Thanks for this beautiful session, you pretty much nailed everything and we really appreciate it that you went easy on it :) We got a lot of good feedback from it, same goes for the comments here... We're working on an update with a bunch of QOL improvements and host of fixes, should be due sometimes this week, hope you stay tuned :) Thanks again!
PS: the Nav Tool can be quite useful when you loose your orientation, and when your station is expanding it is often useful to change the orientation of controls (to match those of the additional T2 thrusters you've build later for example, or to match them with the looks of the station as it's getting different/evolving)
are you guys looking for any sound engineers or producers? this looks like an amazing project!
Game looks really cool! Will be keeping an eye on this one.
Minor piece of feedback: The thruster plumes are distractingly large/bright. Might help to tone them down some.
Loved playing it for most of my day after watching this video! Can't wait for Multiplayer and More content! Also, I have tested to see if shearing parts off was possible with rotation speed... I crashed my game doing so, but still fun nonetheless
Love any space mining games. Will keep an eye on. Splattercat is one of the best for reccomending fun titles to play.
Shield Rig Captain: "Ramming Speed!"
Splat: It's like Delta V but 3D
Me: Shut-up and take my money!
That line sold me on it as well
Programmer: So reaction thrusters in the game will be gas-based, how much gas do we want to show in the game?
Lead Programmer: YES!
Programmer: So reaction thrusters...
Thrusters: *react*
ironically it looks wrong, you don't get brownian motion (swirly smokey patterns) in space, the gas just expands linearly like a cone.
Kerbal Space Program taught me never to accelerate directly at something I wouldn't want to crash into.
Pro Tip for SplatterCatGaming, in space, always aim above or next of empty space if you are flying towards a station or asteroid, not directly towards it like a missile. Thank me later.
Space engineers....
@@teddy5004 Ah yes, of course!
@@teddy5004 Outer wilds...
This advice also applies to first time boat drivers, enjoy.
yup, its a lot easier to circle back if your ship doesn't explode on what your flying towards .
I'm super happy that there's so many "hard sci-fi" games coming out. For a long time it sort of just wasn't a thing. This seems like a lot of what I like about mech building in Battletech, but in space, with space stations. Which is rad.
Watching the Shield Rig slowly float toward the main ship(as anyone knows from Space engineers or any other high-mass space physics game, you never aim directly at your target) and practically begging him to pay attention to it was painful.
Watching it fucking explode made me laugh.
knowing Splat too well all I had to do is to fast forward and check out the explosion.
and I'm not kidding nor exaggerating. I actually did that the moment he sent that ship forward and I must say I was not disappointed.
this routine helps me from constantly getting annoyed by his videos. after years of painful experiences I've decided that I actually like him as a presenter and so this is how I watch his content. you saw something funky he did? don't sit and anticipate a disaster, simply fast forward, acknowledge and accept the fact that he's blind/distracted/crazy, then rewind if you really have time to listen to him rambling and singing in between.
@@milanstevic8424 I genuinely started doing that thing people do when someone's doing something dumb and they're right there, I was like "um... Splat.... Splat... Armor rig... Your armor rig dude just... just click the armor rig. Click it. Click it. Just click it it's right there IT'S ON SCREEN LOOK AT IT" like it kinda drove me crazy. Maybe I'll do that next time. lol
@@beefytaquitos that's regular on this channel lol "there is no speedometer"
"yes there is, it's right there are you blind, no don't DON'T GO THERE ... it's gonna crash" *crash*
**massive explosion**
"that the shield rig"
lol
Game looks pretty awesome ngl, might wait on it to see how it goes, definitely something I'll keep on my radar
Me watch the shield rig float by quietly while he's trying to fight the Xenos filth. 10/10
Thanks for showcasing! ^^
I was so focused on the middle of the screen that I didn't noticed the alert and the shield ship passing by until I read the comments pointing the time stamps for it. My first time watching I just saw the explosion at the end like Splat. 😅
This game looks amazing, now I'm waiting for it to release some day
Plus splattercat lives up to his name, he splattered an entire ship.
If I ever make an indie game, it's nice knowing that Splats here to shine some light on them
Mostly by blowing his own shit up 'cause he got distracted. Again. 🤣
Hey Captain? We're ummmm..... About to crash.
Cpt: Nonsense. Control would never leave us on a collision course. Now, ahead as assigned.
This visually looks really interesting. I'm still deciding how I feel on the gameplay, it definitely could use some QOL improvements.
The flight system for one
what’s QOL?
