More and more I realize that at my age I may not live to see the Purnon project when it is completely finished. More and more I come to appreciate the people involved. The effort to restore and remain faithful to her history is evident. M. Dicier is a wonder and the decision to hire him was wise. I have lost interest in chateau restorations that seem more inclined to turn these wonderful buildings into simple money makers. Thank you for what you are doing and thank you for sharing the journey.

Thank you for your message. It is probable that we won't see all of the estate restored in our life time. Perhaps this is not important. It is enough to save what we can, knowing that if we had not embarked on this project within a few years it would have been too late. We are thrilled that you are taking joy in the authenticity of what we are doing under the leadership of Monsieur Didier. For us, it has never been about a pathway to personal profit - instead for us the focus is on saving something of rare beauty, respecting heritage and sharing the journey with others who share our passion.

We often say here that Chateau de Purnon is whispering to us through the centuries and if we just lean in and listen we can hear her stories. Perhaps through these remarkable objects she is delicately whispering to us. Thanks for your message.

I know you feel lucky to have found Purnon; I think she is also lucky that you are the ones who became her custodians! It does seem like all the workers you've found have also come to love the chateau--a community built around shared love of a marvelous building and shared concern that she get the best care. It's a marvelous thing.

In so many ways, the chateau is the French equivalent to the discovery of King Tut's tomb. Every room holds treasures hidden away from view until now, be it architecture or period furniture. As Howard Carter said upon peering into Tut's tomb and being asked what he saw, he replied, "Wonderful things!"
    This is Chateau de Purnon.

Each week I am overwhelmed by the condition Purnon was in when you found her. The staircase and billiard table brought tears to my eyes but with the amazing research and knowledge of Mr. Didier, she is being brought back to her former beauty. I am in awe of the young artisans who are tirelessly involved in the work being accomplished. Thank you, as always, for allowing us on your journey of this most important restoration.

Finding the billiard table and finding the architect are true treasures. Your journey is fascinating. The production and editing of this video did not disappoint...the story of the human hair in the render makes sense...and I learned the reason they throw the render was to make certain it got behind the lattice...You take this community on a time travel with each video...thank you so much for sharing...

I am a 3D artist and have some weeks of free time till my next contract begins on October 1st, so I started looking for references for a "just for fun" private project when my previous contract ended a few days ago. I decided to create something historic, not knowing yet if it will be just one single object or maybe an historic building. So I was watching a few videos of historic buildings 4 days ago, and your video tour from July 7th showed in my recommendations almost instantly. I was hooked from the start and have already watched around 20 of your videos (and will watch them all in the coming weeks and months, that's for sure.) Yes, I was kind of binge watching, and the videos I already watched, all of them I watched twice. The first watch/pass just to enjoy and admire your commitment and passion for this beautiful château, 2nd pass with the eye of an artist, stopping the videos often and looking at items, thinking of how I would create something similar in my 3D software.
Seeing this beautiful attic space and the billiard table, I instantly had an image in my mind how the space might have looked back then and hopefully will look again some time in the future. Of course I would never try to "copy" something, and this is your property, but I decided to do a similar space with an old billiard table as my private project, letting Château de Purnon inspire me.
Thank you very much for your awesome videos, and your dedication to do this renovation the "right way". Reawakening her, that is exactly the right description for what you are doing. Thank you!

Thanks for your message. We're thrilled that our project to save Chateau de Purnon has provided the inspiration for your historic recreation of a billiard table and the space to enjoy it. Best wishes and thank you for sharing your story with us.

Thank you for your message. You're quite correct - we are certain that the engagement of our architect has transformed our project. With a heritage listed building such as Chateau de Purnon it is a requirement that we use a suitably qualified heritage architect. Thank you also for acknowledging the extraordinary skills of our craftsmen - without them saving Chateau de Purnon would be impossible.

Such a wonderful journey of discovery, on so many levels (literally). I'm also really enjoying the music you're using. I'm not sure if it's a generic part of your editing app. But at 17:45 it's especially lovely. Like Nyman meets Morricone.
And yes, M. Didier is a gem.

How i adore old things! This chateau just takes it to the highest limit. Finding the billiard table and discovering the original use if that room is so very fascinating! That view from the window, wow!
Are those the pool cues in the back ground towards the end of your video?

    •  2 місяці тому

We're thrilled you enjoyed this video. Yes, they are - but we're not certain they are the original cue sticks as they are not quite the correct shape for that era. We're doing some further research.

Wow !! What a wonderful discovery that Billiard table. An item that surely deserves restauration in future and perhaps ought to become a Museum piece.
A question did arise, climbing up to the Billiard room, I saw the walls of the staircase, which were decorated with Fleur de Lis, not surprising since the builder was a Royalist, and I wondered, were the painted onto the wall, or are those walls decorated with Wallpaper too?

Thank you for your message. You're quite correct about the motif. They were applied by stencil.

It is really amazing the history that is being uncovered in the chateau. I knew about the various fibers used in the rough render that is placed on first, but never heard of human hair being used. As the layers are pealed back, the finds are amazing. I enjoy each new discovery and the explanation of how the chateau was built, the techniques that were used. More importantly the research that is being done to replicate the original materials and methods. Thank you for such detailed information. from Saskatchewan, Canada

This is such a wonderful video. The engineering of the staircase reconstruction was fascinating-there are so many exceptionally talented people working on your project. Watching the men rebuild the walls with the rocks and mortar was so impressive, too. The use of human hair is another way the restoration is so authentic. The billiard table will be a work of art and yet another valuable treasure. I absolutely love your channel.

brilliant as ever...I'm utterly thrilled with the billiard table and the lighting structure- that is just a top notch find- and to have spied one of the original sconces for the lighting structure- yes Msr Didier reaffirms why he is worth his weight in platinum on this project!
The stairwell- an entire video could go into that or more- that is an utterly immense undertaking...
The human hair- I do entirely get- nothing went to waste- and whilst it is not the most common solution- the tensility of it probably achieved the needs that they knew such a complex roof and ceiling line required.
Bless the wise words: save everything and loose nothing because it all contains a clue. Purnon is blessed the two of you were the ones that came along, indeed. all the best :) Karen /Reading

When Matthieu discovered the human hair, and matching all the materials as they were, Frederic's well-rounded knowledge of almost everything it seems, you definitely picked the right Architect and team. So, thank you for sharing your journey with us as you slowly wake up this sleeping beauty. Love from N.Y.

You guys are great in ways I did not see until they appeared! ❤ A video or two ago, you discussed the escape of one of the ancestors, and that sent me in the direction of Napoleon's ascendence. As I was looking at Napoleon's stint at the top, and the politics as the 1790s revolution evolved, I stumbled across the 1848 revolutions!!! (My elementary education didn't include that at all! Wow! )
The De la Haye (spelling?) family was certainly having a long run of, well, ... what timing! What an amazing time machine you have there! My dad was the professor, but it looks to me like you've got maybe a unique angle into that span of history. "How the lesser nobility adapted to changing socioeconomic realities..."
I'm under the impression that most history is written from the point of view of those who commissioned the writer. In your case, I am getting the impression of a more first hand account, as they rode the wild thing down. Truly educational! (IMHO:-)
Keep going! I think you're adding a lot more than the restoration itself!
