    Hey,
    I just buy this CPU and motherboard, and i saw AI Optimized set very high VCCIO and VCCSA like 1.3-1.4v. This is normal? Any why You set to auto CPU SVID support? i watch many tutorials and everyone disable this. Why You use XMP I not XMP II? And last question why You don`t check CPU stability with AVX? You say to use 26.6 without AVX. I doing test and with 26.6 my cpu working perfect but crash wjhen i doing test with AVX. Thanks for answer!

    I was at 5ghz and 1.35 running temps in the 80s on cinebench R20. I finally settled on 4.9 ghz and 1.25 volts which seems to make no difference in performance on X-plane but runs about 10C cooler. Also using a 15D cooler which actually works better than my old 240 aio.

    • @jjsemperfi
      @jjsemperfi 4 роки тому

      I’m at 5ghz now with a 9700K but I’m thinking of doing the same and dropping to 4.9 for some cooler temps. Not so sure that .1ghz will make a difference in the games I play. Just set AVX to 2 to see how that affects temps as well. Also beefing up my case cooling with more 140mm’s. Too much fun to tinker with OCing.

    Hi der8auer if you or someone in this comment section could help me here, I am just concerned with the temps im getting from my 9900k,
    This is a brand new pc I just built the 9th of jan so everything is pretty new
    Specs are :
    MSI Godlike Z390 Motherboard
    Corsair Vengeance 3000mhz RGB 32GB DDR4 Ram
    Corsair h150i AIO Cooler
    Asus Strix ROG RTX 2070 8GB OC
    Asus Thor ROG 1200w PSU
    Intel Core I9 9900K Processor Which is currently @5ghz
    1TB Samsung Evo 860 SSD
    CoolerMaster Cosmos C700P Case
    Windows 10 Pro.
    Now my main problem or well Concern is that although I am aware of these intel chipsets being hot, I am just concerned about my idle temps.
    On my first boot the CPU was idle at 30-36 without before I OC'D to 5ghz
    But after I OC for a short time period It still stayed similar to the temps before the OC until it started to increase.
    Idle temps across all cores were reaching 40-45 and some times even 50 and on the rare occasion it would shoot up to 60c which literally made no sense since in task manager the cpu usage % was at like 1-2% thats no where near enough to cause a CPU thats idle to shoot up to that temp across all cores. Now It could be that maybe my OC is not stable enough? But i have tested games Such as Blackops 4 with everything on ultra and even live streamed it the temps when I first tried this was around 45-60 across all cores and bare in mind this is also whilst live streaming.
    With BF5 Temps were similar since everything was on ultra + ray tracing bare in mind im playing on 1080p here plan to play on higher resolutions in the near future when i get a higher res monitor.
    But the point is only now When I started to play blackops 4 the temps were 70-85c across all cores which to me is worrysome.
    The games I tested were Blackops 4 which gave me 70-85c constantly
    Assassins Creed Oddessy which was hitting 80 whilst being in main menu
    Battlefield 5 80 in game across all cores..
    I Just need help here, is this a cause of concern or is this normal..
    I previous PC build I had a i5 6600k and a gtx 1060 6gb
    My I5 6600k was literally cool af 16-17c even when it was oc 3.50ghz to 4.50 that cpu held its own with really impressive temps 30-40c whilst gaming 17-20c whilst idle... though I had a h100iv2 cooler
    Could it be that the current cooler i have is not good enough?
    Or that maybe itsj ust my cpu? Or something else?
    Also I would like to note that, when i was looking at task manager my gpu % wasnt even that high whilst playing BO4/ACO and BF5 it would stay at around 6-10% usage whilst gaming whilst my CPU would shoot straight to 80% usage which is wierd to me to say the least.. Am I doing something wrong here?
    Should I clock the chip lower to like 4.50ghz? or just go back to stock I mean I did get impressive performance at stock but I mean if you can oc it to 5ghz then why not right..
    I just need to know and need some advice and information to better understand.. Even whilst I type this my temps on my i9 right now are at an average 40-45 across all cores, odd ones out dropping to 38 for a moment then back to 40+
    When i turn my machine on after leaving it off all day when i get back from work the temps show up as 28-30-35 as an average but that doesnt last for long it will then shoot up and increase to its 40s-50s..
    If anyone could help me that would be great! Sorry for such a long comment-

    I love using the AI optimization but it tends to blue screen because it tries to OC too high, it starts stable at 38% but then realizes my cooling is really good and tries to go up to 44% which I know is unstable, does it detect an OC caused crash and adjust? Also should XMP profiles be run with the AI optimization?