@@woofy9977 Quality Of Life (QOL)
Improvements meant to automate or ease basic functions in a game.
LIke setting way-points in a game involving movement or rally points in a military game where you want units to gather after being built.
This game looks incredibly complicated with great depth. It may take a while to become efficient, but once you do, it maybe extremely satisfying. Good video bro.👍👍
That title page is pretty awesome, I want that for my desktop.
"DELTA V" is one of my favorite games of all time, thanks to you Splattercat.
I love how you see in 20:40 how shield ship is closing fast on the main ship yet dude is too focused on the small ship in the foreground. BTW. devs should add proximity alarm.
haha!
Lol I think there is, at the bottom of the screen. A audio klaxon would go a long ways tho.
@@foxx1275 yep. for a good 2 or so minutes before collision, you can see a proximity alert popping up off and on towards the middle of the bottom of the screen... but it fades a little into the background, and doesn't stay on, rather turn off and on. making it more visible, or not alternate being on, and an audio warning the first time it turns on would definitely be good.
There is a prox alert. He ignored it. Go rewatch prior to the impact.
The vector offest in that nav screen, I suppose could be used to counter unbalanced ships to allow for "straight" flight. That'd allow you to have asymetrical ships
That hamburger helper line... Such a nostalgic struggle-meal lol
I saw the shield rig float by at like 19:00 and knew that was going to happen lol. This game looks super interesting, I'm going to add it to my wish list
I'm sure someone already commented on this, but there does appear to be a speedometer to the right-hand side of the rig name. It also shows your rotation speed.
this looks really interesting. i like slow paced tactics, especially in space. what it's clearly missing though is a way to orient and see what you're pointing at and where your actual front and back are and what your angles are with the weaponry. some kind of overlay, preferrably togglable. because with that (and the knowledge that you don't thrust directly at something in space), you wouldn't have crashed your shield rig.
collision detection would help too. an elegant way would be to have your active ship have a "shadow" type highlighting of the part that will get hit with the currect trajectory. that would make it really easy to adjust for with minor course corrections.
If you click the NAV toll on the left side you get an overlay of the directions the ship is pointing, like at the 9:55 in the vid... shadow highlighting would be a great feature yes!
@@unready56 oh. thanks. i guess i really should start watching videos from start to finish before complaining xD
@@meh.7640 you're not alone my friend :D
GREAT...ANOTHER game i want to play and it is in early access
My thoughts exactly!
Actually it is even better than that, early aplha demo :D
games like this that are still in alpha after 4 years, I want to play the game but the finished game is like another 4 years away...sadness
My early access wishlist grows longer by the day.
Those ships look like they came strait out of the Battletech universe.
Wow cool looking game…
The longer I watch the cooler it gets!!
[Edit: this turned into a 🛰🤓 suggestions post] Game looks beautiful and very promising-thanks for highlighting it Splat!
1. Where are the badass glowing red radiators to reduce heat? Also they and especially the solar panels should rotate relative to the star(s). But a vessel that size must be nuclear not solar right-that's what those big trefoil modules are.
2. It'd be nice if you can build thrusters out on booms so they're more effective at rotating the vessel. Speaking of 17:00 that big rotating ring offset from the CoM should torque the vessel.
3. I hope they let you (visually) upgrade from the steam thrusters (which look cool but super wasteful) to combusting chemical rocket thrusters, nuclear thermal rockets, etc.
4. Design-wise I guessed the spinny thing was a space-folding FTL device not a Shield Generator. And the Intel Center could use a parabolic dish or two. Overall very nice designs though.
5. Node-attachment-based ships look great with low numbers of core modules yet badly unrealistic when they get too big and start moving-KSP players know the wobbly stations I'm talking about. The game could automatically adds structural connections between boom arms or introduce balance to discourage those unwieldy stations.
How to dissipate heat in a near vacuum? Okay, it's a game,..
This game is an instant watch list. Game looks amazing although from the looks of it, the game is super complex and may take a while before it gets fully released.
12:50
Your current vessel speed relative to the gamespace is listed on the bar that labels your rig to the right, in m/s. It also tells you how much you're rotating, pretty sure.
I just picked you up as a co-pilot in Star Valor. You do not disappoint, sir.
This is gonna be super rad if they pull it off, Love me some hard sci-fi industrial sim
I've been meaning to say this to you for years but I really appreciate your vids, man. Also you have a lovely singing voice. That is all. Please carry on!
My Steam wish list has bloated to the sky because of you. :)
Really interesting looking, Thx for showing us the game Splat!
