When Combat aired in early 60's the USA was riding high. We were the big kid on the block. Watching Combat in 1965 or so I was a little kid, thoroughly convinced that USA was far superior to Great Britain. The war was only 18 - 20 years prior to Combat being on in prime time TV. Hard to believe, even now, how much the world changed in those 20 years (1945-1965). Read a history on the United Kingdom and compare it to the USA...

Out of all that devestation in England, came four English lads who became one of the greatest bands in history. ( The Beatles) The British invasion of the 60's.
WW2 drew America closer to the British than at anytime prior. Following the War with the Marshall Plan in effect the Brits fell behind their Continental rivals (including the USSR). Britain never did fully recover the financial and material losses the WW2, including the Loss of their Empire. WW2 changed the whole World's balance of power when the USA and Soviet Union became "Super Powers". In 1939 the USA/USSR were minor players on the World's Stage...
