EDIT: I said 260Hz when I meant 60Hz on the intelligage, and this generator only runs 5 hours on a 20lb tank of propane instead of the 14.5 that I stated.

Bill I want to give you a heads-up on a youtube video that was posted about running only on propane (which is what I do)... Person said to check carb. occasionally to see if there is water in the bowl...He only ran on propane, and realized that gen. was starting to run a little poorly....He found out that there was water condensing in carb. bowl from the cold propane that was going through it...Just a heads-up you might want to pass along to your subscribers....I was glad I found that video, because I will be more vigilant in the future...
Edit: Name of video is: I broke my champion generator by never adding this fluid....Posted by: We Can Explore It It sure gave me something to think about

You are exactly right. You should run a quart of gasoline once a month to dry out carburetor. I run my dry then use full choke and start again to get all the gasoline run out. The moisture will trash your machine.

Mine will not start on gasoline, only LPG. Any thoughts? New unit in June, filled gasoline with STABILZE, and only used today 10/28/2020. Only start/ run LPG. Will attempt to start on gasoline with Starter Fluid yet will not stay running. We are on three days of ice destroying our property here in Oklahoma City and propane is very expensive I’m only getting 4 1/2 hours per bottle at $20 per bottle. It sounds like your gas went bad If it started in gas mode then stalled. If it started(turned over) at all it is your gas. If your gas is bad.you will have to drain your gas tank and carburetor then fill it with new gas. If it didn't start at all in gas mode. I am sure it is your Battery. Check your battery with a voltmeter. It will not start in gasoline mode with a low battery. Try jump-starting your generator with your car battery. I have replaced 2 batteries in the last 3 years. If you have to get a new battery put a trickle charger on it when you put your generator back in storage. Let me know if this helped.

Bill, at 2:45 when you point out the itella-gauge, mine won't light up? Also, I am very confused about the propane v.s. gasoline settings. I thought the propane setting would be seen with the gas setting covered......but you show the yellow cover covering the propane setting, with the gas setting vertically set?? Plus, I can find nowhere in the Champion manual that shows the propane setting to be turned on, in the horizontal setting v.s. the vertical setting. Which setting is it actually turned on? We ran this model last winter during an event where the power was off for 3-4 days, but I guess I've totally forgotten how to re-start it......(guess it's my old age, LOL). Now when testing it for this year's hurricane season, IT WON"T START??????

    • @billteachesyoustuff9358

You completely bypass the fuel selector valve. You have to turn off the propane or natural gas at the source. The only setting you have is for gasoline.

When you convert your generator to tri-fuel by adding add a new regulator you completely bypass the fuel selector valve on the propane and natural gas sides. You have to turn off the generator at the source, propane at the bottle, and natural gas at the gasline.

    Hi Bill,
So I have run my generator twice on gasoline (now it won't start). I had turned the battery switch off, but left the ignition switch on (by accident), would that have been the reason why it won't start now?
When I went to try to electric start it, then engine would not turn, it just made an electric sound like (errrrrrrrr). So I tried to start it with the pull cord, still not starting.
I pulled the cord once in the choke position, then put it the run position, and nothing.
Do you think its the battery? A spark plug?
I will try to start it with the propane and see what happens.
Unfortunately it has gasoline in it while in being stored.
I try to start it up every month or so to keep things running, but now it won't start.
    Thank you for any help

What I will do to answer most of your questions is to make a video zooming in on the choke when starting the generator. It has been in the high 90s here in San Diego CA so I will try to get it done soon. Also, I think your oil sensor may be bad or stuck open. Bill, my battery is dead. I'm not getting spark when I pull the cord. Is it because the battery is dead that there is no spark? Is that related to the energizing of the solenoid or some other issue, like the ignition coil?

You should have a spark from your spark plug when pull starting your generator. Your ignition module ( ignition coil ) may be bad. Your spark has nothing to do with your solenoid. Remember you can not pull stark your Champion dual fuel generator in gasoline mode without a charged battery.

Hi there. I have a 3500w Dual Fuel Inverter. I rarely use it because I just retired and was renovating my Class C motorhome thru the Covid crap. Already put another carb and it started. Kept the old one and cleaned it. I did put stabilizer in the gas and I should know cause I have a motorcycle also...anyhow I run it with propane and want to stay that way. Don't want to deal with carbs. It even runs my 13500 btu AC in Eco no problem. But yesterday I went to started and the exhaust had a funny noise. Louder and sputtery. Left it running a bit bit it didn't sound right. Checked the spark plug and it was ok. Its running rough. It only has 14hrs used. Its 2 years old. Battery is strong. I shut it off and it wouldn't start after. $1200 including shipping. I love it but any ideas? Thanks

Is there a question? I would drain the gas tank or run it dry if your gasoline is over a year old. If your generator is a dual-fuel I would switch to propane for storage that way you would still have fuel if you need your generator. You can buy fresh gasoline as needed if you want to run your generator on gasoline which is a lot cheaper than propane. I only run my generator on propane. I don't want to deal with the problems that go with gasoline spoiling and ethanol.

    Hi Bill,
Thank you for the video. I have a champion dual fuel that won't start. It was purchased last year, run only on gas and serviced before it was stored for the winter at the cottage...some fuel remained in the tank at the time of storage with stabilizer added and the cylinder slightly lubricated...
I have yet to try the propane, but the gas option certainly isn't working. One thing you mentioned in the video has me thinking its potentially the culprit. Can you confirm that if the battery is dead or very low the gas option won't work even if pull started??? The battery light does turn on but the mechanic mentioned that the battery was in poor shape...
If thats the case, based on your video it seems like I can pull start the unit with a poor battery while using propane. Is that correct?
Last question and this one is a bit stupid... if I have tried the gas without success do I have to do anything prior to trying the propane option? Or is the combustion system in the unit separate for each fuel type. I was worried about fuel types mixing as I can only find 1 spark plug on the system. Then again, propane may have its own system all together.
Thank you and id be happy to send my email if that helped you send a response.

Yes, you can pull start your generator in the Propane mode without a battery. The generator carburetor is set to propane mode when there is not enough voltage left to switch it over to gas mode. As long as the spark plug is good you should be able to pull start your generator in propane mode. Don't forget about the choke. Also, the propane and gas systems are the same systems. The only thing different is the selected Fuel, they share the same carburetor. When you use propane it should be fine unless the gas gunked up the carburetor. I think it will start in propane mode. I use Ethanol free gasoline and get a lot longer run time per gallon in my Champion generator. “Generally, the more ethanol in gasoline the lower your fuel efficiency will be,". "Go up to E85, for example, there's generally 20 percent less energy in E85 than 100% gasoline, so you generally get 20% lower fuel efficiency,"…. E15 or higher is illegal to use in boats or other gasoline-powered equipment in the United States, because due to the water absorbing properties of ethanol, it can damage the components.

issue of the carb. If it does not start , it could be a bad magneto or ignition coil or plug.
U can't really expect the battery to stay good and up for a few yrs at a time. u ought to put it
