Use a step drill bit would eliminate the filing

yes at that time, and in fact even now I didn't have the step drill so I had to put extra sweat
the filing gets you a tight fit though, not sure if the step drill can achieve that, maybe if you are lucky the step would fit the bolt nicely.
please remember that the table is very heavy (400kg / 800 lbs), so it's good to have tight tolerance on the holes embracing the bolts.

I wonder how heavy that full meta thick solid steel bars fabrication table is
I bet these casters are carrying some serious load.

I will calculate the exact weight of this fabrication table one day.
I think it is at least 250 kg = 550 lbs
even 2 people wouldn't be able to move it without the casters installed

Why didn't you use some washers 🙂

I did use the washers on the mild steel side as it's only 2 mm thick, to avoid denting by the bolt head. ( see here ua-cam.com/video/95D3-K63tZY/v-deo.html )
The aluminum reinforcer is 1/4 inch thick, so it didn't need the washers, and the nut is sufficient, as it is not denting the aluminum piece + steel wall adjacent to each other.

@@TigerCarpenter i see what you mean and i saw you used washers on the other side, but i still think it's good practice to use washers especially on a softer metal! 😅

@@AlessioSangalli these are non moving parts, you just tighten the nut on the 1/4 inch aluminum angle, and forget it. if it was a clamp or latch, I would have used the washer on the aluminum side. I tried it without the washer, and it didn't dent or distort the aluminum because it is supported by the steel workbench leg stiffness.
so you can imagine that the 3mm steel leg tubing itself is even stronger and stiffer than the 0.8 mm washer.

@@AlessioSangalli using self locking nuts is good castle nuts or nyloks