When I used to play EVE and Elite Dangerous, I used to long for a space game where I could mine and build but not get constantly bullied or killed. When I played EVE, you couldn't really survive as a solo miner. People would just come with cheap ships in alt accounts and destroy you for "fun".
hey splat can you make a 2022 playlist so I can binge-watch all the new videos you are the best youtube that I have found to focus on survival and rts games keep up the work because its the best iv seen
If I can name my ship the Kuun-lan, I'm sold.
I think I love you. Keep up the great work sir!
Sorry splatter, soon as your shield rig...splattered... against the main rig I was laughing quite a bit. :P
The KSP player in me is absolutely dismayed over these very inefficient maneuvers
Laughed my a$$ off when you crashed the sheild rig it's such a human mistake, if this were a movie it's the first thing I'd expect to get damaged
I think the reason you're having trouble with the controls in this game is because rather than figuring out what happens when you do things youre trying to force what you want to happen
Typical Splatt. 🤣🤣
Exactly
Dude.. did you play the game ? The controls are murderous !
@@tinygriffy This one in particular no, but I play plenty of games with horrible controls... What I'm talking about is strategy for how to learn a game not necessarily advice for this particular one.
@@teddy5004 Still doesn't feel good.
Ill Space sounds like a prequel to Dead Space :)

its looking pretty cool, some new game idea in space that i am waiting for and didnt even know about it 😀
There's a Demo on Steam, nice!
Favorite part of a new day, let's gooooooooo
Giant laser booger balls, count me in 😆
I want this kind of game in The Expanse-universe!
Damn! Shield rig turned into dust! That's... unexpected.
Expanse vibe , love that
This looks awesome, I need to try it out.
Ooo this one has potential!
"Skooma Steve"? XD
Kerbal Space Program has an option to reorient the person doing a spacewalk (EVA) to the camera by hitting the spacebar. The UI overlay is redundant in that way although it is a nice visual representation of what KSP confusingly does. 🤙
Space age where computing isn´t invented kind of sucks. One would assume that in the future space flight would be more intuitive, simple controls most humans can comprehend with an onboard computer "translating" your input and making the necessary thruster adjustments.
So, you press forward and the ship moves forward, the computer already knows your weight, mass and any other vital information allowing it to make the necessary corrections.
The video on their steam store page is... well, it's there :D but for what reason, I have no idea lol
For reference, this game has been renamed to Starminer and is now being published by Paradox Arc
Was the game sold under the previous name before being renamed?
@@craota I don’t know for sure
A lot going on, whew! Like it. 👍🏻😊
So this is a game where Inertia Dampeners are not a thing? Lovely...
You are like a Living Bug Report... The mere act of testing a demo will show the Devs that they need to add Warnings and hopefully "Approach to a certain Distance of Target" option. and that Gas thrusters need a graphic tone-down, I'm not sure how that much gas could be stored in such a small sphere
😂 😂 Have you considered not aiming the shield rig on a collision course so it doesn't matter if you accidentally forget?
If this gets good joystick support, I'm IN!
That'd be quite the advantage!
Definitely getting the controller support in the very near future!
@@coolandgoodgames3281 I'll start dusting off my X52
Thanks for showcasing :o looks good as fck!
This is a more complicated, better looking Avorion.
I'm getting Kerbal Space Program meets Home World vibes.
you might need reading glass, Mr. Splattercat, if you are having a hard time reading the littler "letter" in those elements. it is an "o" but if you cannot distinguish that easily, it might mean you have a little bit of "far sightedness" .. Im just mentioning it because when i started to lose my perfect eyesight, i didnt realize it at first, because i just thought what i couldnt see, was normal.
dude I love your delivery in general, did you do lots rap demo in high school or smthin? ;)
Who else immidiately pressed B when he said "most important key"?
if you failed physics class, this game is not for you
Those poor souls that died on that shield ship. Rip
I think the grid view that lets you pick which way is forward seems like it must be for ships with uneven weight distribution, right? I believe that changing the forward direction would allow you to counteract some of the effect of the unevenness. Except I'm not so sure that actually makes sense because I feel like mass distribution can only really _rotate_ the ship, whereas changing the definition of "forward" seems like a translational thing, but I'm not really sure. Anyone know what's going on with that?
don't know the particular feature you're referring to, but the thing with the thrusters is that they must be radially positioned in such a way to produce a net acceleration going directly through the center of mass (CoM) if you want to prevent any excess rotational force. this is hardly the case in reality, and this is why attitude thrusters basically fire up constantly in short bursts, trying to compensate slight discrepancies. all external mobile parts, internal cargo or fluid distribution (fuel, oxygen, water etc) inside the ship, as well as any damage, can significantly affect the exact CoM location. additionally, multiple thrusters have a compounding effect, and so fine tuning their output may balance the net vector, producing a "soft" alignment with the CoM. this is why having ships with several off-center main thrusters is more realistic than having a single one pretending to be going through the center.
however, I think that the definition of forward in this case (a time stamp would be helpful though) is literally where "forward" is supposed to be in relation to the ship, probably because of the control scheme.
