Riding a cruiser on dirt roads is not a very bright idea. The C50 is a pretty tough old bike that has been around for a very long time. All the kinks and quirks have been fixed over the years. I own one and the only thing I have ever done on it was change oil, filter, tires and adjust the valves. It runs like a dream and I plan on keeping her for a long time.

i am in europe, got the same bike from 2009. i bought it last season, rided 7000 km, here in europe its called C800 or VL800 Intruder. This video shows me, you dont need a 1500ccm bike to get around with touring. Thanks for that nice informative story.
    cheers from Austria/Vienna.

Just purchased my second Suzuki C50, another 2019 model. The first one was also a 2019 but the full-dress C50T which has the saddlebags. windscreen, etc. It was a great bike but I'm more of a purist and, thus, wanted to return to a Plain Jane. Now I'm once again a happy camper. Suzuki C50's are great motorcycles. Happy Trails, my friends.

I have had one for two years. It is wonderful and easy to maintain. The only thing I would want would be ABS as in the region in Thailand we live in there is sand and rain on the roads. I would have paid more if there were model with ABS.

Thanks for your review. I just got my boulevard c50 a year ago, on my mom's bday, so Ludy she is. You showed me that I'm treating mine like a little girl and she will like to see the outdoors, and even better that she will not mind to let her have some fun and get dirty. I got it with 6k miles (some 9 k km) and I think I'll keep her for long time. I have in view some bikes to replace it but it might not be that soon. Thanks for making me discover the deep beauty in it

Great video. I bought a 2005 Suzuki C50T with only 7,000 miles on it about 4 years ago for only $4,000 USD. Best purchase I ever made. I have added a few accessories like driving lights, Cobra pipes and a Mustang seat and it is more comfortable than a lot of bigger touring motorcycles. It has plenty of power and torque for me. The only thing I wish it had was anti-lock brakes and cruise control. Ride safe.

Beware the C90's smaller tank. That, along with the larger engine and greater weight make for less range than the C50.

I love my 06 c50t over here in the USA,tx just a little over 11,500 miles. I love this bike coming from sportbikes like the old nasty rc51, this bike is just fantastic with the fuel injection it is spot on. I have a lot of aftermarket parts like you. Cobra pipes, tune, kuyraken intake, 16"apes and mustang seat. I don't think I will ever let this beast go.

Have 30k on my 2009 C50. I didn't like it for some time but finally put a windshield on it and chucked the lousy stock seat for a Mustang with driver backrest. That made all the difference! Love riding for hours now. So far I've only done basic maintenance. No failures of any kind. The bike may not be fast or exciting but it looks good, starts every single time, doesn't leak any fluids and never breaks down.

Hey Mark, great review. If all reviews were like this, then we would all get the really useful knowledge we need which helps decide us if the bike is right for us. Without intending to, I think you've given me a great insight into the quality of Suzuki's design. How its survived some of the shit you've put it through, and to be still performing !00% is enough of a recommendation for me. Many thanks from a Pommie!

VL800 / C50 is a superb bike.. I bought a 2009 model the same year, the only issue I had was a loose connection to the speedometer (fixed during regular service maintenance). Otherwise, the bike ran perfectly fine, having provided me with some 70k km of pure joy. I still pity the fact I had to sell it in 2020.
Last year I bought an older model (a 2003 one - carbureted), with a few inexpensive fixes (exhausts mounting system change) & minor visual updates (changing the turn signals, replacing passenger footpegs for floorboards, etc..), it was still perfectly fine. The big maintenance (in my favourite service shop) cost only 200 EUR (yet, tires need to be changed this season). And yes, the bike runs perfectly fine, despite being ~20 years old.
Right now I'm riding the C90T (a 2007 model - I gave the 2003 VL800 to my GF to ride it), but I'm already squinting at a few VL800sfor sale, as for me, this 805ccm beast is a much better bike than its bigger brother - easier to manipulate on the spot, easier to handle in city traffic, more suitable for daily commuting, easier & cheaper to maintain.. Yeah, I think I found the love of my life in this bike.
BTW the lubrication issue is typically related to shops NOT doing the pre-sales checks & maintenance thoroughly, as the lubriciation of the shaft drive is listed there (at least here in the EU) - but yes, I agree, not putting in a little bit of (if I'm not mistaken) lilthium grease at the factory is just non-sensical.
LbnL a very nice video 🙂
    Ride hard & ride safe.

