There has always been a good "heavy metal" scene in Dallas. I would've said it's more underground than non-existent. Riley comes from a hardcore background and prob has never been to the local metal shows Dallas has to offer. Reno's, Trees, Wits End and Gas Monkey have always had good local metal acts and national acts. We also have a good handful of promoters who always book great local metal acts. The band's he mentioned are all "core" acts. Chemicaust, Embalmed, Interment, Protest, Demonseed, Warbeast are just a few of the numerous local metal acts that Dallas/Fort Worth has to offer.
Riley is not wrong. Sure, there are tons of local DFW bands -- but how many of those are putting in the work to tour nationally, or internationally? Not very many.
lol at dfw dudes salty nobody cares about their 40 garbage bands that barely draw 50 people together. they built their own scene while dallas metal ignored and continues to struggle without them. modern “dallas metal” wouldn’t be known outside of the area without bands that came from a real scene - creeping death, kombat, and steel bearing hand
