She openly profiteered off of the nazi policies towards Jews and gypsies.

One day I walked in and his workers must have been slacking off and I heard my Grandpa say "If any of you White boy's worked as hard as Tommy "The Nigg*r" we would be getting Sh#t done on time". My Grand Dad was not a racist he was just from a different era. He served in WWII and belonged to the American Legion until he died at the age of 96 and he had several Black friends that were also members. A few of the remaining ones participated at his funeral in the "21 Gun Salute".

Bill is completely accurate because, It was the times! I grew up in the 70's & 80's and men were not men if they didn't hit their women. The last time I saw my dad is when they were taking him away in the ambulance after my mom broke a cast iron skillet over his head! He'd just thrown me through the 3rd story window of our house and I landed in the mud, mom said it sounded like two wet palms clapped together and a grunt! 🤣 She clocked him as he was turning on her, I was lucky to be able to roll out of the way before he fell on the mud beside me. I was 5 and it was 1976. I was sent to Michigan to live with my grandpa and I loved it. ❤
Sorry for the long comment. I'm here by myself and I have stories. 😊

    From Wikipedia:
    World War II
In 1939, at the beginning of World War II, Chanel closed her shops, maintaining her apartment situated above the couture house at 31 Rue de Cambon. She said that it was not a time for fashion;[30] as a result of her action, 4,000 female employees lost their jobs.[8]: 101  Her biographer Hal Vaughan suggests that Chanel used the outbreak of war as an opportunity to retaliate against those workers who had striked for higher wages and shorter work hours in the French general labor strike of 1936. In closing her couture house, Chanel made a definitive statement of her political views. Her dislike of Jews, reportedly sharpened by her association with society elites, had solidified her beliefs. She shared with many of her circle a conviction that Jews were a threat to Europe because of the Bolshevik government in the Soviet Union.[8]: 101
During the German occupation, Chanel resided at the Hotel Ritz. It was noteworthy as the preferred place of residence for upper-echelon German military staff. During this time, she had a romantic liaison with Baron Hans Günther von Dincklage, a German aristocrat and member of Dincklage noble family. He served as diplomat in Paris and was a former Prussian Army officer and attorney general who had been an operative in military intelligence since 1920,[8]: 57  who eased her arrangements at the Ritz.[8]:

It would be noteworthy to add that slavery was/is not something that was a uniquely US occurrence. It's gone on all over the world for thousands of years and sadly continues to this day, China being a current example. The next time you're thinking of buying any number of "US" products being manufactured in China , you might want to pause and give a moments thought for the Uyghurs who've been enslaved by the CCP to work in many of those "western" factories and are also being used for organ harvesting. Slavery has always been the powerful taking advantage of the weaker for their own uses. It's happened to many different races over the millennia. The sad fact of the African slave trade to the US is that it was actually strong African groups that conquered weaker groups, took them to the coast, and sold them to the slave traders. If not for that, there would have been few if any slaves brought to and used in America.

Potentially reparations, not being hired because quotas, being labeled racists for absolutely no reason other than the color of their skin (by definition "racist"), college admissions because of quotas, etc.

Excellent point about the historical context, it's just that I don't know if I like it. I mean, there's only so far you can get with, "they didn't know it was wrong!" Because I'm pretty sure slavery was wrong even when slavery wasn't generally considered wildly racist and twice as evil. Like when the Nazis were trying to defend themselves in court after WW2 by saying, "We were just following orders!" And that defense didn't go well.

Miss Brit, a quick suggestion? When he is discussing Coco Chanel's knees-down method for survival, puffing out your cheeks like Monica Lewinsky withholding evidence is not good.
Like Bill, though, who am I to judge? The women of Chad are quite proud of the fact that they invented circular breathing as a form of self-defence against their husbands.

You tripped out on the Porsche thing, fact is that Volkswagen (or People's Car) was designed by Hitler and Porsche so that everybody in Germany could have a vehicle to drive on Hitler's new Autobahns. Another thing, you know the BMW logo? That's supposed to represent a propeller coz they're the company that built the engines for the Messerschmidts. One more bonus fact, you know Bayer? Yeah, that's the company that manufactured Zyklon B gas for the concentration camps and we're still giving all these companies our money, let that sink in for a minute

let’s see FIAT made fighters for Facist Italy, German bombers and fighters had Daimler-Benz (Mercedes) and BMW engines, the most used motorcycle in the German Army was a BMW. Volkswagen was Hitler's brainchild. Mikoyan, Gurevich and Yakovlev built aircraft for the Soviet 'ally' and then the 'enemy' of the western powers in the cold war. The nuclear weapons were only used twice in history, and the bombs were made in the U.S. and carried to the target by Boeing aircraft. Drugs company Bayer, who during the war were called IG Farben made the Zyklon B gas used to murder Jews.

Everything he said was facts. Coco did what she did, porche engines were powering their tanks and Hugo boss made their uniforms. Also, Volkswagen was created by Hitler and the nazi party. Volkswagen translates to "the people's car" or something like that. It's amazing how people cancel dead guys from other eras for things they said 50-75 years ago but hey buy your Chanel, Porsche, Hugo boss, and Volkswagen without concern. People are just bored with no purpose in life so they want to make everyone as miserable as they are. Just sad. Great react as always and one love from STL.

Bill is right about we can't judge Coco Chanel for what she had to do to survive. Look at the prisoners of the concentration camps back then, many of them were given jobs that led to the death of their own kind. Yet the only choice they had, was to do what they had to, just to stay alive. Many of us would do the same.
