and I'm going to make every day count! Cheers brother!
As a seasoned crossfitter and mtb racer, I can tell you that Crossfit does not translate into better fitness in the bike. Weird but factual. You wheel house is the indoor trainer, road biking, and mtb up hill intervals. Ride an up hill segment over and over. You want to keep sustained heart above 170 for a least 20 minutes straight. When you can do that you are getting close. Also, if you are riding hard ( I mean killing it ), you will not be able to talk to the camera. When you think you are riding hard, double your effort. Until BC race, stop Crossfit and Road Bike with a cycling team from a local shop. That will get you where you want to be.
Used to watch you a couple years ago and think, “at least I’m a little better than this guy!” Now I see you as a real inspiration. Awesome work! Thanks for posting these vids!
Most straight up Ive ever heard you speak bro. Keep that attitude up man been waiting to hear you speak like that for a very long time! Crush it Brian!
I know you’ll do “anything to stay off the trainer”, but 3 months of TrainerRoad will blow your mind. I started in Jan and all I can say is that it has totally transformed my riding. I found indoor riding boring, but I now approach it as an opportunity to listen to audiobooks/podcasts while I’m suffering...silver lining and all that. Plus, I bet your buddy Jonathan Lee would jump at the opportunity to help out.
Brian - No need to apologize for the dialogue - your point is valid, maybe ppl don't need to quit their jobs, but we all need to be intentional about our lives. Whether that is losing weight, getting in shape, competing in races (even for fun), being better spouses or parents - none of that "just happens" - you have to live intentionally to make those things happen. I am 49, have three kids in college, own my own company - don't make a ton of money, but started a company to make sure I had the flexibility to spend a ton of time with my kids as they were growing up (we homeschool and I work from home). Not that I have it all figured out, but I made a decision a long time ago and was intentional about decisions after that. Great stuff as usual, cant wait to follow the rest of the journey to BC.
I am one of those people that have turned their health around I lost 115 Lbs. I always loved biking and your videos have helped me get back out there and find the places to ride and the types of equipment I should be looking for. I want to thank you for being here to help me fall back in love with something I grew up doing. My wife and I have joined a gym now and I am working on building up the muscle lost to that kind of weight loss. If your ever in NE kansas I would love to thank you in person. P.S. we have some interesting trails here in Topeka that are hidden in town. Not the longest trails but good fun.
53 years old and almost 80lbs here, Brian, after getting back on the bike, going vegetarian, and giving up beer. Haven't felt this good in years, nay, decades. Watching your videos is definitely a source of inspiration, so well done and thanks.
This was a great motivator for me, Im a truck driver and stopped riding about 8 years ago and put on about 60lbs. This year I’m turning things around. I bought an all mountain bike(Scott Genius) I’m working on rebuild an older xc bike I had in the shed, and just two weeks ago I bought a CX bike that I carry in my truck with me and have been trying to ride it every day for at least 10 miles. So through diet and exercise I’m down 40lbs since Jan 1.....thanks I’m now a subscriber
All these MTB channels helped motivate me to get a part time job in the summer to save and buy a bike (GT Avalanche Comp 27,5 (2019)) and go out and ride some local trails. I haven't been losing a ton of weight, I started out at around 86kg and now I'm down to 80kg, but I can really tell that I'm a lot more stronger and I feel much better mentally. So thank you BK! Also I'm 19 and 5'2 and at one point in my life I was 120kg
Love this old school in a new school jacket Brian Kennedy motivational/ ride along vid! And really like the insight into this journey in getting more fit.
A lot of inspiration out of a single video, keep it up man! I am sure you'll have all the support and motivation you need to make it through! Be patient and don't be so hard on yourself if that time should ever come! :)
Love this! I've lost over 200 pounds in just over a year. Most of it was on 2 wheels. Starting to share my story and journey on my channel. Love watching your videos! Riding in Maine is amazing!
