I grew up in the same town with the Parson family as well as the Snively families. Snively is Gram's family name. I saw him at the Derry Down on Cypress Gardens Road in about 1963-64 and then at the new Derry Down near McDonalds. The demon rum cursed the entire family for decades and most died young. I just wish Gram had lived as he had so much to offer and no doubt would have been iconic over the years. He was a sad kid all along and struggled to get a grip on life. Bless you Gram. Oh by the way the family were the citrus barons of Polk County and Gram had tons of money that also drove him down. How often we see that in life.
I just discovered him this year. I'm so very sad that to it took me over 50 years to find him. But, I'm so glad that I did. And I'm burning with sadness that he went to Heaven when I was just a youngun. He is God's own singer. Guess God needed him back. One more thing to look forward to, when I fly away, too. ❤️
@@gerrybradley8084 "if he lived a healthy lifestyle..." Gram Parsons, like many of his generation, was a victim of the times and his parents generation of not dealing with issues. The "silent generation" endured a lot, no doubt. But in not talking about their lives and experiences, they buried so much and then self medicated as much as they could. Back then alcohol was the usual "drug" of choice. Gram's father committed suicide and his mother was an alcoholic. They were both dead before Gram graduated high school. What is a teenager supposed to do with that? Get help? No such thing at the time. So Gram also self medicated. When he had Emmylou join his band and after some missteps they started to rehearse and coalesce into a tighter musical unit. One can clearly hear how they got better and better over time. They recorded 2 albums and toured. Finding gems like this one is special. Please don't say things like "if he lived a healthy lifestyle". He lived the only life he knew how to. Gram was straightening up, using less and making better music. But he decided to celebrate and in doing so thought he could consume what he had normally consumed in the past. Whether it was the alcohol or the morphine, he didn't know his body had weaned itself down from his previous levels of consumption. So he consumed what he used to consuming, not knowing it would kill him. This was very common in the early 1970's. There was so much we didn't know from needing talk therapy when you had parents with issues like Gram's to heroin/morphine withdrawal which meant you didn't need the large dose you last took to experience a high. The science simply wasn't available at the time. Gram Parsons was a gift we should all be happy we were blessed with. Sure, we wish he lived longer and made more great music. For whatever reason, that wasn't his path in life. Let's just be thankful for what we have and that he gave us great lyrics, musical compositions, his stellar bandmates and Emmylou Harris who has carried his legacy for many decades and still sings his songs as well as the ones she has written to honor him. Yes, he was a flawed human being, but he was one supremely talented one and who among us is perfect? I've always been curious what Gram thought about Lobo's early '70s hits. I don't think they were in touch by then, but it must've been weird to hear your old '60s bandmate crooning soft rock tunes on AM radio several years later. I don't think Stafford really broke through until after Gram passed.
I knew Gram when he was at Winter Haven High and later in my life I bought Jim Stafford’s house on Lake Florence. They were both talented in their teens. Gram sat in with our college group when he was a teen. We knew him from where he he worked at a music store in Lakeland.

Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris
I would love to have seen Gram and Jim Stafford and Lobo together back in their very young days.
We have the same avatar, and maybe the same taste in music.
That's Jock Bartley from Firefall on guitar.
yeah the guy with nice hands! Crap country player unfortunately...he just happened to be in the right place at the right time -well for him. Fortunately Gram had Neil Flanz on steel to keep it sweet.
💜💜💜💜💜💜
Gram didn't need Nashville then and Emmy doesn't need Nashville now. People tend to forget that the good music comes from South of crash Vegas...😎.p.s always has....
Gary Howard there’s plenty of great music to be had from all geographical areas.
@@weallen67 that's right just don't think that Nashville is all that after the way they have treated a lot of good musicians 😎
@@garyhoward863 Elvis and Dwight Yoakam come to mind.
From what little I know it sounds like she's done more for Nashville than it ever did for either of them.
Love this one . Which album is this off ? Thanks so much for posting
Just think who else he would have teamed up with maybe even changed to a new style that would become mainstream
Back for more.
Gram is my 7th cousin
Audiences have always been talkin a bit😅 Gram dont seem to mind❤
I think she knew Gram. She still knows.
And she still does too.
I love these bootlegs. I disagree though. Buck Owens' Hee Haw persona was awesome. I wish Gram was alive, I would love to have a few drinks and discuss the matter with him.
Noticed that the crowd got quite when Emmy started to sing. 😎
I have just about everything he has recorded. How can I possibly get a recording of this song for my personal collection
Isn't this a Buck Owens Song ? I'd say for all the Country /Rock talk about GP if you listen to his LIVE CONCERTS especially with The Fallen Angels ...He leaned way way down South.
Yes, it IS a Buck Owens song. Gram introduces the song as a Buck Owens song on the recording and the description also states that the recording is a cover of a Buck Owens song.
Buck Owens is West (Bakersfield) not South, but I take your meaning.
Tq
Buck Owen's was my next door neighbor in algona Washington.
Outstanding!
Keith Richard's must have some hidden recordings with gram in studio when they did some stuff
There is next to no live footage of Gram
Neil Flanz on pedal steel
Hi Michael See my post today above here regarding Neil Flanz at The Country Palace on Sherbrooke Street in Montreal back in the early 1960's. I have the newspaper clipping in my scrapbook. He was featured with the band Dusty King and the Country Cats same week as Bill Monroe.
@@bluegrasscannuk Neil Flanz sadly passed away this week.
@@OlafRonald I am sorry to hear that Olaf. Actually one of Neil's friends and fellow steel player is Canada's own Olie Strong who happens to be my brother in law. They live in Midland and he is still playing with wife Rae.
Is that Jay Dee Maness on pedal steel??? Nice!!! 😎
Dennis Schell, that’s not Maness, it’s Fallen Angels pedal steel player, Neil Flanz.
Neil Flanz on steel
Dennis Schell Neil Flanz
Is that George Grantham from Poco on drums?
The drummer with the Fallen Angels was N.D. Smart II.
Umm. Hey Gram: I think she knew.
