- So today i tried to fix the almighty click which i have been getting for months, i initially thought it was my driveshaft.. then i realised the spring could possibly be loose... thats when it turned bad.
Yes i snapped my suspension strut by overtighening it with a breaker bar; what an absolute D***HEAD.
lesson learnt.
Luckily; one of the megane lads had a spare strut lying around and i could go and grab it off him, otherwise i would have been in a bad bad place.

Installing it was of course, a pain.
But shes all back on the road now, although she has developed ANOTHER noise which i will have to have a look at tomorow.

Dude I did this with my motorbike (GSXR 750), over tightened the oil pan drain bolt and had to get a whole new underside of the engine -.- when it happened I was like omg what no please no 😂

Unlucky bro but good to see you have people willing to help also loved the fact you mentioned Chris fix he’s spot on mate lastly have you checked the inner tie rod for the clicking as I’m having a similar issue , changed my track rod ends and drop links and I’m still hearing the noise so going to try inner tie rods

If that clicking sound is still there pull that driveshaft out take the inner cv boot off pull the shaft apart carefully as there's 3 needle rollers behind that is a spring they sometimes break causing a clicking sound. And get a bottom ball joint on it, yours don't look to healthy lol. 👍🏻
This is why you don't use a breaker bar that shouldn't be stupid tight...

No gain in performance or looks! Its happened many times to me buddy and its a bas**rd! It normally happens to me after I say the words " I think I will just av lil look at this" Good luck in future..

Simon Johnny had my Megane for 2years so far and not a si gle problem. Also had the mk1 before for 3 years and no problems either.

I had the exact problem on a 20 year old micra I had for my first car I hit a pothole and the strut snapped, jacked it up and you could literally wobble the wheel as if it wasn't even attached 😂
you need a 3/8ths ratchet and socket set for engine work and jobs like yours around 13mm, 1/2 inch for wheel nuts and lower suspension parts and wish bones and hub nuts etc... 17mm, 19mm upwards and 1/4 inch for the smaller stuff 10mm downwards
I bought an R56 Cooper S about the same time as you got the Megane and spent £1,500 on it so far in just maintenance costs, I'll swap with you any day xD

I can believe it..... using a breaker bar on a small suspension top nut, was obvious what was going to happen. Your also too busy checking how your hair looks and videoing your face, rather than focusing on the job! You don't need 2 people or screwdriver, to stop a disc from turning, Just wedge a length of wood between the steering wheel and the pressed down brake pedal.