I love the new format, with training and life in the way, as you said putting XC back into BKXC! I have lost 62 pounds riding MTB, lost 8 inches in my waist all from biking. I am at the point now where I'm training to be a faster rider, just have to learn what's important to you and focus time doing it.
There is nothing like some dedicated practice to improve your performance. As you said, when you're riding for fun, you're not putting in the extra effort to push your body to its limits. Doing strength rides is going to help you so much. Best of luck on your improvements.
I did quite my job to focus on my health, about 5 months ago. Started mountain biking and working at a bike shop. it's very tough physically but I have lost 15 lbs. Now my joints and muscles are the focus. I keep watching your videos and pushing myself, one step at a time.
"Anything to stay off the trainer" I don't blame you, I'am myself going thru the struggles of rebuilding my endurance and stamina. Not easy... Winter Legs Winter Lungs
Your words are not lost on me...In fact, You have no idea how much watching your channel has probably saved my life... I’m down 15 pounds and I have a new love and it is mountain biking....
pretty sweet to see you work on your fitness. I recently just started adding bike specific work outs and changed my diet in order to be able to ride better. It’s pretty common sense that a better body lessens the struggle up and increases the fun factor going down. I thought biking was fun when I was chubby, now it’s like crack! haha keep pushing on brother, struggle today so you won’t tomorrow
Nice to see you rockin the Michigan water bottle, my home state and KLM cycles is semi local to me. Awesome! Keep up the hard work and best of luck at BC!
Dude the part about quitting your job for your health hit hard. I quit a company and took significantly less money for my health. I had high blood pressure the whole bit at 32 years old. Never been happier and adjusting to less money was way easier than i thought. Love the videos.
Bryan, after a winter with too much down time I set a personal goal to climb 50,000 feet this month. The biggest help for me to get there has been waking up half an hour to 45 min early and doing a quick hard ride on days when I know I won't be able to do as much after work. It definitely makes recovering harder, but those two-a-days have been a huge help for reaching my goal!
From the look of it, when you decided on the name, "BKXC," you truly were riding XC! So it's not all that surprising, but you've definitely transformed your riding style since then!
Nice vid. With all the time you've spent in the saddle the last couple of years, you're only a small amount behind your best times! In 90 days you'll be setting all new personal records! Waiting for more progress updates...
I could afford to lose 50 LBS and I've gotten into Mountain Biking to do just that. Your channel, STS, Skills with Phil, Loam and many others have motivated me to ride. If you are ever near Galbraith trails and want to teach a noob, I'd be there!
just smash out fitness improvement videos until BC. we don't need fun, we need you to improve as you want to and smash the competition! I say we as I do hope I am not alone in supporting your fitness goals! all the best!
Great video! It's good to see a mountain bike 'tuber discussing personal fitness goals and Strava segments. It's not all about hooning down never ending descents. 😂 Hope to see more of this 👍🏼👍🏼
Retired last June at 45 to get my health back after watching your and other tuber vids and wanted to get back biking seriously rather than every now and then. We had saved for years to pay for children that never came along so decided to use it to make our lives better. Lost 55lb since (down to 230lb) and still going at my goal of a steady 1lb a week. Use my old XC Marathon bike for short intense rides and an e-bike for all day epics.
Brian - 2 tips: 1. get on the road bike and do as many miles before BC as you can, they don't even have to be really hard miles. 2. work on pedaling circles when climbing, try to pedal as smoothly as possible. I know it can be hard on a climb, but it's much easier to get into a rhythm when pedaling smoothly. Keep up the great work, really enjoy your videos.
Been a PA for almost 4 years now, and I've had numerous patients who would benefit greatly from quitting their jobs to focus on their health! It's incredible how some of these corporations expect their employees to essentially dedicate their life to their job. I read a quote once, and I'm not sure who wrote or said it, but it said, "remember, when you die, your job will be posted before your obituary." Puts things into perspective!