    So, are the VRM "issues" I kept hearing about on these boards overblown, or should I be looking towards a different mobo for an i9-9900K 5ghz overclock build?

    • @170adamb1
      @170adamb1 5 років тому +7

      Yep, they're completely overblown. The 2 reviewers respondible for all the fuss concentrated on one specific aspect of the vrm and basically said its not as efficient as some of its competitors using more phases. The previous hero x that did have an 8 phase design doesn't cope with the demands of 9th gen cpu's anywhere near as well as the "beefed up 4 phase" of the xi line. It's a few months down the line now and real world results have shown that the maximus xi line up performs at least as well as its competitors. Asus told me they'd chosen this particular vrm config to reduce transient response. Possibly at the expense of some efficiency? They've put 8+2 SIC 639's on the vrm which are excellent powerstages and can provide up to 50amps continuous current per stage. They've doubled them up so can handle up to 100amps per phase. It would have cost them nothing to run them in an 8 phase config but they chose to run them in parallel.
      What's very interesting is one of the channels (gamers nexus I think) slagging the board off did a live Friday stream where they oc'd a 9900k to 5.3 on all cores and they did it on a hero xi mb.
      I've got a 9900k and hero xi and it's currently running with mce enabled so is running 5.0 on all cores, using way more power than it probably needs. In stress tests where the cpu is in the 80's the vrm is around 40,so the cpu is going to throttle at 100degrees, way before the vrm which is good for 150 degrees. So yeah, well over hyped. Jeez that took a long time to write, hope it answers your question lol.

    • @theorist5497
      @theorist5497 5 років тому +2

      Yes, yes it did, absolutely. Thank you. I really do appreciate it. I know its a bit selfish(?) of me to rely on someone to answer my question but this issue has been kind of tough to wade through all the hyperbole and this is exactly the kind of answer I was looking for. So again, my hats off to you.

    • @170adamb1
      @170adamb1 5 років тому +3

      @@theorist5497 lol, yep it is a tough issue to wade through. Asus have been completely silent on the whole issue and they were misleading in their initial advertising. Owning a hero xi I was devastated watching it get slated so put hours into trying to figure it all out. I'm no expert but can just tell you from experience it works great. I think this whole phase count has become a trying to keep up with the Joneses type thing. The tech report did a review of asus's new x299 deluxe ii. It uses the same config but with 6 phases running in parallel. On a test bench with no active cooling the vrm reached 75 degrees. The same reviewer did a review on gigabytes equivalent board that reached 95 degrees with a dedicated fan on its vrm. techreport.com/review/34295/asus-prime-x299-deluxe-ii-motherboard-reviewed. This tells me Asus have confidence in their design. If I could go back in time I would probably still buy the same board.

    • @theorist5497
      @theorist5497 5 років тому

      That's really great to hear. I had a build all planned out, utilizing the XI Code board, planning for an all core 5ghz overclock, and was at a loss when I started to do some deeper research and found all the chatter about the VRM. Im not brand loyal to Asus or anything, but the Code fit all the right checkboxes compared to other boards, plus I REALLY like their BIOS, especially when compared to my runner up pick, Gigabyte's somewhat "messy" BIOS. lol
      Anyways, its definitely nice to hear from another owner who is overclocking similarly to what I plan for. Thanks again man, you've definitely given me some confidence in my preferred choice. Cheers.

      watercooled VRMs, my biggest reason for buying -- it incorporates an EK Cross chill III block on there with G1/4 screw patterns. It has ROG liquid armor that span across the entire bottom section of the board with a backplate on the back insuring stability. More fan headers with dedicated pump and aio headers along with flowrate and coolant temperature headers. Also an OLED display in the center of the motherboard which looks cool AS FUCK and it shows vital system details like processor temperatures and stuff like that, but mainly for it's epic looks. 5 RGB zones although they are dim like the ones on the hero as well, and the formula doesn't come with preinstalled wifi card if you want to go wireless. Also I believe the VRMs are different, the formula uses fatter VRMs or something

  •  5 років тому +1

    Very interesting and informative, thanks!
    I have two questions.
    I'm considering replacing my Z170 and 6700K with a Z390 and an 8086K, a 9700K or a 9900K. My goal is very simple, to reach the highest stable clock speed using a 240mm closed loop cooler.
    Which CPU do you think would give me the best odds?
    Then to my second question.
    I've noticed how some motherboards come with 2 CPU power connectors. Under what circumstances would you need to have both connected?
    I've been told that's only when doing extreme overclocking but yet the manual for a motherboard I checked out said all power connectors need to be plugged in to ensure proper operation.
    Didn't know you have your own UA-cam channel. You just got another subscriber!