That was a great review. I enjoyed seeing the bike going beyond asphalt roads. Here in USA many will scream in disbelief but cruisers are good for dirt roads too. Obviously not really bad ones but transitable ones. My C50T looks just like Harry. I also have an S40 which is a smaller one but powerful too for the freeway. You should do a longer composite of different trips to see Harry in action.

    I remember it well!
Right around the time it was rolling 19000 miles. I felt it jumping on the ride home from work.
I got home and googled it and it's all over the Volusia forums about 19000 miles and the shaft failing.
And like you it was a big selling point for me I bought it brand new. 100,000 miles, no maintenance. Nothing in the manual.
    But love my M50.
Mines black and white and I just put a batwing on. Good little bike.
19000 miles, about 30000 kilometers. No coincidence mate!

We absolutely love Suzuki, price is always right and easy maintenance for the most part and long lasting. We'd much rather spend the time on the road then in the garage fixing the bike all the time like other brands :) We completely agree with you on the speeding, very well said. We had a Suzuki Boulevard S83 2 years ago and then upgraded to the Suzuki Bandit 1250s and now my DR650 along with my wife's DR200. Great video as always Mark, hope you have a marvelous day :) T4S

They were having trouble with the shafts, some friends were taking them apart and finding out there was next to no lube on some, so started just taking them apart for people and lubing them up real good and have had no problems with the ones the lubed up. So good idea to check them out to be on the safe side. I did have two and never a problem with them. and put a lot of miles on the first one and gave the second one to my sun who is still riding it.

It has been said "time is money" the moran who said that did not ride a motorbike to the mountains and cook up a brew on his snow peak stove. You don't live in money YOU LIVE IN TIME. Time on your bike in nature is where it is at.

This is a great video, really, really enjoyed it and helped me make the final decision. I was just in the cycle shop today looking at the C50 and the new Bolt. I had a 2001 Volusia (VL800) which is the father of the C50, and I loved it - moved to a Harley, then sold that and looking to get back on the road with something smaller and less work. I loved my VL800, but was taken by the slick style of the Bolt. After watching this video, I'm going back to the dealer and signing for that 2013 C50 - I can't wait to see where she'll take me, but this is inspiring - thanks for an awesome video!!

The drive shaft issue is due to it needing to be greased immediately from the manufacturer they only put a dot of lube on them and then don’t tell you it’s needed so most destroy it until they find it in a video one day. Supposed to pull shaft and 3 point grease it every time your replace your rear tire or yearly depending on tire wear

The Suzuki C50 is a nice looking bike, it has the proper cruiser style, lots of chrome, and no flat black anywhere. But there are a couple of reasons why I wouldn't ride one. At least not very far from home. The main reason is tube type tires. I've been riding on the street since age 16 in 1975, and I have had dozens of flat tires on bikes with tube type tires. It's been an absolute nightmare. A flat on a bike with tube type tires automatically means a tow truck, there is no way to fix it out on the road. I have been stranded every time I had a flat on a bike with tube type tires. I have spent thousands of $$$ in towing bills because of them. When on trips far from home, and a few close to home, I have been stranded for days, waiting on a shop to fix the tire. Just a little over 200 miles from home, on a Sunday morning ride, I had a flat. I had a roadside service plan, and they towed me to the nearest motorcycle dealership. Being Sunday, it was closed. And because they are open on Saturday, they are also closed on Monday. I stayed in a motel for 2 days, and missed two days work. The shop finally opened on Tuesday morning, and got it fixed just before closing time. Total costs for all that were around $1000. I will no longer ride a bike with tube type tires more than 25 miles from home. The other reason is not as bad, but can be a real PITA. The valves on the C50 are among the hardest to adjust of any motorcycle I know of. I'm a recently retired auto mechanic, and I wouldn't try it.
I am currently riding a 2002 Kawasaki Vulcan 750, also known as a VN750. I bought it new, and have put just over 118,000 miles on it. That's 190,000 km. It definitely shows some wear, but still runs like new. I have ridden all over the U.S. and parts of Canada and Mexico on it. It has cast wheels and tubeless tires. In 190,000km, I have had ONE flat tire on it. I would have had at least a dozen flat tires in that distance if it had tube type tires. And I was able to plug the puncture, reinflate the tire, and ride several hundred more miles on it. It also has shaft drive, which I love. Many VN750 owners have had their shaft drives fail. There are two reasons for that. One, they did not properly lubricate the driveshaft splines at the factory, and the first driveshaft service is at 10,000 miles. By then there would likely be significant damage to both the driveshaft itself, and the final drive assembly. Fortunately I found out about this problem on a VN750 forum before buying the bike. As soon as I got my new bike home, I took the shaft drive apart, and sure enough it was completely dry. The splines need to be lubed with something that is 60-75% MOLY. NOT regular wheel bearing grease. I use Honda Moly 60 paste. Properly maintained, that original driveshaft is still working fine. The other big problem with the VN750 is defective automatic cam chain tensioners. Kawasaki Made the VN750 completely unchanged from 1985-2006, and never fixed that problem. New oem cam chain tensioners will last about 10,000 miles before they fail, and failure usually causes catastrophic engine failure. Fortunately the aftermarket came up with some very well made manual cam chain tensioners that don't fail. A couple of other problems are carburetors that are extremely difficult and time consuming to remove and reinstall. Mine have only been off once, because of the other VN750 problem. A stator failure required the engine to be removed to replace the stator. It's a $2500 job at a Kawasaki dealer. In did it myself in my spare time, and while I had the engine out, took the time to remove, clean, and replace several parts in the carburetors. All of these problems would have been easy to solve, but Kawasaki never did. Just being aware of them can help prevent everything but stator failure, which wouldn't be such a big deal if you didn't have to remove the engine. The VN750 has hydraulic valves, so no adjustment is necessary.
Overall I have been very happy with my Vulcan 750 over the past 21 years and 118,000+ miles (190,000kms) It's getting about time to retire it. Since nobody makes a carbureted bike anymore, I'm probably going to replace it with a 2004-2006 low mileage carbureted Harley Sportster 1200. I don't need the problems that go with EFI