Haha oh man, that quote HITS HOME!! You are so right about those crazy type-A folks who are just obsessed with work. Could walk away from it all and probably be just fine.
Im one of those extra heavy guys. just need to find my way... to get some reliable seat time.. Thanks for preaching, some of us need that extra push to look at how to get it done...
Find a way man! You can do it. Get up a little earlier, cut those carbs, do whatever you can to start. After a while it becomes easier to get in a routine of becoming healthy again. Good luck
Man if your out of shape im really out of shape. That ride would have destroyed me. But that view though would be so worth it. That was gorgeous man. Great video and im excited to see you get back into race shape.
Awesome video, good motivation. Love to set goals and reach them using Strava. I'm a long way off from quitting my job but did start making videos because of inspiring channels like yours. Thank you and keep going, you will reach your goals because you are helping others to reach h theirs 🤙
As a former one of the “really big guys,” I appreciate your comments on health. Too many “health” sources are telling people they don’t need to transform their lives to get healthy. Transformation is not only required, it’s good! My fit guy life is way more fun than my fat guy life.
That's exactly why my mind went to that thought, it takes drastic, crazy change to reboot your habits and do something SO different. Glad it worked for you and I bet you're still working to this day!
I didn't quit my job for my health, but I did take all of last summer off to do that. I spent nearly all of it backpacking, and it took me to realms of feeling better that I hadn't been to in a long while. However, I had been and am continuing to deal with the traumatic loss of a very close friend, and was at a point in my life where the only way forward was to find refuge in the mountains. It's not at all an understatement to say that all of that time spent exercising, being in nature, exploring, and pushing myself in new ways literally preserved my life. Rock climbing, mountain biking, backpacking, woodworking; these have all been essential aspects of recovering and becoming stronger. So yes, it does happen that people take time off work to focus on help. Probably even quit to do that sometimes. I love my job though, and was glad to go back when I was ready. It was important too. I should mention that I went entirely broke by the end of that time off, and it was absolutely worth it.
About a year ago, I left the job I was at because of the stress and general "unhealthyness" that was stemming from it. While fairly flexibl-ish, it was still over working me. I was gaining weight from eating worse than I normally would because of when I was working, running around, stuck in traffic, fetching the kids, etc etc. It was compounding digestive issues I was already contending with. Coincidentally, about 3 months before I left I started riding again. It helped fuel my decision to leave, take a huge pay cut, and spend more time with my family while being more active and healthy. I might worry about money, but in a year, I lost about 30 pounds without focusing on it, I eat better, I feel better and I'm happier. (Aside from slight money stress, ha)
Refreshing view on the health focus chat! I wish someone told me 7 years ago. Took me 3 solid years to get where I am, and would never trade it for any amount of money!
I quit my job after getting a bunch of bad medical news. I couldn't ride my bike more than .7 miles last year around this time, and now I'm riding 35 plus miles and doing 4k ft in climbing. Your vids along with others inspired me to use my bike as a means of restoring my body. I'm back to working full time and am feeling better and better every day. PS. I'm not a big boy, but cycling still helped restore my body! :)
@ 11:30ish. Didn't quit my job, was made redundant. Spent the next year with a personal trainer 2 days a week and mountain biking 3/4 days a week. That was 4yrs ago and I haven't looked back, have maintained a weight that is 20-25kgs lighter than I was back then. I'm no longer burnt out mentally, not stressed about my health, and it has allowed me to make clearer decisions such as returning to study fulltime.
super cool man. i find to increase fitness quick and power is doing step intervals. it really hurts and takes time for recovery but the rewards are massive. i can only manage 2 a week if i still wanna ride during the week. thanks for the adventure!!
As a European I really appreciate the conversion in the corner please keep it up.

Also I'm 19 and 5'2 and at one point in my life I was 120kg
Also those 6kg went down mostly in the summer but I've been cycling 20km each day on a road to school and back everyday
It’s always a great of feeling when you expecting something super low and then crush that estimate with something amazing. Great job doing that!
