    The best thing about this channel is that Matt gets to drive some of the most expensive and fastest cars in the world but can still have a blast in a 26k car with a few decent mods.

    Had this car for just over 2 years now and added a stage 1 Mountune upgrade after 1 year.It is by far the best car i have ever owned. I usually change my cars every year or so but there is nothing out there to compete so i am sticking with it along with the smile on my face.

    Well done, matt.. you just explained what i have been trying too for years about why i love my 98 Spec JDM Type R Honda, with 190whp double wishbone suspension all round and 2380 lbs, i have never felt the need to own another RWD car again.

    I got the 2 door. I was waiting for the car to come out for a few years from concept. The stock 197Hp and 240Nm Torque is fine but the figures I watch in the vid was amazing. I know why the announcer is so excited and happy driving this car. Just no words to describe just how fun these little cars are. :)

    Just picked mine up yesterday and took it to the canyons today! the way this car can pull a hill is amazing. even running up hill I could put on speed so easily. Even getting after it I rarely past 5k rpm because the powerband is just so wide!. Can't wait to get an access port on this thing! I've been a serious performance car guy for 18 years and never though a little FWD hot hatch would impress me like this. And it seats 4, gets 35mpg highway and cost less than 25k!

    Man, American cars have a ton of torque compared to other manufacturers. 300 pound feet from a 1.6 with just bolt ons? In the 90s people would laugh in disbelief of that power from such a small engine! New found respect for ford! Loving their cars recently! Great review Matt!

    Power numbers at the crank based on dyno results (with 15% drivetrain loss);
    STOCK: 225 HP and 278 ft lb
    STAGE 3: 255 HP and 338 ft lb
    100 OCTANE TUNE: 282 HP and 374 ft lb = lol insane!

    Are stainless steel lines really necessary these days? I read somewhere that modern synthetic plastics have advanced so much that brake lines aren't really a weak point in modern cars now a days. Darn it Matt. I was all locked into getting a Fiesta ST but I need to carry enough DJ Equipment for up to 200 people a few times each month, so I started looking at the Focus ST. This thing would easily run 12's on slicks (with the mods you have made) and the brakes are small enough to use 15" wheel and M&H 23" slick. This was my plan, the handling stock is great, it makes just enough power stock and I totally agree: this car is better suited for Streets of Willow than Big Willow and I would be happy with a car that I could occasionally autocross, yet take to the strip and embarrass a few people. Decisions, Decisions, Decisions and I don't have a car at the moment which adds to the drama... lol

    Matt, if you're getting a delay after shifting you might be just touching the rev limiter on shift. I had that happen a few times on 1-2 shifts and it took me a while to figure out, but when I started shifting lower like 5500 (because first revs so fast) then it bangs like an N/A car with no delay.

    • @TheSmokingTire
      @TheSmokingTire  9 років тому +3

      RainAfterMidnightTV stage rally is so fun. I've done 2 rounds at Dirtfish Rally School and had a blast, and learned more about car control than any other form of racing school. amazing left foot braking is how you win at rallying. good skill to have. But to actually commit to going out and racing is either very expensive, very time consuming, or (more often) both. So I like the occasional Lemons/Chump race where I can buy a seat and have some fun for a weekend.

    I find interesting that Americans have only found pocket rockets in the last 2 years!
    Europe has had for more than 20 years: Polo GTi, Abarth Punto (not the shit box 500), Corsa OPC (VXR), Fiesta ST, Clio RS, Peugeot GTi, Citroen DS3, Suzuki Swift Sport, Seat Ibiza Cupra. Older versions might have had other names, but they've produced fast cars for 20 years!
    These were cars that no one ever thought would sell in the US because they are quite smaller than the tipical american car, but it seems thats when you guys drive them, you love them!

    Matt, love these videos dude! I'm really tempted to get this car, how much do you think you would have spent on this for all the stages at Cobb so far (if you were a full paying customer)? I put down $500 on a Golf R but I'm kinda thinking I'd rather save $18,000 and get a FiST and eventually some upgrades. First stop will be Latigo I reckon!
    See you in Venice all the time, next time I see you at Townhouse I'll say hi and we can talk shit about smoking tires!

    Loving these FiST updates! Would love to see this with a Quaife, water/meth, and some sticky tires.

    That road is insane! Nice and twisty - perfect for light *coughing* and nimble cars... :-)
