I tutor IB students locally, and they have exactly the experience Susannah described. What i notice is that students are encouraged to have an enquiring mind, but they aren't taught how to fit all of that material into a 2 year period. It is one of the main reasons i felt a need to join your community, Gretchen. The two-year period is truly soul-destroying for so many of them. At that level there arent enough hours in the day to teach everything so it is critical they know specifically how to become independent learners.