Love this old school in a new school jacket Brian Kennedy motivational/ ride along vid! And really like the insight into this journey in getting more fit.
Thanks Kelvin, glad you dig it!
A lot of inspiration out of a single video, keep it up man! I am sure you'll have all the support and motivation you need to make it through! Be patient and don't be so hard on yourself if that time should ever come! :)
Thanks Luca, I'm glad you find inspiration in what I'm doing!!
Love this! I've lost over 200 pounds in just over a year. Most of it was on 2 wheels. Starting to share my story and journey on my channel. Love watching your videos! Riding in Maine is amazing!
That’s ridiculous!! Congrats
I love the new format, with training and life in the way, as you said putting XC back into BKXC! I have lost 62 pounds riding MTB, lost 8 inches in my waist all from biking. I am at the point now where I'm training to be a faster rider, just have to learn what's important to you and focus time doing it.
Wow, that’s amazing !
Great video! I've been riding my anthem around Colorado, moab etc and I cant go back to a trail bike. Light and springy xc bikes ftw
There is nothing like some dedicated practice to improve your performance. As you said, when you're riding for fun, you're not putting in the extra effort to push your body to its limits. Doing strength rides is going to help you so much. Best of luck on your improvements.
Massive big up from the UK , love all your videos I always check in daily for new ones keep up the good work my man
Ben Hammond set up notifications so you don’t have to check in daily mate
I believe in you big dog, keep crushing it!
Thanks dudeS!!
I did quite my job to focus on my health, about 5 months ago. Started mountain biking and working at a bike shop. it's very tough physically but I have lost 15 lbs. Now my joints and muscles are the focus. I keep watching your videos and pushing myself, one step at a time.
Fantastic, glad you took the time to focus on YOU!
It’s great how races can motivate you to get really fit compared to if your just riding for fun, really good improvement man, keep it up!
Great vid - I'm 48 and am trying to half my freelance workload earn less but live longer. The wifes not so keen though!
"Anything to stay off the trainer"
I don't blame you, I'am myself going thru the struggles of rebuilding my endurance and stamina. Not easy... Winter Legs Winter Lungs
Your words are not lost on me...In fact, You have no idea how much watching your channel has probably saved my life... I’m down 15 pounds and I have a new love and it is mountain biking....
That's fantastic to hear!!
pretty sweet to see you work on your fitness. I recently just started adding bike specific work outs and changed my diet in order to be able to ride better. It’s pretty common sense that a better body lessens the struggle up and increases the fun factor going down. I thought biking was fun when I was chubby, now it’s like crack! haha
keep pushing on brother, struggle today so you won’t tomorrow
Nice to see you rockin the Michigan water bottle, my home state and KLM cycles is semi local to me. Awesome! Keep up the hard work and best of luck at BC!
Dude the part about quitting your job for your health hit hard. I quit a company and took significantly less money for my health. I had high blood pressure the whole bit at 32 years old. Never been happier and adjusting to less money was way easier than i thought. Love the videos.
Love hearing that dude!!
Wow, that's amazing!! Getting things done.
XC bike is the best way to get back in shape well done for BMC bike fits you well Brian. Liked and Shared as always
From the look of it, when you decided on the name, "BKXC," you truly were riding XC! So it's not all that surprising, but you've definitely transformed your riding style since then!
Love what you are saying at 10:57 onward. I quit the big money job to go ride my bike and LIVE. It's never too late people.
Love hearing that!
I just started MTB.fitness. 12-week program for $40 US. So far so good. Stretching, gym work, and interval training.
Looking forward to see more, good luck! Look at my first race the Triple R in August got no idea how I am going to go. . .
Nice vid. With all the time you've spent in the saddle the last couple of years, you're only a small amount behind your best times! In 90 days you'll be setting all new personal records! Waiting for more progress updates...