Looks like it would be a perfect game for me if you had one main ship to focus on. I just can't stand fleet management.
Look up △V Ring of Saturn
Space engineers and other games have taught me to never fly AT a thing.
I think the idea is is that its not an RTS splat.
You'd think with tech like that you would be able to make solar panels that turn to face UV sources.
The game its call "Starminer" now
I hate that the shield rig disintegrated even though it was travelling at a speed of only 28 kmh (~18 mph)
(12:56 yes there is a speedometer, it is on the right from the label "Shield Rig" on the bottom of the screen, and it says 8 m/s)
"Proximity Alert" notwithstanding, you can see the last moments of the rig at 21:22
If you check at 19:19 it he accelerated it to 9 m/s which is 32.4 km/h (bottom bar on the right). You can also see on the bottom indicator bar that the rig is 1002 tons so yes it would destroy itself. Momentum is Mass x Velocity so 1002 tons (1,002,000 kg) x 9m/s = 9,018,000 kg m/s.
THAT'S A LOT OF DAMAGE!
@@phlogistanjones2722 That's a Newton-second, and you don't measure damage by it.
The damage is measured against the applied force of impact over time.
Momentum is a total force capacity, which must be distributed over time during impact. Given the surface area of the impactor and the much sturdier impactee, there is no sense in impactor getting desintegrated while the impactee remains unscathed.
Now I get that it's only a game that doesn't simulate physics to such a degree of detail, especially deformations etc, but still the vessel is needlessly obliterated in a game that already simulates a fair degree of physics. It should've banged metal-to-metal and transfer a lot of energy to angular velocity, especially since the target is rigid and immovable. It is easy to extrapolate the "perceived" damage values from such a clean physics sandbox, assign them accordingly and that's it. Instead of going like BOOM poof BLAM that's so cheap.
Here's a study for estimating river barge impact forces, most of which surpass your meager 9 MN

Thanks
Are you going to ever show off your warhammer armies? I recall you used to have a Salamanders army
Oh snap, another space game . Im still on star valor hahaha
i would tone down the maneuvering thruster effects
"Helium rain" (kinda) aesthetics...
Do they give you a set amount of ships or can you build more variation and its seem interesting. Game with real slight mechanic where you have to take into consideration thrust , and retro thrust and all the other concept is really cool. Looks like a promising game. Would be cool if they added a sub fleet system where you can build ship or turret system for further defense purposes
Nope, you can build more ships.
You can do it, you can split your stations and re-purpose them for different roles, e.g. mining, scanning, transport, defence...
how come when you play you only have a "rig" but when i play i have a fleet of three different spaceships? How do i play the scenario with only one spacecraft, because having 3 is too complicated for me
Hi, do u know why is it now named Starminer and not anymore ILL Space ?
It needs a decent nav ball. Devs should play some KSP ;d
🖤
Downloading the demo now. But sadly have to head in to work. Game looks amazing!!! Idk about the combat with thr controls. Maybe the rocket launcher will make it tolerable with the controls.
F for the shield shop
Radiator modules?
I downloaded the demo and it is still super buggy for me. Is there anything else that scratches this same ship building / strategy / real time combat itch, with good modern graphics? I was really looking forward to playing this but it just kept crashing.
so thaaaats why you are called splatter cat..... :P
SHIELD RIGGGG!!!
It's a neat thing that they've made here, but, is a super realistic spacecraft simulator good for a fun game? Well you got to worry about setting yourself into a spin, if they start to throw heavy gravitational fields interacting with the vessel then, it's going to be real difficult. Appeals to a certain sort of gamer I suppose but is it a fun game overall?
Reminds me of △V
Looks like it could be better than homeworld!
This looks complicated, and the physics are clearly even more unforgivable than Kerbal Space Program. Not sure this is for me. Maybe if there was an alien-free casual play mode, I would enjoy it, but not confident about that.
I'm so confused is it Starminer or Ill Space?
It got renamed to starminer
