  • I am overwhelmingly saddened by the sudden passing of my dear friend Frank Sinatra Jr. He was one of the kindest and most soulful guys I've ever known. He was a talented musician and wonderful singer. His knowledge of The Great American Songbook and the arrangers and musicians who made those songs great, was unparalleled.
He personally encouraged, inspired, and influenced my own musical journey in countless ways. I had the privilege of recording and performing with Frank many times, and will always hold those memories dear. The Sinatra family has a special place in my heart. I will forever remember and treasure my friend and all the happy times we shared.

I always love seeing guys use the old arrangements specifically Sy Oliver’s. I always loved Sy Oliver’s arrangement to this tune. I think having him do that whole album which this song is included on the 1962 album (I remember Tommy) Sy took this song from a slow melancholy mood to a swingin’ masterpiece and Frank swung it and I mean swung it hard especially on some live recording of his concerts in Vegas.
Nobody can ever swing like the chairman. Hats off to Steve though wonderful job!

Thank you for this, Steve. I thought Frank was singing better and better as he aged. He worked with his widening vibrato as did Rosemary Clooney in her later years. Impeccable taste in orchestrations and material, always.

STEVE & FRANK JR - The One I Love Belongs to Somebody Else
Don't you love it when one good link leads to another? The intuitive genius that is UA-cam circa 2020 sent this my way, as if to say, “You liked that, and you'll love THIS!” A similar tribute by Steve on the passing of Frank Sinatra Jr. on their video duet of THE ONE I LOVE BELONGS TO SOMEBODY ELSE. Posted March 17, 2016 with these words of introduction:
"I am overwhelmingly saddened by the sudden passing of my dear friend Frank Sinatra Jr. He was one of the kindest and most soulful guys I've ever known. He was a talented musician and wonderful singer. His knowledge of The Great American Songbook and the arrangers and musicians who made those songs great, was unparalleled. I had the privilege of recording and performing with Frank many times, and will always hold those memories dear. The Sinatra family has a special place in my heart. I will forever remember and treasure my friend and all the happy times we shared."
Love the spoken words of 'intermission' (around the 37 second mark) in the studio (the Capitol tower in Hollywood?) when Frankie says the studio's been re-done several times, the control room too -- but “the men's room down the hall is just as it was in 1956!”
Thanks for sharing Steve Tyrell. Celebrated this day at Sinatra Family - Forum - "Siriusly Sinatra" - MY FAVORITE VERSION, YOURS TOO? [defunct link] Thanks Steve Tyrell for sharing this gem. Celebrated this day (9/5/2021) elsewhere: [Search] " Great Melody, Great Lyric, Great Rendition, Songwriting Workshop, Harmony Central "
