It looks like the same engineers who have done major reversals in the past are officially on-board. I do go to Defcon and have heard a few things that will be exciting. As of now, it's an alpha with what's built being functional. Apple added a feature to install other OSs a while ago. I was told picking the Windows install option and using a Linux/BSD iso just works. That's easy enough if you can actually unlock the device. Hell, maybe I will hop on board. Talk about a project I can get behind. I'd be a better fit for fw/bootloader reversal/development but... it takes a community! I wouldn't send these to a landfill just yet.

I have one for purchase. 2020 MacBook activation locked. New with box
My old company told me to keep the macbook they gave me because it was too much trouble to get it back but it is still locked. Not sure what to do with it, should I sell for parts?
If they gave it to you then they should be happy to release the lock so you can use it
@@RDKLInc I wish, the manager let me have it but thats because they didn’t know who in IT to reach out for. It’s a massive company so I don’t even know where to start. I do have my own laptop that I’m happy with tho
How can i buy some?
You have a lot of these machines been sold on eBay right now. So the question is what do I do if I buy a used Apple laptop from ebay that is locked?
You immediately return it. It's against eBay policy to sell locked laptops. Check out my most recent video on buying used Apple devices and what you need to do to stay safe.
Can you help me with my 2020 Mac Mini M1?
When I traded in my m1 macbook air, it was actually a bit of a headache to deal with because they had me do the remote wipe instead of logging out, so I had to get to a second computer to release it.
Who is they? I mean, you can disconnect from iCloud and then do a restore in recovery mode on any Mac, and that takes care of it. But I agree, it's not at all an obvious or straightforward process. That doesn't excuse people for not doing it, but the bad design is definitely a huge part of the problem, and that's on Apple.
@@RDKLInc They being a campus Apple authorized retailer. They didn't do a good job of communicating what needed to be done to make a successful trade-in, making the process a total headache.
My remote job laid me off and said i could keep the laptop. They wiped the laptop remotely and now i cant unlock it. The apple ID is linked to a previous employee who quit 3 years ago and their email is defunct. So i lost my job and now i have an unusable laptop. (They did give me a signed letter on company letterhead stating serial number macbook xyz is being released to me.) Gonna see if apple will accept that. Otherwise my brother can have it for parts
I would ask your previous employer about it. They clearly intended to leave you with a working laptop, so if their word is good they should swap it out. It’s a common problem that a corporate laptop gets stuck on a previous employee iCloud, so the IT guy should understand what’s going on and that they gave you a bad machine.
I have a perfectly fine M1 Mac Mini, but before to sell, I reinstall the OS and woalaa "ACTIVATION LOCK" previous owner? last time when I see it was 2021 in other country... so yes... is locked. And Apple just don´t care. It's like Apple telling you "Don't you like it? So always buy a new Apple"
Well, YOU bought a used Mac with an activation lock on it. That is YOUR fault.
@@AmanOU2be No kiddo, the machine was buy with the OS active and my first screen when I plugged to my screen was the "select your country" the machine NEVER EVER notified me that the machine has a lock, I used it with my real iCloud for 3 years straight, from Monterrey to Sonoma. My fault? ok sucker.
I'm sure there will come a day when either Apple comes to their senses or a backdoor solution will become widely accessible. When that day comes, those sitting on 1,000 MacBook are in for a treat.
We should push towards fining Apple for every single device that's locked but not stolen or lost.
There is no way to document these machines accurately in order to fine them. Most are destroyed behind the closed doors of recyclers
just wanted to ask can you just replace the hard drive on the computer and will that work
@@nguyendang3194 nope like I said in the video it’s based on serial number

These things cost so much in my country, only rich people have them !
True.
I cant believe no one has found a way to bypass this they would be millionaires 😂
bravo!!! this isn't "Environmentally friendly"! apple claims to be green... ahh that's my rant... I'm a small fry collector and I have about 2 apple bricks... at this very moment, I was seeking answers and refusing to believe that I'm SOL. I even looked into T203.. but I got me a white whale M2 15' and the T2 is integrated with the M2.. thank you for making this video I really support it.. your solution of 1 Month and then unlock is brilliant !! that's how it should be
That's Good for Security
Is there a way to unlock
Hi bro did u get any way please help me mine also 2020 macbook air m1
I bought a Mac M1 2020 and without knowing how it entered recoveyactivate mode, I asked Apple for support with proof that it belongs to me, I sent an invoice for my purchase, but they refused to help me, now I'm without a Mac and with twelve installments to pay, What do I do, help!
@@adrianaturela9165 you go to the seller and make them take it back. It’s against eBay policy to sell locked devices, they will back you up
@@RDKLInc I bought it on Amazon
I'm not a red team type, but can't we flash the roms and just plan on wiping the drive after? Are we missing an unencrypted rom dump to put back in? Some of that hardware is nice enough to build from metal up IMHO. I'm not a mac guy but it'd be a nice Linux/BSD machine. FOSS community will prevail even if it takes too long 😅
I wouldn't even know where to go looking for that firmware tbh. Never done stuff like this. I've flashed roms for tiano/coreboot/etc but nothing stock lol
Apple Silicon is highly proprietary, can't do Linux
@RDKLInc Asahi Linux is in alpha and doing great so far. They have a decent team assembled from the looks of it, too. That's not the hard part. The FW will be the last domino to fall (if some wizard hasn't done it already).
Does it run natively on the computer, or in some sort of virtual machine? And will it work on an Activation Locked M1? Last I heard it could run on T2 Macs but not Apple silicon@@goofballbiscuits3647
@RDKLInc I haven't personally used it. I was given one of these FW locked macs and started researching.
In Pakistan, A guy is selling mdm locked MacBook pro 2021 model (m1 pro chip). He bypassed it through a software. Now he is selling it on a very cheap rate. Should i buy this MacBook? He gave me surity that it will never make a problem untill i reset it (then i have to bypass it again & it tooks 15 minutes to bypass).

Oh well, at least they stopped giving us chargers to reduce ewaste eh?
sad how these perfectly good macbooks have to get scrapted
would replacing a new board work with a non icloud lock one ?
probably but a bit pricey.
Yes it will. I've done it
This is biggest apple problem, once you screwup apple id and password mine screwed up, can;t open login. I never suggest to buy apple mac book any apple device. once you paid $1200 it should be yours how you use but not once forgot password you are done,
Can a screen from a locked 2021 macbook pro be used as a donar? Yes I have cracked my screen 😅.
Yes, but any Touch ID sensor will probably not work after.
Greed
My own Iphone 6 was locked because I lost my old email ID. and someone else created gamil account with same email ID which my dad used just for mandatory email login. Email id lost, apple Iphone locked forever now!
Probably done on purpose by apple, thats thousands of units that won't hit the used market and take sales away from apple. Consider all the people buying used corporate thinkpads for cheap as an example.
Their are some apps that you pay to bypass your pc

How does an M1 Macbook Pro get into Activation lock? Is this an OS glitch?

Companies should be scored by repairability index of their products instead of DEI index when weighing in for finance. The culture of repairability (reuse) is being replaced by these monopolistic practices.
But do you really think a repairability score is going to prevent anyone buying Apple? I sure don’t
@@RDKLInc Yeah. You are right. I was thinking from investors perspective but now realize that such a score is not going to stop an investor from buying Apple stock either. Only a regulation that allows government to charge higher taxes for lower repairability score would be 'heard'. EU did achieve this, but only for usb-c enforcement.
those solutions are well intentioned, but they involve a mindboggling amount of government control and bureaucracy. Best thing we can do is sue these companies for violations of our property rights