That's insane Brian, good luck bro 👍👍
I could afford to lose 50 LBS and I've gotten into Mountain Biking to do just that. Your channel, STS, Skills with Phil, Loam and many others have motivated me to ride. If you are ever near Galbraith trails and want to teach a noob, I'd be there!
Congratulations for 500 TH VIDEO BRO!!! EVERYONE ANNOUNCE ON RADIO THAT BKXC HAS LAUNCHED HIS 500 TH VIDEO! !!!👍👏👏👏✌✌✌👌👌👌❤❤
Hell yes!
just smash out fitness improvement videos until BC. we don't need fun, we need you to improve as you want to and smash the competition! I say we as I do hope I am not alone in supporting your fitness goals! all the best!
Hahah, I am not going to kill my channel for a better spot in BCBR!
Man, i remember you ripping that route in the old days when you were testing the drone for the first time. Good luck in the lead up to BC!
Great video! It's good to see a mountain bike 'tuber discussing personal fitness goals and Strava segments. It's not all about hooning down never ending descents. 😂 Hope to see more of this 👍🏼👍🏼
You're gonna make it, dude! If you keep that up, you definitely are going to make it! :)
You need a coach man for this 3 months...no joke, the wisdom is real
Yep, I was also going to suggest that. 3 months is a short time and an expert can help you target the areas for maximum gains.
Three months of traveling ahead, not gonna happen!
your 4 last videos were really motivationals, thank you and keep on going
I’ll bet you are a better technical rider now than five years ago. I watch your videos. Get that fitness up and you’ll be more awesome.
Fantastic, love hearing that!
Don't hide the bike computer, we want to see the numbers!👀 Also you seems to be in a great shape already, just keep working and you will be a beast. 💪
Maybe if the cap peak is put to the front, "beast mode" will be activated...?
Brian - 2 tips: 1. get on the road bike and do as many miles before BC as you can, they don't even have to be really hard miles. 2. work on pedaling circles when climbing, try to pedal as smoothly as possible. I know it can be hard on a climb, but it's much easier to get into a rhythm when pedaling smoothly. Keep up the great work, really enjoy your videos.
Remember, for peak physical shape you need to be on a steady diet of Mcnuggets.....preferably with BBQ sauce.
Amen!

Good luck
I’m here to give those pushes!
looking forward to your coverage of the bc bikerace. loved the one from bcpov. keep it up!
You’ve got this Brian you’re going to kill it
Well done dude... you still killing it.... 👍👍👍
Wow, glad to hear you got out there and did it!
Amazing!!
YO!!! This just around the corner from my house!! I feel like a dummy for not knowing this before. Taking this trail this weekend for SURE!! THANKS!!
How you liking the Ergon grips instead of the Fatpaws Brian?
So far so good!
I enjoyed this video so much! I’m currently training for some local enduros so I know how you feel. “Keep your head still while you putt” Dr Phil.
Man, I need to get in shape also. Ill subscribe to your fitness regime!
Refreshing view on the health focus chat! I wish someone told me 7 years ago. Took me 3 solid years to get where I am, and would never trade it for any amount of money!
Good to hear!
Yes I have quit my security job to get myself in shape. Stated working again as a Fitness instructor now. 👍👌
Amazing!
God damn!! Thanks for sharing!
*love your videos a lot when you're on your local trails*
I would love to see bkxc and STS take training SERIOUS and get in great shape.Would make for good content.
super cool man. i find to increase fitness quick and power is doing step intervals. it really hurts and takes time for recovery but the rewards are massive. i can only manage 2 a week if i still wanna ride during the week. thanks for the adventure!!
cool series. hope you get in shape for BCbikerace
Cool format video. Nice to see you ride then go straight to Strava and see how ya performed :-)
It is amazing how much a head wind can effect your riding!
The fastest way i have found to get in shape is mix in early morning runs with my riding.
I work for the man (full time) and take care of myself. Riding, racing and lifting weights.
