Wow. Brilliant initiative guys, how is this project not much more visible / popular in the gaming preservation scene? The decent availability of great lightguns that arent prohibitively expensive is integral to the preservation of that history.
@@Ipsissimus Make sure you using the latest firmware but also try waiting till the mouse pointer has finished moving before pointing to the next calibration point. This issue should be fixed in the latest code so let me know how ya go.
Hi folks, I'm now trying out this new fw which looks fabulous. One question, do you think if it is possible to implement analog controls for the Dpad? not to use the analog, which is of no use, but to be able to mount the analog joystick in the guns which takes up little space and a classic directional cross, which takes up more space, would not be needed. we would have 5 buttons in a single component, leaving the rest of the gun free for the most used buttons.
Yeah, Soeng's already got you, man. You can change the pin mapping in the App to Analog X/Y. Only on certain pins thou. So go through the pin options on your current board and try and you should find at least 2 pins that can be changed to Analog.
@@samcorulz thanks, I didn't realize that was the purpose, i.e. to replace the dpad. A diagram would be useful to better understand the potential of this openfire. Thank you
Will this work on a raspberry pi 4b running retro arch?If so could u please point me to some documentation because i fear i have built this gun without realising its not compatible.
Yip, have a video up on my channel of it working with the old code so calibration is a bit different but it is basically the same idea. Chasing my tail a bit getting guides together but search of lightguns in RetroPie will give ya good start. They all work pretty similar to each other.
Could u help me please, ive tried discord but no one is responding. When i enter the openfire app and select my port from the drop down, im getting a msg saying - Data hasnt arrived (stale state) device was detected but initial settings wasnt recieved in time?
Hi mate, I can see a few responses in the build help section. Give the guys a bit of context with what’s happening and someone should be able to help ya out.
Yeah... well sort of. Our code is designed to run on an RP2040 chip (Gun4IR runs on 32u4 chips) so unfortunately you can't just upload our code to your current Gun4IR. However, there are microcontrollers available that are the same shape and have the same pinouts as most 32u4 boards so you could swap out your old 32u4 chip with the RP2040 equivalent and run our firmware on it.
@@spacemidget9416 Yeah mostly should work with a few changes. Just be aware RP2040's pins output 3.3v so just have to make sure MOSFET's go high on 3.3v and also might have to update the resistors used for your leds. Also should probably note we're having a few issues with some cheap rumble motors. If you have issues the team suggests using a N20 ERM.
PCB 1.1 was wrapped in paper I ordered 2. Bubblewrap might have been a more prudent choice.🤨 I suppose we're paying for the code not the hardware. At least they both worked.
How rad is this!! Such a huge amount of work and it's all ready to go now! Great work, nerds! 🎉
Haha, thanks Susan!

Thanks! Spread the word my friend we would love more people to know about the project :)
I can't believe it took me so long to find you guys, this is awesome.
Thanks! Glad you found us :)
Cant wait to hear more. Got a guncon2, I just need the parts now and waiting for the shop to stock.
Hmm, I can't get the calibration tool to work. Everything is off center as if the screen is shifted 1ft to the right.

I just picked up a Namco light gun at a flea market this morning. Timing.

No worries Kyle! Keep up the good work on the Light Lynx.

so it basically can replace gun4ir software?