I'm planning to buy a C50T for my wife. I've done a lot of research and lots of people are saying the bike really needs a 6th gear for longer trips on the highway. They claim lots of vibration. Has that been an issue with you?

Great review. Rode a 2009 for about 50,000 km. Vancouver British Columbia to Toronto thru Michigan etc. down Phoenix and back home to Van. to Las Vegas a few times. lost the drive shaft at about 45,000 km in northern California. Had to trailer it home. Expensive van rental, but only 220.00 for parts. did the labor myself. very practical bike. good on highway and in town. Range a bit short. I'm 6'2" and 200 lbs. Decent size for me, but not great 2 up. have moved up to 2013 c90t. Really nice touring bike. Bit less nimble around town, but wonderful power and torque for the highway and 2 up no problem.. Hope the driveshaft hangs in there. Thanks for the vid, mate.

Enjoyable adventure with you, need more adventurous rides that the rest of us can attend like in this video. I think that if you purchased a Yamaha V star 1100 you would be very happy with it. The C 50 really is a good bike though but the 1100 V is the best bike in the world for a cruiser !! Test drive one and you will just have to get one trust me. It's fantastic. Your next adventure should be a long ride to the beach where you will grill a small steak and serve it up with a fruit salad and Tea or make shish ka bobs and talk to beautiful women on the beach. Now we're talkin ... .. ..

Biker Bits....Hello, good video. I have a 2006 C50 but the only thing I could never get used to were the foot controls (floorboards and toe heel shifter) so I'm swapping them out for a set of M50 foot controls (pegs and toe shifter). That should do it for me...

I enjoyed video and very good about putting the rubbish in your pocket a lot of people don't I sometimes will end up cleaning up an area before I leave it. And where I live in the state of Maine in the US there are hundreds and hundreds of little places to find we have all kinds of mountain ranges along the coast and inland. A lot of little waterfalls to visit and ski resorts in the summertime all kinds of lakes I always travel the back country roads I stay away from the highways. I've had many motorcycles in my lifetime. Honda's, suzuki's, yamaha's, Indian Chieftain, Indian Challenger, Royal enfield, Triumph Bonneville 120 and Can-Am Spyder. I traded the Triumph Bonneville in for the 2022 Suzuki Boulevard C50T I like that little portable stove he was that was pretty cool. I purchased the boulevard 2 months ago you have 4,000 miles on it it's a little over 6,000 km when they first came out they were called Volusia 800s and I purchased one but close to 100,000 miles on it and it was still going good when I sold it. I decided to go with a lighter cruiser 200 pounds lighter than my Indian chieftain makes a big difference. And the tie as you changed out I probably would have put a few more thousand miles on them. Keep the rubber side down if you can stay off that sand LOL some of the writing you did you should have been on the adventure bike these cruises I don't really meant for the dirt. The drive shaft assembly does have a little vent cap on it you going to deep enough water you're going to have water inside your drive shaft where you put the gear oil.

I got off of an 06 Sportster(that was eat'n me up $ wise) & onto this Boulevard with "NO REGRETS".
