@jeremythompson9122: The D-500 with 260 HP and 4 barrel and 9.25 to 1 most likely requires premium leaded gasoline. The other V8s the 315 cubic inch 4 barrel and 315 cubic inch 2 barrel engines have an 8.0 to 1 compression ratio allowed for regular leaded gasoline. The 2 barrel being 218 HP and the 4 barrel with 230 HP.

Craig Jorgensen: My Dad had this same 1956 Dodge but in black ,white, and red roof. The engine also had the same tappet knock or valve lifter noise that never went away. I think this engine was designed to use regular leaded fuel but over time carbon would build up raising the compression pressures necesitating the need for premium leaded fuel.

Wow, check out the conelrad stations marked on the radio by the little triangles at 640 and 1240 on the AM dial. These were emergency stations that we were instructed to tune to in case of enemy attack back in the 1950's. This car is really a beauty and the owner seems to be knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Great find Lou and please keep 'em coming! Chrysler products back then were way different from the Fords and GM products of the day.

Loved seeing these on the Highway Patrol tv show when I was a kid and now. Shades of pink were common from 1956 to 1958. Chrysler liked using three tone paint jobs. They spared no expense on chrome. This was a very lucky car in that it must have never driven in winters during it's early life.
So glad he DRIVES this car instead of leaving it sit in the garage all the time.

My first car in 1969 was this exact model, year and color scheme. The owner was tired of looking at it, and when I asked him if he'd sell it. He said, "Stay right here," and came back with the pink slip (title) and signed it over to me. Price: get it out of his driveway. My friends kinda made fun of my "pink car" but I liked it.

As Lawrence Welk said, Wunnerful! Wonderful DOTCH! This color combo (I believe) is close to the tri tone 56 special LaFemme aimed at ladies with matching umbrella and other accessories. Apparently the LaFemme was not a sales success and was dropped after 56. Love those tri tones! Of course DeSoto 55 and 56 CORONADO was a beauty for me. Speaking of DeSoto, the red 60 in the background looks like another beauty.

My dad had one in black and white. He was tired of my older brother and sister running the wheels off his car, so he gave it to them to share and take my mom places. He got a '58 Dodge, I think a Lancer Royal, 2 tone goldish blonde and white. In the same week my brother totalled the '56, and a friend of the family was loaned the '58 and it was totalled. Next dad got a '59 burgundy New Yorker, and a '55 green/white DeSoto for my brother and sister. My dad kept the New Yorker for quite a few years. The DeSoto had a much shorter shelf life.

This Dodge had the best dashboard in my opinion, and I never liked those 'eyebrows' over the Pontiac headlights. These new fins for this year are so much better than the '55!

It's about time that a 2 door hardtop is getting in the rage and increasing popular for Chrysler Corporation, like this 1956 Dodge Royal Lancer which does attracted more then 28,000 buyers. Ford and GM cars does produced 2 door hardtop and by the year 1952, they produced more then 82,000 of 2 door hardtops for each of Buick, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Ford, and Mercury, while Chrysler, DeSoto, Dodge, and Plymouth do not make no more then 5,000 of 2 door hardtops, each by the year 1953, making a rare body style for Chrysler Corporation.

The most beautiful cars ever made are the 1955-1959 Mopar's. Virgil Exner was a genius. The 56 and 58 Chrysler 300's are my favorite regular production cars of the 50's. This 56 Custom Royal is absolutely gorgeous. Too bad it doesn't have the D-500 option. The 56 D-500 was Dodge's first ever high performance car. They dominated the 56 Nascar season along with the Chrysler 300's. Actually the D-500 was the fastest production car in America in 1956. It set a whole bunch of records

Great show: I had forgotten Plymouth’s of that year& how nice they could be( unfortunately rusted out quick). Interestingly, I picked up a 1956 ( Ford Victoria , Air Condiitioning, 292 TBIRD ENGINE , WHITE , Blue INTERIOR ) that seemed more interesting at the time: as unusually low miles and NO RUST(totaled in accident 1966).. Being a four door, was slightly less desirable at the time,.......

Lou: These cars are great. It's fun saying "Dodge Custom Royal Lancer." How reliable were these cars? By that I mean, in terms of durability. Did you want to trade them in or ditch them after five years or were they usually good for 100,000 miles and/or ten years?

    • @loucostabile
